o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 I was going to mention it after the 7th inning. I figure no-hitting the Astros for 6 isn't much of an accomplishment. way to jinx it. lol
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 That saves the Tigers from running his pitch count up too high anyhow. If he went 9, it probably would have been in the 130s or higher.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Darvish with 14Ks in 7 innings wow, and he threw 127 pitches Darvish is a beast.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Red Sox lose, Yankees lose, Blue Jays win. Good day
bzapple Verified Member Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Adrian Beltre walk off hit; Rangers sweep the Red Sox. Yankees lost too so we gained a game on both of them.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Jays now 9.5 games out of first. Cue the comeback.....
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Jays now 9.5 games out of first. Cue the comeback..... you can go crazy when they get more than 2 wins in a row. until then it's still not much to write home about.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Well it would take about a 5 game win streak for me to eve start thinking about whether or not the jays have turned a corner. I just think there's so many holes in the lineup right now. The bench stinks because it's made up of nothing but specialists in one skill, and the 1 skill they do have isn't anywhere near good enough to make up for their deficiencies, and you can say the same for a lot of the regulars.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Great walk-off win by Texas. If Pedroia was a little bit taller he might have caught that lol.

I agree for the most part, but I don't think a win streak is necessary. A strong stretch would be just as good. 10 out of 15 games, or something along those lines can really get things headed in the right direction.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I think they'll get hot soon... but that probably wont matter because they'll probably miss the playoffs by a few games because of the 10-21 stretch. I hope I'm wrong.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 On one hand, Boston in 2011 started off about as badly as us IIRC and got back into the swing of things. On the other hand, the Marlins started off as badly as us last year, went 21-8 in May, and still sucked.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I think that this team just isn't that good. - Our regular roster is pretty inarguably replacement-level (or maybe a bit above) at C, DH, and 2B. - We may be replacement-level at LF, as nobody really knows what to expect from a PED-less Melky. - We're replacement-level at SS until Reyes comes back. - Our best player is 32 and showing signs of decline. - Dickey is 38 and may never have a completely healthy back. - JJ has always been injury prone and his start this season isn't particularly surprising. This looks more like a 0.500 team suffering poor luck than a sleeping giant ready to make a charge at the playoffs. This makes sense, and I really wish it didn't.

All in all, agree for the most part, although I think we're more so an 85/86 win team. I think JPR built a better team once or twice.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 "-The back part I agree with but that "he's 38" argument doesn't really work with a knuckler." Its obviously too early to say he can't stay healthy anymore, but if he's going to suffer chronic back issues, we can toss away the knuckler ageing curve data. Like any other 38-year old, Dickey is/will start experiencing those aches and pains with a bit more frequency than he did in his physical prime. At that point his age is a factor even though ageing curves tell his his skill shouldn't yet be eroding. Didn't he pitch through a broken rib last year or something? Especially after reading his book, I have no issues with his durability or pain tolerance.

I hope I'm wrong. In terms of the division its going to be a tall task to say the least and probably unattainable at this point. If they can close the gap to 5 games over the next month, then everything changes. As for the playoffs, they are certainly not out of the wildcard race. If they get to .500 by the all star break, a small run could get them in. That being said, lets see how they do over the next few weeks. If they don't get closer to .500 then they are probably finished.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I knew something was off with the doc. Hopefully whatever it is, can be fixed and he can go back to being the pitcher he is.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I'm worried you're right. Although I'm still HOPING for major improvement from JJ, Dickey and Cabrera, it's quite possible 1 or 2 of them will just have terrible years. If so we are f'd unless someone else really steps up or an impact player is acquired. And even then it may be way too late.
