  1. I said above why basically but i just think control of relievers is drastically overrated.
  2. He was also sent down this season to triple A. The only relievers i have any interest in paying the type of payment it would take for ones with control is the absolutely uber uber elite. Otherwise just give me a rental. Relievers are not the type of player you want control of. Jax, i would do. He might start next year and he's has better stuff anyway.
  3. The one i don't want is bednar. Give me a rental instead.
  4. I kind of inherently don't trust pitching prospects (and i saw an article recently that said public prospect places are getting worse at ranking pitching and better at hitting) but volume is always good. We knew Parker wasn't going to be top 100 before the draft obviously but he seems like someone who could rise up quickly either if he surprises and can play short, or if he rakes. Him and Rojas could be guys who rise to 50FV or more for Parker. It seems like Roden is no longer a prospect. I would be very interested in his rating.
  5. Fangraphs has a new top 100 with 5 jays. Nimmala, Yesavage, Stephen, Tiedemann and Bloss all make is as 50FV. Our farm system is now dead centre.
  6. imo that's way too much for any reliever.
  7. Yea. Some guy went to prison for a long asa time to protect Ohtani...
  8. I believe this literally and not in an ironic way to be clear. Society would be way better off with organized crime handling gambling, just so there is SOME barrier to entry.
  9. I like roden. He's has had high exit velos before, doesn't strike out, can take a walk... i think there is a pretty decent chance he ends up with more career war than yesavage or nimmala. i can imagine a team out there getting him out to meet the ball earlier and he turns out to be a pretty good player. The corner outfield thing is a bummer though.
  10. That cabrera trade is based on Roden being almost as valuable as Nimmala on their list. So sub in Nimmala if you don't think roden is that valuable.
  11. Bo is my favourite player beyond kirk, and i love contact guys who can get to anything. It is truly a complete outlier skill. i also think its a bit underrated in modern baseball. However, its a skill that really degrades over time. So, if you are the front office, you need to really weigh a big free agent contract.
  12. I think a pitcher who could slot in our top three might be functionally unobtainable at the deadline. The pen though is eminently addressable. Assuming Sandlin and Garcia are expected back, i think you could try something like this before they come back. - Hoffman - Leverage Reliever - Rodriquez - Little - Fisher - middle reliever (opposite hand to leverage guy) - Nance - long reliever/6th starter type/manoah? Then option Bruhil, Sandlin when back, Fluharty. These are the triple A depth. DFA Green and DFA Nance if Garcia comes back or he blows up. The assets to trade... Jimenez, Clase, and Martinez are out of options next year. Kasevich is rule 5 eligible this year. As are Tieddeman and Rojas.
  13. What about something like clase, orelvis for jake bird? Too little? I'm finding it hard to guage what would be a good price.
  14. We need Schneider at least or go out and get a different rightie bat. Roden is the obvious one to trade i guess, although maybe loperfido would get more back?
  15. Yea that might work. honestly though, i think Preller is trying to use pitcher scarcity to get a controllable near star like Duran. If it came down to just getting a left fielder, he'll just trade for one with prospects.
  16. The padres don't want prospects. They seem to want a controllable outfielder. Obviously though, Varsho is worth more than Cease. Bader would be a good get, i agree.
  17. Yea the whole thing doesn't make much sense. Preller maybe trying to convert an expiring contract into control.
  18. He looks to be fine as of right now. And he's projected to be about a 4 WAR player over the rest of this season and next. Cease would have to come with a really good prospect to get him. That's the starting point at least. It would be a tough decision though. If we did do it, i'd suggest going and getting Bader as a rental replacement. Although at that point... san diego should just cut out the middle man and do that themselves .
  19. People were talking about trading varsho in the context of the padres wanting to trade cease for a centrefielder.
  20. There is an article out there but its paywalled... basically saw no statistically significant correlation between signing bonuses and performance on the international side. https://downonthefarm.substack.com/p/where-is-money-well-spent-on-amateur?utm_source=post-banner&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=posts-open-in-app&triedRedirect=true Its the opposite of the draft where there is a strong correlation. The evidence would probably say spread the money around.
  21. Its kind of frustrating because its such a unique environment pitching wise that there are probably some very innovative people who would have ideas on how to approach it as an organization.
  22. Hayes is the best 3rd baseman by a mile though this year metrically. They are projected to have similar WAR, and its 88 vs 63 WRC+. This year they have similar value and hayes more directly solves their main weakness.
  23. A 50fv hitting prospect isn't that far away from the difference in varsho and cease.
  24. Maybe it was that mcmahon is a leftie, or the price but kebryan hayes would have been a massive defensive upgrade, and they might have been able to help his hitting.
  25. And he played at coors. Edit.. um i guess that doesn't matter... park adjusted
