    I think you are right. The question was have the Blue Jays improved. The Jays improving can be a YES, but the team might very well not make a playoff spot. It is all relative to our division and the rest of the AL.

    You can look at historical data, trends, and know that if X type of player is getting X amount of dollars in 2022, the chances of the same X getting equal or less in three years is very low. Baseball salaries have not historically trended downward.

    If you look at this years market, it should tell you that historical data is out the window. It started with Diaz. It is a new market now and AA is smart enough to see the trends and know the value internally within the league for X catcher that can do A, B, C. The market has adjusted.

    The other thing this trade does, is keep Varsho away from the Yankees and Astros. I guarantee you there would have been some crying and pissed off people on this board if the Yankees especially got Varsho. Both the Yankees, Astros and others were after Varsho. There is also something the Yankees and Astros have in common…

    Or you could have a Kelenic, Adel, White, Kieboom, Royce, and I can go on and on of guys who’s value were sky high just before or as they were first playing in MLB. Now those #1 and highly rated prospects are not worth a s***..

    If you DH a catcher and one gets hurt, you lose the DH. Also if one catcher gets hurt as in IL, now you have some AAAA scrub getting a lot of ABs. In this scenario you have Varsho and still have a above average catching duo. We used Teo for an RP. Now we have a LHB, back up catcher that isn’t a black hole at the plate, doesn’t take up a roster spot and gives us excellent OF D and base running/SB threat.

    I don’t think we could have received much that moved the needle for Jansen unless they would have moved him. We can’t just keep waiting for more specs to maybe pan out and lose our window. It also goes to roster management. Now you can DH a catcher and not have to carry three catchers. I don’t think you could effectively get both Moreno and Kirk’s bat in the lineup daily so not ideal either.

    Remember 2015 at the trade deadline. We were something like 185 plus in runs scored vs runs against but a .500 team. Tulu, Price, Rivera the pen guys were all for run prevention. We didn’t have a run scoring problem. Once we shored up the run prevention, we ended up going on a run and won the Division. Also, a tight playoff game, against playoff teams #1 -# 3 SPs you want a dynamic offense that can score in different ways. Teo and LGR were the same thing and you could attack them from the pen the same way. Varsho and KK change it up and give us some other ways to score runs. Plus you are still getting 27 HRs and 16 SBs from Varsho with his trends going upwards..

    I have been one of the biggest critics of the pen. That is why I like the Swanson addition and the off season is not over yet. We went to the playoffs twice as a WC and got swept. The fact of the matter is that even with Teo and LGR we did not score more runs than the other teams. Therefore, run prevention is the formula to go to the next level. Divison champs and advance to WS. Swanson over Teo, Varsho over both Teo and LGR and Bassit over our 4 and 5 sps we started with last year and anything we used to fill in throughout the year.

    This off season is similar. I remember the whole thing vividly. Basically, we were a playoff team, division winner or near, multiple times the years prior. In the playoffs we got destroyed. I remember Ricky Henderson single handily finishing Ernie Witts career. My dad told me before he died repeatedly, the Blue Jays teams at the time didn’t have the chemistry to win a WS. On paper and when I would look at some newspaper positional comparisons, the Blue Jays looked just as good or better as other teams. However, the end of the year results did not reflect what was on paper. Gillick knew this: The Alomar and Carter trade was as much to change the chemistry as it was for talent. That and bringing in guys like Winfield, Jack Morris, Molitor, Henderson and Stuart. Plus they had Devo and Alomar up the middle - Run prevention. You guys know the results.

    Evoldi is a playoff stud who can actually transition to the pen well if needed. Would be a great #5, Or higher on some teams.

    I am in 10 leagues and I have him in 9 out of 10. Don’t you think I haven’t been trying to acquire him the in that one also.

    So for those worried about Varsho and offense. From a Fantasy standpoint, which is offense only. Catcher- Varsho is ranked #2 behind Reamulto in many rankings. If not #2, no lower than 5. CF- Top 15 OF top 20 or 30 depending on which ranking. Plus elite D and multi positional talent.

    Your right BTS. My info old. I hadn’t checked him out recently. This was prior to last year. His major concerns are in the form of contact hitting and plate discipline. As of right now, he has to make massive leaps to stay north of the Mendoza line, and likely will spend his entire career suffering a high number of strikeouts

    Jordan Walker has had huge K issues and is not proven. Varsho has only been getting better on the biggest stage on a crap team.

    Moreno has no power and is a surplus. Varsho elite D at CF, LHB with power that can also catch.
