  1. This, it was offered prior to the 2nd half of 2023.
  2. Not sure how old you are. I remember the early 90's and late 80's teams. We won the division/ made it to the playoffs back when no WC a s*** load. We got killed every time or had a tragic collapse up 3-1 in 85. Pat Gillick was not content. He knew he had to do something different to take that next step. There was also a chemistry and leadership issue that was apparent with the team. The McGriff/Fernandez trade, bringing in guys like Carter and the signing of guys like Dave Winfield and the next year Paul Molitor were to address that and take the next step. You CAN certainly set yourself up to do better in the playoffs as was shown by the roster construction of the 92 and 93 teams. I doubt the Blue Jays make the WC this year. I think Detroit will take the last spot That is not making forward progress,
  3. The factors are: The FO has not built a solid enough farm to go out and get a Soto, a Glasnow, or get one of the Red's surplus IF that would have fit the bill. Or to be aggressive and get Suarez at 3b, early because AZ looked at the market and said that was the best play. I am not sure what line of work you are in. I know I can't continue to give excuses and tell my boss's that I can't deliver results because I didn't set my self up for continued success after 7 years and I left myself with one option and it was not a good one. It is a results oriented business for the fans anyway. The "factors", are factors all other teams have to account for.
  4. 1. It's the whole point of this forum to discuss the baseball team. The good, the bad and the ugly. 2. There are different types of personalities in life and baseball fans: i. The very Canadian one is good try boys, we made it to the playoffs and we are better than 20 other teams. ii. The other one is more of a Yankee's fan base or Red Sox fan base, where the expectation is to win it all year in year out and anything less is not a successful season. We know you are i, but others on here are a ii. It seems you always try and stifle the ii and give credit to mediocrity. Some of us in life, business and baseball are not as accepting as you are for mediocrity. This off season and the current state of the team has multiple valid reasons for criticism and negativity. Your post sounds like the Communist Party of China trying to stifle dissent as to the great Blue jay FO.
  5. I know ST, but runners costing us on the base paths again. Our leader also..
  6. When is the last time you were in the San Francisco area? Dominated by Indians and Asians, just making a lot more money and driving Teslas.
  7. I believe you have the timeline wrong. The Jays contract extension offer that was publicized was not offered after the playoffs this year or when Chapman was a FA. The $100 million deal was supposedly floated sometime in spring/early summer of 2023 to prevent Chapman from going to FA.
  8. Look at the off topic forum right now. There should be zero debate which option we should take. Being that it is the weekend, maybe the board Admins have time to contact the overall site Admin?
  9. Really don’t understand why some of you had an expectation Chapman was coming back. It was pretty clear after the season and if any doubt, they signed IFK. This team is going to have a hard time getting a wild card.
  10. Wasn't on delay. Volgebach was still circling the bases.
  11. We need to do something different. The current system is not working. I have not logged into the board a day in the past week where there was not a current spam post and a sea of red in the users list.
  12. Scary scenario either way. Pivoting to White should be option E and is not going to get us anywhere. We have a tough stretch to start and won't be putting us in a good position to have a - 15% chance of our SP getting a win every 5th game.
  13. Most teams sell Spring Training tickets using dynamic pricing. So if it is Blue Jays vs the Pirates, you it would see the base level price for each section. If Blue Jays vs Yankees or Red Sox, the ticket prices will increase.
  14. Agree, I believe we need a proactive vice reactive solution for this issue. Infested yet again today.
  15. When can we get some bot filters or Admin approval for new accounts etc... This spam BS is getting overwhelming.. Same originator it appears. Thanks
  16. I didn't say that Ross said they offered an extension. I said he made his slip that Chapman wasn't coming back in the context that the FO knew what they had already offered or discussed.
  17. I agree with the above. Hence, I believe he realized he made a slip and back tracked. Atkins also said that in the context that they offered Chapman a $100M plus multi year deal and he rejected it, which would give the Jays a pretty good idea where their market vs Boras is /was already. The caveat as other have said is if Chapman accepts a pillow contract. Other than that, I don't think Chapman is back on a multi year deal, unless Team opt outs in year 2, which is the same essentially as a one year deal.
  18. I think KK was the outlier and not apples and apples to Chapman, and it was a case of Ross being too honest in error. I am not the only one who thought a deeper meaning to it. Blue Jays GM Atkins says three key players won’t be back Colton Pankiw | Oct 7 2023, 10:37 am Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports It was expected that several of the Toronto Blue Jays free agents wouldn’t be returning, but few thought we would have answers on their futures this quickly. In what was an already heavily criticized season-ending press conference this morning, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins seemingly admitted that Matt Chapman, Brandon Belt, and Kevin Kiermaier will not be returning for the 2024 season. “The bulk of our team [is] essentially returning,” Atkins said. “We’ll miss Matt Chapman and Brandon Belt and Kevin Kiermaier. We’ll see opportunities to work to fill those holes from within and externally. The bulk of our pitching returning, minus Hyun-Jin Ryu. Maybe a couple of others, Alek Manoah coming back into the fold, though Hyun-Jin Ryu could also be an alternative for us.” Atkins did later on clarify that the Jays are open to bringing back all three, but many are taking this as an accidental slip-up on what the plans are moving forward. Based on this press conference, it feels highly unlikely that any of the three will be back. The same could apply for Ryu, who Atkins also seemed to suggest would not return before backtracking seconds later. Chapman will likely command a salary too big to match for the Jays on the open market, while Belt has been honest about the fact he may choose to retire. As for Kiermaier, he recently expressed his desire to play on grass rather than artificial turf, which made his return seem less than likely. That said, none of the three ruled out a return, which makes today’s press conference all the more baffling. Tensions are quite high among Blue Jays fans after what was another disappointing playoff exit, and what was said today only seems to be adding to that. Safe to say, there will be a ton of pressure on everyone in the organization heading into the 2024 season.
  19. Ha, new name is Vanilla Brownie!
  20. I think it was the first press conference after the playoff loss. I think he said Chapman and Whit.. ICR. I took note because normally this FO was/is very, very calculating in every word they say, to the point of boring, especially Ross. Of course, it was shortly thereafter that Ross threw the manager under the bus... So.......
  21. It wasn't what he said about the budget. He literally said - Para phrasing, we are losing Chapman as in not coming back. Now the market could have changed and Atkin/Shapiro could change their minds. However, I am pretty sure that comment was because the Jay's FO knew what they offered Chapman, they had an idea what Boras would want and they didn't see great results from Chapman to even contemplate a larger offer.
  22. No. Atkins basically said it in the end of season press conference and by signing IKF.
  23. Damn Dodgers are smart. Take on Margot to get Glasgow, then flip him to the Twins. The signing of Teoscar makes so much more sense now.
