  1. Offer him 5/130 or 5/135 and see how he reacts. He's probably looking at around $20-$25 million in arb next season. Bump his salary up a little for his final arb year and offer a little incentive for him to forgo free agency. Donaldson seems to like the front office and Toronto. If you offer him something respectable, I think there's a chance that he signs like Estrada just did.
  2. Who would you realistically target? I'm curious to hear, because the FA class this season isn't that great. Unless you're referring to trades.
  3. What's everyone thoughts on somehow filling in Carlos Santana in our lineup? I know he's primarily a 1B, but he's been getting reps in the OF this season and I think he could play alright in a corner outfield spot. Switch hitter, high OBP guy. Very very dependable player who at worst will give you a 2-2.5 WAR season with the potential for a 3-4 WAR season like he's having now. Career OPS+ of 122 and OBP of .366. In fact, he's never been a below average hitter in his entire career. Shouldn't be terribly expensive in FA either, plus Shapiro/Atkins are extremely familiar with him from Cleveland.
  4. Jays interested in Alex Cobb. Link: https://jaysjournal.com/2017/09/16/blue-jays-alex-cobb-on-offseason-free-agent-radar/
  5. I agree. He's looked good in this short stint. I would be completely fine with paying him $5-$6 mil to be a 5th starter if it means we can spend more on a corner bat or someplace else.
  6. I wonder if this front office looks into any extensions this offseason. Locking up young players to team friendly contracts was Shapiro's MO in Cleveland. Stroman would be the only guy it would make sense to talk extension with, but he's making good money in arb and can definitely hold out until FA.
  7. Shi Davidi article on Otani: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-pick-scouting-otani-signing-unlikely/ It definitely seems like our level of interest is past due diligence. You don't send 10 or however many scouts to Japan unless you have legitimate interest. Apparently we have just over $1 million left in the bonus pool. Rangers have $3.5 million. Yankees have $3.25 million.
  8. Tepera and Leone has been pleasant surprises this season. Both of them have logged a lot of innings already though. I would consider using them less to end off the season just so that they have more time to rest up for next season .
  9. Spent $3.475 million of it on Eric Pardinho, Miguel Hiraldo, and 2 other IFA's. This is not counting the unreported amounts we spent on 12 other IFAs on top of that. So not much to work with unless we trade for bonus pool money. Also this little tidbit is interesting:
  10. Indians are a pretty likeable team. I didn't mind losing to them in the ALCS last season. They beat us pretty fair and square with good pitching. The KC ALCS on the other hand drove me crazy. They were getting bloop base hits and lucky like no tomorrow.
  11. Wow. 21 straight wins. Tie the modern era MLB record. Have a chance to break it tomorrow. Unbelievable.
  12. Top of the 9th. Indians lead 5-3. Cody Allen to close. Let's see if the Indians can tie the modern era major league record.
  13. Callis doing his predictions for who'll be the Top 10 prospects a year from now. Vlad #1, Bo #4 1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B, Blue Jays (No. 3) Inherited his father's offensive prowess and has more plate discipline, which could make him the next Miguel Cabrera. 4. Bo Bichette, SS/2B, Blue Jays (No. 25) Dante's son hit .362 in his first full season to become Minors' first teenaged batting champion in 54 years. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/254004168/looking-ahead-to-the-2018-top-10-prospects/?topicid=151437456
  14. Front office was looking at JD Martinez in the offseason too, and look at his season. At the end of the day, most everyone was ecstatic that we got Bautista back at a good price (me included), but I guess there was a reason the front office looked at Jose as a last resort. I'm still not sure they would've signed him had it not been for Edward Rogers.
  15. It probably is, but I'm still impressed by his approach at the plate. Doesn't swing at garbage and waits for a good pitch. Barrel's the ball well. Seems to be able to take a walk. We'll see how he does when the league catches up to him, but so far his AB's regardless of the result have impressed me.
  16. This Richard Urena kid is pretty good.
  17. Is there an argument to be made that this is the deepest the Jays farm has ever been? It seems we have a good enough prospect Catcher: Jansen, McGuire, Riley Adams, maybe Pentecost, Hagen Danner Pitchers: Borucki, Pannone, SRF, Harris, Pearson, Pardinho, Zeuch, Greene, Maese, Romano 1B: Tellez, Pentecost (?), Clemens, INF: Bichette, Vlad Jr., Warmoth, Urena, Samad Taylor, Gurriel Jr. OF: Teoscar Hernandez, Smith Jr, Alford, Gurriel Jr., Ramirez. Some will pan out, some will not. But definitely seems like we have decent depth behind most every position. BA had us ranked as the #9 farm in all of baseball midseason, and that was considered "near-elite" despite being top heavy. Between Bo and Vlad rising in the ranks, Alford continuing to hit well, and Astros trading away their depth for Verlander, I expect us to be a consensus Top 10 farm to begin next season.
  18. Keith Laws Prospect of the Year: Vlad Jr.
  19. Right after being one of the finalists of Minor League Player of the Year, Austin Hays is being called by the O's. I believe he'll be the first 2016 draftee to play in the majors.
  20. Finalists for 2017 Baseball-America Minor League PoTY: Both Vlad and Bo. What a time to be alive.
  21. Smoak's terrific season continues. #37. He could very well end up being the AL Home Run leader with how much Judge has cooled off.
  22. Astros are gonna get at least $10 million in cash from the Tigers too. Good deal. A pitcher of Verlanders calibre is easily worth ~$20 million a year. Gonna be weird seeing JV in a non-Tigers uniform though. He was so synonymous with that team.
  23. Connor Panas had 2 home runs tonight. He's been on fire lately.
  24. Verdugo being called up to the Dodgers. Mejia being called up to the Indians. Fun times for top prospects.
