Interviewed with the Rockies not too long ago for a R&D data engineer position. When I asked them how big their analytics department was, they told me it's about 5 people in total. That's never going to cut it in this day and age. I'm pretty sure even small market teams like the DBacks and Rays employ more in their analytics department. Not only that, they also wanted to severely underpay me offering me $50,000 when the average salary for that position in Denver is $120,000. Granted, I know it's sports and I was willing to sacrifice pay just to work in baseball, but those guys wanted me to work dirt cheap. I told them $75,000 is the lowest I'd go otherwise no dice. They told me I can take a hike and they have tons of other people who are interested.
I also asked about how involved ownership is with the team and the guy didn't really give me a straight answer. But just reading between the lines, it seemed like ownership is way too involved for their own good. Guy also seemed pretty overworked and tired when I talked to him. Seems like a mess in that front office.
