  1. Colorado interested in Justin Smoak. Flip him for a pitching prospect then sign Goldschmidt next year?
  2. Urena is probably just holding down Vlads 40-man spot. Gonna have to DFA someone to make room for him.
  3. So Vlad might not even be the youngest guy on the team next year.
  4. Still a very real possibility. Olney just tweeted this
  5. Lance Lynn to the Rangers 3 yrs $30M
  6. So after literally saying he wouldn't move off shortstop...
  7. I'm actually really surprised they just ate that $34M.
  8. I'd love to get Yusei Kikuchi. He has good upside, and we won't have to pay full market rate for him since he's unproven at the MLB level. But it's a risk we can afford to take since we're not expected to be competative next season. Only projected to get 6 years and $42M by TradeRumors.
  9. Just saw that Luis Valbuena and former major leaguer Jose Castillo died in a car accident in Venezuela. RIP.
  10. 4 years at $17M would be an overpay imo
  11. They've done this before with guys like Heyward and Matt Holliday.
  12. We would've gotten Flaherty over Weaver, which makes it even worse.
  13. Goldschmidt splits vs. NL Central: vs. Cubs: .353/.471/.699 vs. Brewers: .366/.478/.652 vs. Pirates: .270/.387/.479 vs. Reds: .272/.355/.519
  14. That's a pretty good return for 1 year of Goldschmidt.
  15. Huge get by the Cardinals.
  16. No worries on the criticism. Always welcome a nice discussion. I'm a little more optimistic on those names, but I agree in that not every one of them will pan out obviously. Even getting 1 mid rotation starter and 1-2 good bullpen arms will go a long way into filling holes on the major league roster. By upside I just meant they have more potential on paper than the Mike Hauschilds' and Nick Tepesch's that we end up signing to MiLB deals. They're unknown quantities and young, so maybe it's a little easier to get excited about them than 28 year old minor league veterans even though they may not pan out.
  17. When's the last time we had this much pitching depth in the upper minors? - Sean Reid-Foley - TJ Zeuch - Trent Thorton - Julian Merryweather - Thomas Pannone - David Paulino - Hector Perez - Jordan Romano (if he doesn't get Rule 5'd) Not to mention Pearson may move quickly if he shows promise. Tons of upside in those names.
  18. Patrick Corbin to the Nationals
  19. There is no world where you should be taking on salary to move a player like Jean Segura.
  20. We're dealing with a GM who took on Carlos Satanas $20M salary and almost near bust prospect JP Crawford for Jean Segura, who has averaged 4.3 WAR the last 3 seasons. And threw in a decent reliever in James Pazos to boot. Maybe that package doesn't get it done, but I bet there's a permutation of a deal where we can get Haniger by not giving up any elite prospects.
  21. Still think they hold on to Stroman (as they probably should) until the deadline. Just throwing around ideas.
  22. Seattle receives: Kendrys Morales ($12M) Kevin Pillar ($5.3M proj.) Anthony Alford Reese McGuire Toronto receives: Mitch Haniger Mike Leake ($11M) Dee Gordon ($14M) I'd rather take on Leake and Gordon if need be to lessen the prospect capital we have to give up for Haniger. Plus Leake fills a hole we have in the rotation.
  23. The Phillies might make an interesting trade partner for us. They clearly want to compete next season, but if they spend a lot on Harper and Machado, they'll need some cheap pitching. I wonder what they would give up for Stroman.
  24. Agreed. If you really want to give a starter $20M per year, I’d rather tack on an extra year and get Patrick Corbin. I’d also much rather have Happ back than Keuchel.
  25. Avisail Garcia non-tendered. I could see us picking him up. There was interest in him dating back to 2016.
