  1. Showalter served this one up to the Jays on a silver platter with the two scrub relievers he ran out there and they still couldn't get it done. How long before even Adam Jones is feeling sorry for them? Oh well, still a chance to pull this one out.
  2. Some decent work by the bullpen also. Biagini and Smith pretty good so far.
  3. Yoan Moncada was the #1 rated prospect by some prominent outfit (Baseball America?) at the end of last season. And he went with the fireballer Kopech in the Chris Sale trade. So maybe Moncada is the one he was thinking of. Or maybe Rizzo?
  4. Hope the other team boots the ball around enough that they can scratch out a run ? JK
  5. O's set up for an Earl Weaver special: single, BB and 3 run HR
  6. This picture seems to sum up the season so far:
  7. So the Jays are in good shape as long as they win 1 of the next 3 and can match that 2-10 start! But seriously, that 2011 Red Sox season must be the epitome of the ups and downs of a 162 game long haul. Jays pitching has been respectable - team ERA of 3.98 is currently 16th best in MLB, so yeah if they ever manage to get the offense going you never know where this may go.
  8. Famous rant by former Colts coach (was the first year I was living in Indy)
  9. Any suggestions!? I wonder if Jim Leyland would be willing to come out of retirement to take over this mess. Maybe if they let him smoke in the dugout........
  10. Looks like he is a LH hitting 1Bman and Jays already have a pretty good one at AAA. You're right - they are collectively to blame for the pathetic attempts at producing any offense. Seems only Morales and Donaldson have been consistently having good at bats. Now that Martin finally got a hit, hopefully he will get it going a bit. The way this team has been going, if they win 3 of the remaining 7 in this home stand against Os' and Red Sox, that will be a great achievement. I will be optimistic and hope they take 4 of those
  11. Yeah that seems like a likely near-term outcome. I guess they have at least as an interim replacement with Shelton already on the payroll.
  12. True but it isn't going to help Tulo any to have a black hole behind him in the batting order. Gibby needs to get his head out of his ass!
  13. My understanding is they can outright assign ANY player to the minors. It is just that he has to first clear waivers and also a player with the requisite MLB service time can refuse the assignment. BUT by doing so, that allows the team to cut him and not be liable for the remainder of his contract. The way Martin is looking right now, that would be a bonus for the Jays if he did refuse it. They could actually put that $20M a year to some good use.
  14. No reason this guy should be batting 6th in the order other than stubbornness by Gibby. He should be batting 8th or 9th, maybe in Buffalo until he learns how to hit again (I know, crazy - but desperate times......).
  15. Yes it's hard to remember which of these numbers are position adjusted. The 2016 Gold Glove recipient at 1B (Moreland) had a -3.4 Def rating.
  16. Yes, but my point was he is at least showing some life at the plate and as a player known to have confidence issues, it seems counterproductive to sit him out when he is not struggling. The weird thing is when you look at his ratings on fangraphs, his baserunning rating is not too bad considering how slow he runs. But then there is his negative defensive rating for every season he has played, which makes me wonder why he ever got a reputation as a good 1Bman Or was that just a Rogers propaganda message?
  17. Who am I. What the f*** is that supposed to be - your pathetic attempt at a passive aggressive putdown? Grow up ! I think that pic in the avatar tells a lot about who YOU are!
  18. If you are referring to me, then are you saying it is s*** to declare Morales must be in the lineup over Smoak? Or maybe you take offense to the suggestion that Donaldson is the only feared hitter in the Jays lineup? Sad but likely true the way they are going right now (maybe Morales would the other one). As far as the stated wRC+ results, I fully acknowledge these are in tiny sample sizes, but there is something to be said for momentum. As for Pillar, it is encouraging that he has 0 Ks so far but more encouraging that his O-swing% is down so far compared to his previous years. Hopefully he keeps it up. Still needs to show he can translate his attempt at improved plate discipline into working some BBs.
  19. Ironically, this lineup could be criticized for taking Smoak out of the lineup since he is actually off to a decent start with a wRC+ of 99 in 19 PA (versus Pearce with -14 ? wRC+ in 17 PA and Zeke with 57 wRC+ in 13 PA). I know tiny sample size, but for a guy with confidence issues, benching him when he is actually doing decent is not going to help. However, if it is between Smoak and Morales, you have to go with Morales. Probably better to just give Donaldson a few days off completely because DHing is still going to put strain on the bad leg when baserunning. Although it's scary to think he is probably the only hitter in the Jays lineup who the opposition fears right now.
  20. It sure can be misleading. When Tulo is batting all of .136 but with 6 RBI in 6 games, it's a reminder you need to look at the whole picture.
  21. So you're fine continuing without Osuna and giving the current mediocre bullpen 1 run leads to try to hold on to!? f***ER
  22. The BP, which had been a major concern going in, has lived up (down?) to expectations. They really need an effective Osuna back ASAP and a lot more help from their offense.
  23. They did rough up Tanaka, who is the one legit guy in the Yankees rotation.
  24. Rough outing. 2 BB, 2 H (including a 3 run homer) and 4 ER while recording zero outs. Ouch !!
  25. Not sure if seeing the first 2 games is an advantage or disadvantage in making this prediction (probably neither, small sample size and all:D). But yeah the offense still seems too similar to last season, so that is a concern. I will predict 87 wins.
