  1. So this is their FOURTH season with the Jays. If they do not know about Victoria Day holiday by now, then they are clueless.
  2. You would like to think so, but depends on Sanchez's finger boo-boo status and also who is worse between Jackson and Fierabend. Has anyone seen a recent status report on Borucki's situation?
  3. Yeah and with all the money that is already off the books and more coming off after this year (Martin and Morales), why not sign both these guys to extensions if you think you can be a playoff team in the next few seasons (which if they don't, we need new management). With the way this team is playing right now, I would be ready to clean house on the whole works of those 3 stooges. But I think in reality unloading Buntoyo and giving the two in the front office 1 more year (that would be year 5) would be the way to go. If they can't get anyone else, they could always bring Gibby back.
  4. Definitely starting to look that way. With that HR, his OPS is now upp to .766 and passed Smoak. If he had some just average luck on those hard hit liners, his bottom line would be pretty good right now. And he continues to hold his own at 3rd base, so looking really promising.
  5. Looks like nobody started a game thread yes, so why not start one and paste this info in there? ETA : nevermind - Omar has it covered
  6. It seems to me the weight is concentrated toward his butt, which would (according to your theory) promote a higher launch angle. But I am not buying into this idea; rather I think he is simply having trouble perceiving the ball and squaring it up with a strangely high rate of hitting it into the ground (swinging on top of the ball).
  7. It looked similar to the other hard grounders he has hit to me but found the hole between the 2nd and 1st basemen for a clean single. In his defense, it seemed he really went with the outside pitch to the opposite field, so that is a good sign. I am not sure what you mean when you refer to 'choppers'. To me that means a player is swinging on a downward plane (like chopping wood). But in watching Guerrero, it seems he is swinging properly but keeps getting on top of the ball. So his swing mechanics are OK, but he is just not squaring the ball up. Clearly something is off with him, but it has happened to the best of them, so there is every reason to be hopeful he will get on track.
  8. I still say they should have cut off the end of his middle finger and he would have maybe become the 2nd coming of Mordecai Brown
  9. 7 ip , 3 runs against a good offensive team still pretty good
  10. But I thought he was so good he doesn't miss those pitches regardless of the count. Clearly he is not confident right now. Hopefully it will come.
  11. Sportsnet had an article on Trout the other day. After dominating in the double-A Texas League, posting a .950 OPS in 75 games, he was brought up July 8th in 2011 at age 19 and went .163/.213/.279 in 14 games. He went back to AA and was only there for 16 games, picking up where he left off by batting .333/.408/.587. He was back in the majors Aug. 19, performing at a far more respectable .250/.318/.450 clip over the final 26 games. At the start of 2012 Trout spent three weeks at triple-A Salt before rejoining the Angels on April 28. He hasn’t looked back since.
  12. Grichuk is the least of our problems, but Teoscar and Mckinney is a bigger question
  13. Too much hype around this guy. All the talk of building a contending team around him is BS and so unfair to him. He feels like he has the weight of the CN tower on his shoulders right now.
  14. I agree a starting pitcher needs more than 2 effective pitches. According to Fangraphs, Thornton pitch mix over his first 4 outings were: FB 48.2 %; SL 15.8 %; CB 25.2 %, and CH 10.9 %. So at least he is working on a full pitch assortment. The scouting report summary on Fangraphs has the FB rated 60, CB rated 55 and SL rated 55, so looks like potential to make it as a starter. But he is turning 26 this September, so now is the time to make it.
  15. Seems unlikely he would sign for this 'apparently team friendly' 5/60 extension with Boras as agent. I would not offer him that right now. The finger problems have seemed to derail his development into a pitcher (still more of a thrower). Good news is they are saying he should be ready to go for his next turn in the rotation (couple off days this week will help).
  16. I saw it described as knee injury - hopefully just a mild sprain. Speaking of knees, anyone seen anything recent about status of Clayton Richard?
  17. Well looks like a 3 tool player at the moment (hitting, power, throwing). If he can overcome the baserunning gaffes, he should be at least neutral there (decent speed). There's still hope
  18. Yeah but I would take Floyd over Pat Tabler 1000 percent. So nice to have Shulman on the broadcast. Rogers really needs to convince him to go full time in this gig (and pay appropriately).
  19. Was it Gordon where Giles threw the slider up in the zone early in the count? I think that was not a 'mistake' but by design, because it is not as expected (just as Estrada throws the odd changeup high in the zone). Anyway, seems just 'save' Giles for save situations and all will be good (if only it was that simple )
  20. I guess it was a bit of a pressure situation (trying to avoid being swept at home by a mediocre team). Giles is now a perfect 13 for 13 in save opportunities this season. But here is the bizarre part: 12.2 ip combined in those 13 saves and ZERO runs allowed. In 22.2 ip this season in non-save situations he has given up 24 earned runs.
  21. I hope you are right but we will have to wait and see. The organization definitely should have stood against the SJW crowd and kept Osuna!
  22. Elite arm but garbage mindset (Daniel Bard 2.0). So is Giles (making $4.6 million this season) a non-tender candidate for 2019 ?!
  23. Yep all about what have you done for me lately (in absence of drama).
  24. Here is a link to a list of NFL players who played through injury. Probably Jack Youngblood in '79 is the most famous example https://bleacherreport.com/articles/732107-the-10-gutsiest-performances-in-nfl-history#slide4
