  1. With a few of the mid tier bats the offense could probably be more in the vein of average vs one of the league's worst but that's probably about the best that would have happened barring a Soto or Ohtani type of acquisition. The pitching has been so poor as a whole that nothing other than a 1993 Blue Jays stacked line up would have given this team much of a shot for competition.
  2. I was willing to keep an open mind and wait and see what unfolded before making judgment, but it's hard to view Mattingly's time as offensive coordinator as anything but an abject failure. There is definitely something very wrong with the offensive preparation for this team given how this is a second consecutive year of seeing so many players post career worst seasons at the same time and it's high time for a progressive outside voice to be brought aboard. Guys like Vlad, Bo, Kirk and even Springer shouldn't be producing as poor of results at the plate as we've seen the last few seasons and it's of utmost importance that the right people be brought into the organization to get the best out of these players if the team is to even have a puncher's chance at any type of competing next season.
  3. It appears as though Barger has calmed down the chase tendencies in his second stint with the big league club. In his first trip to the majors he swung at 48% of pitches out of the strike zone, and in his return trip he's improved this to a much better 30% chase rate.
  4. It's not remotely true that there were no changes made to the coaching staff as there were a lot of changes made particularly on the offensive side. Mattingly was elevated to offensive coordinator, Hudgens was demoted, and Hague was promoted from AAA to the major league coaching staff. Further additions were Hale as bench associate manager and Febles as infield coach/third base coach. The results on the offensive side of the ledger haven't been there but it's not like they just ran back the same staff from the year prior.
  5. Yeah there are just too many issues with this team to realistically expect much of a run out of them. The bullpen is in shambles due to injury and underperformance, the rotation has been shaky as of late, and it seems that the offensive lineup always features half of it's members simultaneously in the midst of a deep slump.
  6. Yeah his type of high octane arsenal isn't exactly conducive to long term arm health.
  7. You misunderstood what I meant, I simply meant the team should admit the season is likely lost and sell off the impending free agents at the trade deadline, not that they should blow things up and enter full on tank mode. There is still an opportunity to retool for 2025 and if the team can attain some MLB ready pieces that's a good start for next season.
  8. The 2023 team was still a good team. This year's team is bad at basically everything aside from fielding a lot of good defenders.
  9. Do you have some kind of list available? I don't recall there being a ton of failed tests for either regime.
  10. Schneider is probably low key relieved he doesn't have to come up with excuses for why he continues to play Springer and KK every day instead of a younger player.
  11. That's probably the reason Orelvis was taking this substance in the first place. If you are going to be popped for PED's and were knowingly cheating you would just take steroids or something more powerful than a SERM.
  12. Ultimately having the team go in the tank they way they have can be a blessing in disguise vs hanging around the .500 mark approaching the deadline. Barring a completely miraculous extended winning streak this team appears to be done like dinner.
  13. We don't really have recent history to go off of in terms of trading veterans for prospects so who knows what to expect in terms of return. The team has been a buyer at the deadline for the last 4 years so it's been a long time since veterans were moved out in trade for prospect types.
  14. Depends on the potential return. If Bo is valued as a buy low asset by other GM's who want to poach him for pennies on the dollar you have to hang onto the guy, but if someone wants to pay the requisite price for a consistent 4-5 win player you have to consider it.
  15. Do you somehow think that the likes of Horwitz, Barger and Orelvis were added to the roster to improve the defense?
  16. I believe the preferred terminology in the wrestling business is enhancement talent.
  17. Would that allow Vlad to impart more backspin on his batted balls? I think the primary issue is likely swing path related with hitting on the top of the baseball a tad too much.
  18. I believe Jansen and Orelvis were available on the bench aside from Springer.
  19. I made the mistake of looking up Springer's splits. He's bad vs RHP at 83 wRC+ yet absolutely abysmal vs LHP this season at 37 wRC+. And he's ice cold in June with a 31 wRC+ and Barger has had a lot of good quality AB's since his callup. So of course it stands to reason that Schneider instantly inserts Springer to pinch hit against a lefty when Barger actually has reverse splits in AAA. FFS.
  20. This game perfectly encapsulates the 2024 Blue Jays experience. Lack of offense and shaky relief pitching unable to hold a late lead.
  21. Turner might not be a total writeoff as he had a tremendous month of April and appears to have righted the ship in June as well. He had a legitimately awful 3 weeks where he looked like his career was over so hopefully he can avoid these types of deep slumps over the rest of the season.
  22. It's totally Blue Jays that Springer finally managed to find a way to stay healthy at the same time that he lost the ability to make a difference at the plate.
  23. Obviously a lot of this has been forced upon the front office by the underperformance of the offense as a whole, but part of the boring offseason with no long term obligations was likely due to the desire to present opportunities to the upper levels prospects if they showed they were worthy of these opportunities. All of Barger, Horwitz and Orelvis have earned their shots at MLB playing time by excelling in Buffalo just as Scheider earned his promotion with an excellent 2023 season in the minors.
  24. It sure sounds like it at times though. You just keep on repeating how guys like Teo and JDM wouldn't have completely fixed the offense and carrying on like it wasn't worth bothering to add them for this reason.
  25. I don't think it should have been a choice between Biggio and Schneider as Biggio earned his post season spot by being one of the few guys on the team who actually produced some offense in the month of September. It was a choice between Schneider and Merrifield as these guys who were both right handed hitters largely manning the same two positions. Merrifield was literally one of MLB's worst qualified hitters over the last two months of the season and yet the team still left Schneider off of the post season roster.
