  1. Yeah it's obvious nothing is going to happen quickly given how long it took to even move Springer out of the leadoff spot this season. Even 3 months as MLB's worst qualified hitter is enough to see his playing time cut or even moved towards the bottom of the order.
  2. Yeah the obvious answer at this point is that nobody thinks Atkins should be kept around.
  3. Simmons is nothing more than an outrage peddler that panders to the lowest common denominator and really isn't worth giving any attention to.
  4. Chapman is actually a very good comparison for Varsho when you think about it. Both of them are essentially about 4 win players who primarily derive their value from elite defense combined with approximately league average or slightly above bats.
  5. It's just hard to envision any path towards contention in 2025 if that many players are moved out as it opens up so many holes on the roster. The team would have no starting catcher, no leverage relievers and several holes in the starting rotation. That's why I don't see any reason to not move out Gausman and Bassitt as well as at that point you might as well go full rebuild vs attempting some sort of retool/soft reset.
  6. Batting average isn't useful on it's own, even you should able to recognize that as a fact. I don't see anyone comparing Bryce Harper, who has produced elite offensive seasons to Daulton Varsho anywhere in this conversation so I fail to see how he is remotely relevant to a discussion involving dudes like Gabriel Moreno, Daulton Varsho and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Pay attention to the actual topic of conversation and try to follow along.
  7. If all of these trades occurred I don't know if there would be much of a point to hanging onto either of Gausman and Bassitt at that point as the team would almost certainly be awful for several seasons. There would be far too many holes on the roster for any shot at contention in the immediate future and as such there would be little reason not to do a more complete tear down, Vlad extension aside.
  8. You might not be aware of this but baseball is a team sport, and neither of Gurriel or Moreno were anything more than league average bats in the playoffs as a whole and weren't anywhere close to the strongest contributors on their club. If you want to essentially ignore the regular season when evaluating a long term trade and use a handful of games where Moreno and Gurriel contributed in the post season before going ice cold at the plate knock your socks off. I'm not defending Shatkins, I'm defending a good trade in which both teams will most likely ultimately be happy with what they received. Unlike the mass of mouth breathers who instantly declared the Varsho trade as "worst trade in history" and other assorted nonsense as soon as Gurriel hit his once or twice a year hot streak before going into the tank the rest of the way I'm capable of waiting long enough to gather the necessary data before passing judgement.
  9. That post is so dumb it's account delete worthy.
  10. Wow evaluating a long term trade by using batting average, how very astute of you. You might not have realized this but Gurriel was a league average (at best) corner outfielder whose best ever season of 2 wins above replacement saw him match Varsho's worst ever season. Moreno still hasn't shown he can hit major league pitching with any kind of power outside of a few very short spurts which is likely why he was available for trade in the first place.
  11. I think you should understand perfectly well by now that it wouldn't have mattered all that much with how poor the pitching has been as a whole.
  12. Surrounded by two other elite talents in Judge and Soto would likely allow Vlad to unlock his full potential and would be an absolute nightmare scenario. The short porch in right field would allow him to shoot a bunch of home runs to right field as well.
  13. I sometimes wonder if Vlad didn't swing quite as hard if it would help him find the sweet spot with more frequency.
  14. Mullins has been s*** so I have no idea why you would compare him to Vlad aside from your obvious hatred of the guy. Vlad has been settling into more of a Yelich type of offensive output this season. He's been hitting the tar out of the ball over recent months and has 5 home runs in June so hopefully it's a sign of things to come and not a short home run spurt.
  15. Green looks bad when you look at FIP in isolation. Look at ERA and xERA and he suddenly looks much better as the only runs he's allowed all season are a handful of solo home runs. Would Teo have been willing to sign a cheap team friendly extension? I guess that's something we will likely never know.
  16. What does your source have to say about the overall direction of the club? Is a retool coming? Full on rebuild? Is anyone's job safe at this point?
  17. Do you have some sort of inside information? Your posts certainly imply that to be the case, just wondering if you have an actual inside scoop or if this is largely conjecture.
  18. There are typically very few moves made at this point of the season so it's sort of impossible to know if Atkins has been held back at this point.
  19. Yeah the Jays AAA hitters in Buffalo have really mashed this season but it's impossible to know how much credence to give to the numbers. At the very least the guys getting called up have shown pretty good plate discipline for the most part as the swing decisions have largely been pretty good.
  20. Which one though? I for one don't know who is primarily to blame for the offensive ineptitude and multitude of underperforming hitters. Do you can the whole works of them? Just keep the promoted AAA coaches as the Buffalo guys are largely the only guys performing to their talent levels? Do you fire the advanced scouting crew, or the nerd department? Is Mattingly going to be scapegoated for the offensive woes and everyone else gets a free pass?
  21. I almost never watch games live so I very rarely post in game threads as they happen. It's pretty hard to defend the performance of the club this season aside from a few bright spots, and in this game in particular the lineup composition to allow more offense really bit the club in the ass.
  22. I infinitely would have rather just left Pearson in to face Devers as the worst he could have done was brought the Red Sox within 1, and Pearson vs ONeill is a far better matchup than having Mayza who gets absolutely lit up by right handed bats.
  23. I believe that AAA will be switching exclusively to the challenge system at some point which will hopefully make it a little easier to determine which prospects are legitimate performers moving forward. They'll have to largely deal with s***** human umpires like in MLB.
  24. Thornton legitimately looks like a good reliever now but Cimber appears to be cooked.
  25. This season was the first time in the Shapkins era I wasn't really worried about the state of the pen headed into the season as for once it felt like there was a solid core of relievers at the major league level and depth working it's way up through the minor leagues. It's pretty crazy how the pen turned from a likely strength to complete s***. I for one wouldn't have guessed that all of Romano, Swanson and Mayza would have suffered from injury and/or dramatic loss of stuff while seeing their results completely go in the shitter seemingly overnight. There are a few bright spots such as Pearson slowly beginning to realize his potential and Garcia turning into a late inning weapon but aside from that it's been massively disappointing.
