  1. I like Hortwitz just fine as a platoon DH who can spend some time at 1B/2B as needed. That allows the team to allocate the limited financial resources as needed to fill out the roster with DH largely filled. Having said that I'd have no issues with trading him as Wagner might end up as a pretty similar type of player.
  2. Rodriguez has generally been solid as well. It seems as though the team may have a decent back of the rotation in place for next season, but the safest course of action would be to bring in another mid rotation or better starter to push those guys into depth roles.
  3. That loss came with a serving of bad decisions by the manager (leaving Tapia in the game and allowing Mayza to face Santana) and a serving of downright bad luck as the Mariner's largely babip'd there way to an improbable victory with the Springer/Bo collision being the icing on the cake.
  4. I blame the manager who utilized Tapia when he had Jackie Bradley Jr. available off of the bench.
  5. That's a true pick your poison scenario. Do you face the .472 xwOBA dude or the .477 xwOBA guy hitting behind him? I'm really surprised Judge hasn't been intentionally walked more than he has up to this point given how relatively weak the rest of the lineup is by comparison.
  6. Soto certainly picked a good time to experience a breakout season. He produced at similar levels in the shortened 2020 season but never showed this type of prolonged production in any previous seasons.
  7. Yay sarcasm. I don't recall Blue Jays structuring deals with significant deferrals in the past so this would be out of the norm. We have no way to know if Vlad would be willing to do this either. Ohtani was an edge case given the insane amount of marketing money he pulls in already so deferring huge chunks of present payment was a far easier pill to swallow.
  8. I have a really hard time envisioning the Yankees not being willing to pay whatever it takes to keep Soto long term. He's performed up to his full capability under the bright lights of New York and instantly transformed that team into a contender.
  9. This would be contingent on both Vlad and the team being willing to defer money in this fashion.
  10. It's very hard to see the team being able to sign Soto and run anything other than a scrubs and stars sort of lineup without going well over the luxury tax limit.
  11. If he continues mashing to the end of the season it's increasingly possible the Blue Jays will be the team giving Vlad $300 million.
  12. He would definitely to make some serious improvements though. At this point he's currently sporting a -6% success rate added by outs above average, which is exactly the same as the disastrous level he provided over his time at the position in 2019.
  13. The team dramatically altered their overall MLB team strategy in the 2022 offseason. It immediately led to the offensively challenged squad of the last two seasons. Much of this was due to unexpected performances of the holdover players vs those that were brought into the organization, but I don't think Atkins should be the person receiving all of the blame for the overall course the organization took while the VP in charge of overall strategy gets a complete pass and even a promotion.
  14. I legitimately think Vlad could provide at least Devers level of below average defense at third base with enough reps.
  15. Wasn't this the same guy that recently suggested there was zero chance Vlad was going to earn over $300 million?
  16. If I recall correctly Click is directly in charge of overall team strategy. The offense has became a weakness in recent seasons as the decision to become more balanced largely backfired, the minor league system has taken a large step back, and the organization finds itself at a major crossroads regarding it's short term and long term future. I don't really see a lot to suggest that Click has been particularly effective in his role based on how little we know about his actual duties. This feels similar to those who suggested that Mattingly should become manager after firing Schneider as Mattingly has not been particularly successful in his role as offensive coordinator. I don't see much of anything to suggest that Click actually deserves to be elevated to a new role vs becoming one potential candidate if the team decides to relieve Atkins of his duties.
  17. Another way to compare these guys would be to post their career averages up the age where Vlad sits at present. Freeman produced an average 131 wRC+ by the end of his age 25 season in 2015, vs the 136 wRC+ that Vlad finds himself at presently for his career. Freeman has generally been a much more effective defender and baserunner than Vlad but Vlad has a very realistic chance to eventually surpass the type of offensive output that Freeman has produced as Vlad has seemingly just hit his peak.
  18. This is just all full of assumptions. If the team is to hire a new GM I'd infinitely have them do an extensive search of MLB as a whole instead of just handing the reins to Click simply because he was a part of successful organizations.
  19. If Click is some sort of pitching development savant as you are suggesting why wouldn't his knowledge immediately be implemented by the organization? This literally makes no sense whatsoever.
  20. It's impossible for anyone outside of the organization to know if Click is part of the disease instead of some type of supposed cure. If he had all of the answers for the Blue Jays pitching development woes I would surmise that these would already be implemented by this point given how long he's been with the club. I actually think there are potentially enough higher ceiling arms in the minor league system at present to allow the team to eventually improve upon their pitching development. The key will be getting these guys healthy enough to continue their development and eventually have a shot to contribute to the major league team. The recent draft and trade deadline have Yesavage and Bloss as potential replacements in the short term to add to Macko, and the lower minors has players such as Barriera, Rojas, Maroudis etc. as potential longer term options if these guys can manage to get back to full health and remain on the field.
  21. The Blue Jays have produced a total of 484 weighted runs created. Vlad alone has accounted for 96 of these runs or 19.8% of the total. That percentage has been climbing as Vlad's bat has heated up. Vlad turned his season around near the end of April. From April 28 to current Vlad produced 83 of the team's 375 runs (22%). Vlad started launching home runs with regularity in early June. From June 3 to present Vlad has produced 57 of the club's 244 runs (23%).
  22. Better late than never.
  23. If he hits his ROS projections he'll end up right around 2 FWAR for the season. I think he'd be really hard pressed to even come anywhere close to matching the type of deal he's already signed to.
  24. I think Bellinger is unlikely to opt out as he really hasn't been able to recreate his 2023 level of success.
  25. Time to hand out the dreaded catcher of the future moniker?
