  1. This is a lot more nuanced take than basing bust status on a couple of weeks worth of plate appearances for a first year pro.
  2. I kind of hope you are joking as this is needlessly alarmist. Cook is a converted pitcher who only received 284 PA in a single season hitting in the NCAA. Despite the lack of experience with the bat he posted some impressive numbers including a 6.7% strikeout rate. He was more of a slap hitter at that point but despite the fact he just started hitting full time that season he displayed very impressive bat to ball skills on the way to a .905 OPS/131 wRC+. He's a bit of a project but I fully support the effort underway to unlock a little extra base power from his swing. This isn't a player who needs to be "fixed" as he's an elite athlete who can likely slap hit his way to something like an 80 wRC+ bat but there's a lot more potential if the club can unlock more juice. He has all of 52 PA as a professional and it's downright absurd to be musing over whether he's already a bust at this point.
  3. I'm not terribly worried about Cook as he's just getting his feet wet as a first year professional and missed the first month of the season due to injury. I recall the goal with Cook was to unlock some impact with the bat and as such there are bound to be some growing pains as he adjusts to a retooled swing.
  4. I certainly hope so as the rotation desperately needs another arm.
  5. Are you experiencing a psychotic episode? This is just a baseball forum and there's no need to make disagreements so damn personal to this degree. You've always received nearly infinite rope to be a downright beligerant a@@hole at times but even you are eventually going to run out chances.
  6. The reports of his progress have generally been positive in nature, but one thing I haven't heard is how the velocity and stuff have been looking so far. He's one of MLB's nastier relievers with a deep arsenal when the arm is fully healthy but it would be ultra disappointing if he comes back as a shadow of his former self post surgery.
  7. I think you'd be better served to use .wOBA and xwOBA in your search vs .BA alone to outline the results.
  8. I think Miles is closer to Lauer as a long man type.
  9. His fastball is easily his worst pitch so I fully support this move.
  10. I think as soon as one of Nance or Mantiply is ready to return Yariel will immediately be DFA'd at that point.
  11. He's also the worst hitter in MLB when you sort by minimum of 70 PA. It's impossible to overstate how bad he's been with the bat this season and at this age it's entirely possible he's finished as a major league hitter.
  12. I think it would be really easy to make a Kirk/Valenzuela tandem work, at least in the first few weeks after Kirk returns. I think the club is going to carefully monitor Kirk's playing time in the beginning and for the first while they could run more of a 1A/1B tandem like back when Jansen was still around. I think Valenzuela has been showing glimpses of being an impact level of player given how elite the overall defensive package is behind the plate, and keeping Heineman in place of Valenzuela would be a massive downgrade to the club even with Kirk's return.
  13. I think it's some of both. Vlad's mechanics look off at the plate and he is swinging at pitches he shouldn't be right now but it looks pretty clear that he's dealing with an underlying issue as well that's affecting his swing.
  14. I think Vlad is dealing with a hand or wrist issue presently. In recent games his top hand is flying off of the bat on his follow through and I wouldn't be surprised if the chronic wrist issue is causing him grief presently.
  15. I'd guess it won't be much longer before he finds himself in AA.
  16. Neither of those guys would have helped the Blue Jays in the 2021-2025 seasons in which Berrios provided 8 wins above replacement. He was an important member of the rotation for most of his time as a Blue Jay and neither of Martin or SWR would have been very important parts of that window of contention.
  17. I don't think that's how the Santander situation really played out. Here's what Santander had to say regarding the injury. https://www.mlb.com/news/anthony-santander-talks-shoulder-injury-2026-timeline
  18. It's surprising how his season has unfolded as he's transitioned well enough to third base but hasn't been producing at all with the bat.
  19. Yeah I could see that argument for historical purposes. Wins are slowly becoming irrelevant in terms of hall of fame voting and will become less and less important over time so we shall see how the statistic eventually evolves to reflect the changing landscape.
  20. I'm at the point where I would completely eliminate the concept of pitcher wins as there's far too much that's completely out of the pitcher's control. Great pitchers on bad teams often don't accumulate many wins due to factors such as lack of run support/bad defense etc., and crappy pitchers on good teams can pile up wins by simply pitching 5 innings at a time despite pitching very poorly. Using a win as a barometer of literally anything other than a team victory is something that should be let out to pasture.
  21. I think it's imperative the Popkins and co. assist the existing players in unlocking some power. Too damn much of the lineup has been slumping at the same time for essentially the entire season and until this starts to reverse this team will continue to struggle consistently scoring runs.
  22. I think it's a combination of factors with Yariel. I don't believe he has starter level of command and his stuff was regressing very badly in the second half of last season in a shorter burst role and I suspect this would have been more severe if he were starting.
  23. I think this is a new candidate for the board's worst poster of all time award. I don't think S_B_C was nearly as toxic and was more of an ordinary level of bad poster.
