    Guerra has been making noise and appears to have taken a large step forward. Bloss was showing improved stuff but the results were rough in his rehab stint before the apparent shoulder injury. Barriera has had a bit of a rough road but he's coming off of elbow reconstruction and has suffered from further injury issues. At least he's back pitching again and hopefully can build a bit of momentum. The only real disappointment in my eyes who has been fully healthy has been Stanifer as he's appeared to have suffered from command issues and may be destined for the bullpen.

    I think the club has been making strides in pitching development in recent seasons as there has actually been a crop of legitimate pitching prospects working through the system. There was the rash of injuries a few years back that pushed the development back a lot but more and more of these guys are returning and starting to make progress again. I still tend to think it's scapegoating to blame the major league pitching coach for what's happening in the minor leagues as he wouldn't be directly involved in developing these players to any degree.

    Gurriel produced a 2.0 FWAR season in 2023 with a 105 wRC+. He was a league average outfielder but was hardly great.

    Varsho's defensive decline this season is due to decreased foot speed leading to a loss of range. He was still elite in center field last season despite the popgun arm as he was producing elite jumps off of the bat. The arm has actually recovered approximately 5 MPH of the total 10 MPH of missing velocity and as such his arm value is less negative than the 2025 season.

    It would certainly be nice if the offense could provide a few more runs so that Varland could have a little more rest. He's looked far more human in recent games/weeks and this is likely due to the excessive workload he's been shouldering.

    I don't think Walker is responsible for minor league pitching development in any real capacity.

    I think the trade would have been pretty damn even WAR wise had the Blue Jays simply played Varsho in center field full time in 2023/2024. I agree it's too bad we didn't get a full season out of him in 2025 as he was a legitimate power threat, and on top of that the shoulder injury sapped him of arm strength as well which also detracted from the outfield value.

    This was anything but a simple play. The broadcasters had never witnessed a play like this one and it was apparent that the umpires didn't have an easy answer to this play either.

    I find it to be hilarious that a good portion of the fanbase seems to believe that the 2026 Blue Jays are somehow better without Jeff Hoffman. With him in the pen I think the team likely would have enjoyed the strongest bullpen it's had at any point during the Shapiro/Atkins regime but I do understand why the front office jumped at the chance to add a talent like Hill as he very well may have the highest ceiling of any pitcher in the Blue Jays minor league system if they can help him iron out the command. The dude is a beanpole as he's listed at 6'5" and only 165 pounds and he's a prime candidate to add some much needed beef at the PDC over the offseason.

    I haven't heard anything since the setback either when it was reported he was feeling pain when swinging the bat.

    I'm guessing you mean that Smith won a silver slugger award? I like this trade as well as an upside play as he's been a solid performer in prior seasons.

    Exactly the same thing was happening in reverse when the usual crowd of suspects were losing their collective minds after a single tough game.

    Not really. I think the manager would infinitely prefer that he have 5 healthy starters going deeper into games so the relievers don't need to make so many appearances/cover so many innings.

    His stuff has ticked up after Tommy John surgery and that's a big part of the improved results.

    I don't think the 2016 grades are relevant as he debuted in 2019. The 2019 Fangraphs report gave him a 40 present/future hit tool grade which is fair considering how he developed over time. Surprisingly Fangraphs gives Bateman a 35 hit tool grade presently with a future 55 rating. What was the source for the grades you were looking up?

    Aside from the plate discipline I don't think they share much in common. I'd wager Bateman has a better hit tool with Biggio having more power. Defensively they are worlds apart and that's also the case in the speed game.

    Yeah me too. I think the defense is likely plus so I'm most curious to see how the bat translates to the major leagues.

    I think this is likely due to people being exonerated not receiving the same type of coverage as when they are initially accused.

    Bo's short stop numbers this season are largely in line with what he produced in 2022. His end of season defensive adjustment that season was 0.8 which is very poor for a full time short stop. I think he's likely declined physically to the point where he simply doesn't possess the necessary athleticism to have the necessary range to successfully play short stop anymore.

    I won't be seeing it again as I enabled my ad blocker. I was willing to disable the ad blocker in an act of good faith when it was requested but I need to protect myself from ads that are potentially dangerous.

    I don't think you can discount the massive swing in Bo's defensive value from last season at short stop to this season at third base. He was -5.9 at short stop last season as compared to 4.4 at present at third base in only 2/3 of a full season. He's on track for the most valuable defensive season of his career at this point and there's a dramatic difference from last season to this season.

    Hello, I received a fake Mcafee popup virus ad on the site today on desktop Firefox. I had turned off my ad blocker at the request of the new owner but this type of ad is really pushing the limits of what I'll accept.

    If he manages to avoid the injury bug the rest of the way out it feels like we might actually see him at the big league level relatively soon. Another guy down in Buffalo that might earn himself a look is Daz Cameron who has mashed to the tune of a 189 wRC+.

    I think Detmers is likely more of a finished product with better present stuff and command but Soriano possesses more untapped upside.
