    It's interesting that the Fangraphs writeup is so lukewarm on Bateman's defensive game. He hasn't been faced with many tough plays yet but to my eyes the breaks look very good and he possesses elite physical tools in the outfield as well. The early Statcast break and jump results are highly positive with only the route component dragging him down a bit. I had a quick look to compare his jump and break results to other elite center fielders and Bateman rates very positively in comparison. He is producing massive jumps in the early going of his career with 4.3 feet above average/39.1 feet covered. For comparison's sake MLB's best outfield defender PCA has been producing jumps 4.8 feet vs average/39.5 feet covered so Bateman isn't far behind.

    I think there could be a little bit of a silver lining that this could allow Vlad to heal up some aches and pains. I just hope it's not a severe concussion and takes him out longer term.

    I don't know exactly what thread that particular post is contained within to quote it directly but there was zero room for any type of interpretation.

    I've been following his progress in the minors and he fully earned this look at the big league level. The club could desperately use a decent right handed hitting outfielder so hopefully some of this success transfers to the major league level.

    To be fair he can't be any worse than Chase Lee.

    I like the potential of the middle relief group a lot better with the likes of Sewald, Little and Tiedemann as all 4 should be able to generate tons of swing and miss vs the throw away arms of Estrada/Waldron/Lee etc.

    Yeah the dude is finally healthy enough to pitch and the low leverage group is a disaster so there's nothing to lose.

    I recall that post and it was 100% pure unadulterated doomer in nature. At the time I think the Jays were playing their best baseball of the season, were something like 2 games out of a wildcard spot and you said the season was completely finished.

    I'm cool with the expanded playoff format. The post deadline 2021 Blue Jays may have been MLB's best team and they painfully missed the post season by a single game. There are going to be seasons where mediocrity is the norm league wide but I think this is largely the exception and not the rule.

    I'd happily take Nance back as well. The Jays lower leverage group is downright horrible at the moment and it's too damn bad Nance was out of options as he was a solid contributor for the club.

    Robert Jr. still possesses elite physical tools including top end swing speed and sprint speed but he's seemingly lost his ability to square up the baseball. I think he might be a candidate to dial back the swing intensity a touch in order to allow him to find more barrels.

    I think Scherzer still has the requisite talent to be an effective starter when he's healthy enough to fully air out his pitches. I recall he received something like 3 or 4 injections in his thumb recently which is crazy and sooner or later I expect he's going to suffer a catastrophic career ending injury.

    I just don't think Robert offers enough upside to make his option worth picking up. If he doesn't heat up at the plate that would make 3 consecutive well below average offensive seasons for him. I think he's pretty much guaranteed to not have his option picked up as that's akin to lighting money on fire at this point.

    Go ahead and show how any of those injuries is the fault of the training staff.

    I think this largely shows Sewald has no business closing out games. It appears that 39 of his 45 appearances came in the 9th inning and with such extreme platoon splits it would be far too easy to stack the lineup with left handed pinch hitters.

    I legitimately think he's a prime candidate to push the limits on sweeper usage. I did a quick check and there are relievers throwing sliders/sweepers 60-70% of the time. Sewald has a really hard time keeping the ball in the park with the 4 seamer being the primary culprit and paring back the usage is worth a shot.

    Maybe he can largely shelve the fastball and spam sweepers 80% of the time.

    Barring an injury setback I do believe we'll see Tiedemann in a Blue Jays uniform before the end of the season. He's only been pitching an inning at a time so far and it feels risky to push him beyond that.

    It seems like every attempt the team makes at improving the rotation depth immediately blows up in their faces. Hey let's add Arrighetti at the deadline but then the foot issue immediately flares up again. Then Taillon was actually looking pretty good and BOOM he's out with forearm tendinitis. And worst of all Yesavage blows out his meniscus necessitating surgery. The club intended to run a 6 man rotation short term and then BAM 2 of those starters immediately hit the injured list. This is after Bieber and Yesavage both getting late starts to the season and losing Berrios and Ponce for nearly the entire year as well. This season is outright cursed rotation wise. Despite this beyond all odds they've somehow managed to squeak back into relevance working back to 2.5 games out of a wildcard spot largely thanks to how godawful the AL is this season.

    I think Votto could be a very successful coach if he decides to go that route.

    I like what I've seen from him so far. The quality of plate appearances is fantastic so hopefully he hits enough to be a regular contributor.

    I wouldn't say that Guerra is the second bright spot as I would rank both King and Perry well ahead of him. If you have to go to to the lengths of using xFIP to hate on a pitching prospect that seems to be grasping at straws. Stanifer has potential as a rotation arm as well but will need to improve upon his strike throwing if he's not going to find himself moved to a bullpen spot.

    Guerra increasing his K rate by 10% despite pitching in a higher level is exciting to me but apparently you have different standards. Danny Thompson Jr. is another guy who has improved his stuff and is having a nice season in the minor leagues.
