Without him flat out stating it, Ducks GM Verbeek basically implied that they were given the chance to discuss that with Gauthier's camp. They must have felt pretty confident in signing him before pulling the trigger for that price. It sounds like part of the divide between the Flyers and Gauthier was that the kid wanted to sign right out of the draft in lieu of going to college, and then again at the conclusion of his freshmen year last season. No doubt wanting to start his FA clock and just begin making money in general. The Flyers insisted he stay in school for further development and he stopped taking their calls. So as long as Anaheim is willing to sign him after his college season and play him in NHL games this year (thus burning a year off his entry level contract), I have little doubt he'll be happy to sign. Apparently Briere was given a list of 18-20 teams he'd be willing to go to anyway.

Yeah the Ducks were definitely building towards making a deal like this at some point. Just weren't going to have room for Mintyukov, Drysdale, Luneau, Zellweger (likely ready by next year) all to play an offensive, puck moving game. Always seemed likely that one of Drysdale or Zellweger would get moved for a big forward piece. The timing just sort of caught me off guard, seemed out of left field at first but makes sense upon further reflection. The Flyers have quietly been contemplating moving Gauthier ever since he wouldn't report to their summer prospects camp. The nail in the coffin came when he refused to meet with their top brass during the WJC, then went on to have a big tournament bringing his value to a peak. Drysdale has also looked really good since returning from his latest injury, so at this point I can understand why both teams felt more comfortable/excited with what they were receiving. There were some question marks about whether Gauthier belongs at center but that's no longer an issue, as his natural fit for Anaheim would be as a big scoring winger for Carlsson, McTavish or Zegras (if the latter stays at center himself)

Pretty big trade last night, don't often see recent high picks swapped like that.
  5. Not sure which you use but I've always found that the full version works better on mobile than the mobile version.
  6. He also curb stomped LHP, which is a weakness for the current group.

He's listed at 6'2 but really doesn't look it at all, I'd be surprised if he's actually any taller than 6'0. All hockey players seem to exaggerate but some more than others.
  13. I'm not clear on whether she's being accused of pimping her daughter out, or for extorting Franco upon finding out after the fact. One is definitely far worse than the other, but neither is ok. Extorting a pedo for financial gain, still gives him the chance to prey on other kids.

He has a game against Edmonton like that under his belt, I believe stopped 47-50 or something. He's been under the radar good for awhile now though, at 19 he was awarded as the best goalie in Finland's top league. Quick, athletic but slightly undersized.
  15. Lol that's funny, Gibby will always be the man.
  16. It would be far more interesting if contracts were standardized and front office staff had to compete in physical challenges for the rights to players. "The Jays are now in the lead for Yariel Rodriguez, after a stunning performance by Shapiro and Ross in the synchronized diving event"
