  1. Gets way more attention by sticking to his story, and clearly that's been the motivation here the entire time.
  2. Lol, how on earth could they possibly justify this? Terrible organization that should have a "leave no stone unturned" approach, rather than virtually the opposite.
  3. Why are you feeding the troll?
  4. Acuna is starting a brief rehab assignment soon, great to hear he's almost back.
  5. Sounds about right, I was leaning towards the Judge side but they should both be studs for quite some time.
  6. I never sleep on anything, when I have a big decision to make I will often stay up for days to plot every possible outcome.
  7. Like I said, at some point in the near future, thanks.
  8. The last time Mike Trout won AL player of the week was 2015.
  9. I would have to think his saving grace is his ability to generate ground balls.
  10. Well there was Ohtani
  11. I get what you're doing, but if you could stop at some point in the near future, that would be great.

Those picks being a 4th and 5th. Like we're really getting caught up on the value of Boedker vs a 4th + 5th because the rest of the deal is basically a wash. Personally I'd much rather take on Boedker as a decent player and hope he's worth more than a 4th and 5th by next deadline, than what you're proposing.

I wasn't saying the only point of taking Boedker was to meet the cap floor, that point was merely debating that you can just fill the spot with a kid. I don't see a kid in the org who is ready to play 18+ mins per night alongside Duchene, which Boedker can do, albeit likely unspectacular at that. Getting a similar caliber free agent likely costs you similar or greater salary on a longer term deal. Again I'll point out that Florida never offered to take Hoffman for just picks. The best assets changing hands (besides Hoffman) were the second to SJ and equivalent prospect to Ottawa. So it's pretty safe to assume that was the best type of piece they could get. I really don't see what is so bad about preferring Boedker to some late round picks, when he could be worth more than that at next year's deadline.

I'm discussing this particular move and not Dorion's entire body of work. There will be room for kids in the Sens roster, but there is such a thing as a cap floor. Boedker is a fast veteran that can give you half a point per game and then be flipped for a pick because he's shown he can step up in the playoffs. He's not great, but also not garbage. There are quotes now from Florida GM Tallon saying that Ottawa called him regarding Hoffman but wanted a roster player included in the deal, and talks went no further until San Jose called offering Hoffman for straight picks. There's no big difference in value between the two deals, and in fact Ottawa can garner more value going this route. If Boedker plays well enough you can flip him for a decent return next year, and the cap space isn't an issue in the mean time.

Ottawa gives- Hoffman, 5th, nothing prospect Ottawa gets- prospect drafted in 2nd round, 6th, Boedker as placeholder top 9 forward who could be flipped for a pick next deadline SJ gives - prospect recently drafted 2nd round, 6th, Boedker SJ gets - 2nd, 4th and two 5ths, $4M space Florida gives - 2nd, 4th, 5th Florida gets- Hoffman I get that Florida and San Jose both make out well due to Ottawa's situation, but what I don't see is the highway robbery by San Jose that some are making this out to be. They essentially sold Boedker for some mid rounds picks and cap space, which is fair given that he's a decent top 9 winger who is slightly overpaid for a couple seasons.

How do you know what Florida did or didn't offer Dorion? Besides, I think your exaggerating the difference between the two deals. The prospect Ottawa received was a 2nd round pick himself, and closer to the NHL than whoever gets taken with that 2019 2nd. The rest of the pieces are all throw ins, other than Boedker, who Ottawa can hope bounces back enough to have a bit of value at next year's trade deadline. It basically boils down to the difference between Boedker or a couple draft picks (4th + 5th), I'd say that's hardly worth the ridicule Dorion is taking.
  18. Safe to assume the majority of savings came from that pick, but if I'm reading it all correctly, Conine will be coming in slightly underslot as well.
  19. My team needs a new name now

I'd say the opposite, Wilson just looks smart right now. Everyone in the league knew Ottawa had to move Hoffman right away, if no one offered them more than "$20" than what were they supposed to do? Toxic situation, had to be done. San Jose gets compensated to act as a middle man between two divisional teams, it likely just means Florida wasn't willing to help Ottawa out of their situation without bending them over even worse than San Jose.
