    It will make for a fascinating case study if followed through upon. I remember that Paul Kariya had a similar stance early in his NHL career, only wanted to sign short term deals in attempt to maximize future earnings. Not really related but he also signed a dirt cheap one year deal in order to take advantage of a loophole that allowed him to become an unrestricted free agent earlier.
