  1. Nah the perfect example is Grichuk. Galvis is a solid player, and has been pretty much as expected. Grichuk has been given a contract that reflects a player like you're describing even though arguably he hasn't actually performed like it.
  2. I don't think that's true, but even if it was - I don't see the point of acquiring multiple vets to try to get a better chance of .500. This season developing our own prospects is more important IMO. If none (or hardly any of them) develop then I don't see the problem with trying the same strategy again next year with the addition of whatever prospects we get from trading Giles / Smoak. We are not a good team, and until some of the prospects become good players then signing a handful of vets isn't going to make us into contenders.
  3. That's not quite true though. We all assume people like Jansen and Vlad will be good, but we're going to need at least a few other prospects to show signs of life this year otherwise there are too many holes IMO. Hopefully we can get a few long term assets out of people like Tellez, Merryweather, Biggio, Hernandez, Gurriel, Bichette, even Pompey.
  4. TBF what's even worse is watching s*** like Brito and Hanson. Sogard is the same category of player but he has been really good so far - it's not going to last though and we all know it. At least if a prospect catches lightning in a bottle, you can dream about them sticking. I see this year as all about working out who can be a contributor in the years to come, so those 3 players are a waste of time IMO. Even if Sogard somehow keeps up his level of play (he won't) we're not going to trade him for anything significant. The other players you mentioned are different because they are all pretty good (Smoak / Galvis / Shoemaker) to very good (Giles / maybe Stroman) and I agree that scorched earth and trade everyone isn't necessary or even the optimum tactic.
  5. Nah, attitudes will change when the team is successful again and is considered a contender. AA only became super popular when he brought playoff baseball back to the team, and then he left before the team's window shut. Casuals only care about the big league team, the farm is irrelevant to them. The team at the MLB level has been worse since Shatkins took over compared to the last couple of years of AA, therefore Shatkins = unpopular.
  6. TBF Richard and Merryweather both sound like they are close to rehabilitation starts in the minors, with Phelps not far behind.
  7. As fun as that would be, d’Arnaud has already signed with the Dodgers.
  8. Kawhi spent nearly a whole season sitting out with the Spurs, to try to force a trade to the Clippers. He's going to LA no matter what happens in the playoffs.
  9. The 76ers are just leaving him and Gasol open to shoot.
  10. Yeah, he’ll be a great signing for the Clippers in the offseason!
  11. I love that you get so wound up about bunting, but you really need to let it go for the good of your health haha.
  12. That was great, Boban comes on just to make the inbound more difficult!
  13. And again....
  14. Haha, the dead eye stare at him on the floor is so much more powerful than beating your chest etc IMO.
  15. Nah, keep Biggio as an infielder rather than a utility player. Biggio can replace Sogard once he reverts to a pumpkin or get a call when there is an injury.
  16. He’s got to be better than Hanson as the utility player! DFA Brito and call up Gurriel please.
  17. Solid / OK player, not worth locking up for 5 years IMO. TBF we are weak in OF and it's not like he's a bad player, but I haven't seen anything yet that suggests it was a move that had to be made.
  18. Additional Positives -Elvis hasn't been completely overmatched in every appearance, I'm more confident we can hide him on the roster all year now without harming his development. -We are not the Orioles. Additional Negatives -Shoemaker getting injured for the rest of the season - he was looking good and could have been traded to a contender. -Grichuk hasn't shown anything to suggest he's anything more than an OK player - not convinced his extension is a good move. -This season was Gurriel's chance to secure 2B for the foreseeable future, and he's blown it with terrible play in the field. It looks more likely he'll be a utility player now (if he sticks at all) and not a starter. -It needs to be restated how f***ing awful the Brito and Hanson signings have been. Not only have they sucked, but the signings are pointless wastes of roster spots that could be taken by fringe prospects who at least of a chance of surprising and improving with playing time at MLB.
  19. Have to give credit to the 76ers for how they’ve come back from game 1. Embiid was immense in game 3.
  20. I’d almost forgotten we’d signed the knuckleballer from the Korean League.
  21. Messi is a god. That is all.
  22. Considering Liverpool's (on paper) conservative formation I can't believe how open the game is!
