  1. TIL that if you think pissing on someone is out of line you're a SJW
  2. As well as comeback player and executive, Ken adds in biggest player to be traded at the deadline - he goes for Zach Britton.
  3. Yeah fair point, but I do think Cy Young is more likely than MVP to go to someone who isn't a top 5 player. I don't think many people would have predicted Porcello winning in the AL last year for example.
  4. Haha, yeah I'm expecting the Astros to be really good this year, Chris Archer is my favourite pitcher (so I'm biased), and I'm assuming Kershaw and Thor have injuries again this season.
  5. AL 2017 MVP: Correa (Astros) CY YOUNG: Archer (Rays) ROTY: Judge (Yankees) MANAGER OTY: Hinch (Astros) WORLD SERIES REP: Blue Jays NL 2017 MVP: Harper (Nationals) CY YOUNG: Martinez (Cardinals) ROTY: Swanson (Braves) MANAGER OTY: Black (Rockies) WORLD SERIES REP: Nationals
  6. Jeurys Familia suspended 15 games for violating MLB domestic violence policy
  7. TBF collective projections for bullpens are almost completely pointless. Pretty much any OK reliever can catch lightning in a bottle and have an all star season. Unless you've got more than one of the handful of elite relievers, then the difference between one team and another is impossible to predict. I agree with you that our 1-5 being arguably top 5 in the majors should carry more weight in the overall starters ranking.
  8. The chances of them picking Goins who's role right now is at best a bench alternative to Barney, over Upton who right now at worst is a platoon alternative to Carrera, is surely close to zero. If Pagan or someone similar signed I could see them debating whether to lose Carrera or Upton, with the sensible decision being Upton, but if they let Gibby pick again (like they did with Valencia / Colabello) him picking Carrera.
  9. I'm pleasantly surprised Latos has turned down his opt out and will report to AAA. Zero risk for the Jays, if he is good for the Bisons he can be called up to replace an injured player, if he isn't then he helps fill out the AAA roster.
  10. Interesting article on Moncada - you sure you're ready for this?
  11. Updated: Wong clarifies comments on potential platoon at second base "I didn't mean it for me to come off seeming like I wanted to be traded or wanted to get out of this organization. I love playing for the Cardinals. If that wasn't the reason, then I never would have signed that extension. I wanted to be here for the long term. I still want to." /end thread
  12. Mark Lowe turned 3 decent months with Seattle into a shot at a ring with the Jays (where he was nothing special) and then $11m. He is what all journeyman relievers should aspire to.
  13. FWIW I've always thought we could do better, we could do worse, and he does handle the clubhouse well. I'm glad he's been given an extension to ensure there's no chance of it turning into a distraction.
  14. Is this some sort of board meme that I've missed out on? Because up until the end of last season, I'd have categorised the board as majority anti Gibby, with a sizeable minority accepting the grass isn't always greener, but only a minority actually loving him. I guess my view is clouded by the GDT threads where the negative views tend to be more prevalent.
  15. Good point that is often ignored. Even if we did keep all 3 until now, it would have had knock on effects for other roster moves. Maybe we don't trade for Donaldson for example, maybe Sanchez never becomes a starter etc. Basically roster construction isn't linear and neither is player development.
  16. Off topic - but I can't begin to tell you how much I dislike that term - it's an American English word that just sounds so stupid and would never be used this side of the pond. I use Americanisms all the time, but I draw the line at that one!
  17. If Thole misses the entire season it'll be his best season by WAR for six years.
  18. Yes, the ballpark is really nice, very picturesque. It's downtown right next to the NFL stadium, with some good sports bars nearby. If you're looking for something else to do while there, apart from the obvious touristy things like the space needle, I strongly recommend a visit to the Boeing factory just outside the city. You tour the facilities and see planes (including the enormous double decked new design) in various stages of being built.
  19. The internet has changed everything. 15-20 years ago if you wanted to see live sport, it was pay a lot of money for cable, pay even more to go to the games, or nothing. Very few cable companies offer packages where you can pick and choose what you want - nearly all come with standard s*** that you have to take in order to get the bit you want. To thrive, they need to offer a complete customizable package, that a lot more people would be willing to pay for. TV in general is a declining industry because the majority people want to watch things on demand, and without adverts.
  20. Of course. He may have failed to shine, or succeeded in those chances, but we'll never know. That was the risk, we weren't getting Price without giving up something. The trade was made to secure playoffs for that season, which worked. Even though we didn't win it all, none of us will ever forget the bat flip and one of the best innings ever.
  21. Norris wouldn't get in our current rotation though. I mean roster construction doesn't work like that obviously, as the Hutch trade and/or Happ and Estrada signings might not have happened if we still had Norris, but still. No Price = no playoffs = no batflip. IMO it was worth the risk. Norris wasn't a can't miss prospect.
  22. Mate it's just a balancing act between convenience and cost. For me I pay the equivalent of $50 p/m for unlimited 50gb internet. I can stream anything with little lag. For baseball it's very easy to find solid streams usually in HD. But you have to accept that sometimes the stream will die part way through, and you need to find another one. Other sports that aren't played every day suffer a bit more from streams getting shut down (soccer especially) so you sometimes have to be patient. You can also stream tv shows / movies etc simply by googling watch title online free. You'll often need to spend 10 minutes to find a working stream though. You also need to have an adblocker active at all times, but otherwise it's fine. However, I also pay for Netflix as it's more convenient even though every single show on there I could watch for free if I wanted to. If I lived in Canada I'd probably consider MLB.tv (it's much more expensive over here because of additional taxes, and because of the time difference I can't watch most games live anyway) but not cable tv. If you watch a lot then maybe cable/MLB.tv is worth it to you. But it's perfectly possible to pay nothing other than your internet.
  23. From the official report: “Fernández operated [the boat] with his normal faculties impaired, in a reckless manner, at an extremely high rate, in the darkness of night, in an area with known navigational hazards such as rock jetties and channel markers.” "Fernández’s blood alcohol content was .147, and he had trace amounts of cocaine in his system. Had he survived, he could have been prosecuted for boating-under-the-influence manslaughter and vessel homicide."
  24. The $5m to $10m earnings a year would probably help you to get over that feeling
