  1. Wow Espy, fantastic eye.
  2. 5 straight good ABs. Chapman, Gurriel, Zimmer, Spirnger and now Espy
  3. Excellent AB Gurriel, regardless of outcome.
  4. Watching his ABs, it's hard to believe he ever makes contact.
  5. Good job Chapman, missed that meatball but didn't swing at the junk. Decent AB.
  6. Yes but can you make it good contact with a pitch in that spot? Maybe instead, especially with a hitter as talented as Vladdy, he meets the ball late and fouls it off, until he gets something he can damage.
  7. Yes it would tbh. Don't swing at s*** until you have 2 strikes. At that point fight off pitches on the edges until you get a hanger or middle heater that makes your eyes light up.
  8. I wonder how long it will take for Vladdy and gang to decide they can't do anything with those outside pitches whether they make contact or not, and stop swinging at them? Hopefully, not another month.
  9. I know he struck out the side in the 1st, but Berrios' stutf, or maybe how he uses it, just seems to get shelled more often than missing bats.
  10. Yeah, he needs a summer with the high performance team in Dunedin at the complex to fix that swing and miss. He'll strike out >40% in the majors in his current form and probably break his spirit.
  11. Hopefully the 1st remain as SPs though. They could arrive to push the envelope just as Ryu and Kikuchi come off the books. I like Pearson better for the BP since he can't stay healthy and can't control all his pitches.
  12. I would still do that. I'm buying into the idea of keeping Kirk and Jansen for C/DH, especially if we land Soto, so Moreno is replaceable or moves to 3B in my ideal line-up. And then Martinez takes over 3B in my line-up above. ^
  13. This removes the need to pay Bo, which helps absorb some of a Soto extension. You also don't need to re-sign Teo, LGJ or Chapman since we still have Soto/Moreno/Groshans and others in the minors to reshuffle around so someone else plays in the OF. This line-up looks disgusting for the foreseeable future Short-term 1. CF Springer 2. LF Soto 3. 1B Guerrero Jr 4. RF Hernandez 5. SS Espinal 6. C Kirk/Jansen 7. 3B Chapman 8. DH Gurriel Jr/Kirk 9. 2B Groshans Long-term 1. CF Springer 2. LF Soto 3. 1B Guerrero Jr 4. 3B Moreno 5. SS Espinal 6. C Jansen 7. RF Prospect??? 8. DH Kirk 9. 2B Groshans
  14. That's, honestly, very interesting. Bo, Martinez & Pearson for Soto. Do we and, more importantly, do the Jays and Nats FO do this? Personally, I do this. You need to buy into Espinal's 6 fWAR projection as what he is, and then you can move him to SS, and call up Groshans to play 2B.
  15. Yeah, that doesn't seem affordable in prospect capital and payroll obligations, realistically. 2 and 1/2 years of Soto is Moreno, Martinez, Groshans, Tiedemann ++. Then you have to pay him and Vlad for extensions. Both will be north of 30+ AAV for 10Y +. You'll need to pass on extending Bo, Teo and many more players in the core, with no farm system or payroll to replenish them with above average players. Can you draft/sign/develop enough prospects in the time it takes Bo to leave in FA? That's the question and it's a helluva risk. Short term, this would be fantastic though.
  16. Thanks for this Laika. Very informative. That is interesting with the 4SM being used more and getting rocked. I'm definitely leaning more towards your point on the command being off, and a change to his delivery or mechanics being a potential solution (which I think is being done according to Shulman I believe). Without knowing for sure, I wonder if throwing the 4SM more is impacting his feel for his Slurve pitch? Maybe it's leading more towards Slider and being more Horizontal instead of Vertical because his finger grips are getting all confused together or something.
  17. Those are my thoughts, poor command and poor game calling (something Pete, Jose and the C need to work on overhauling).
  18. Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with him. Great stuff but poor game plan is my guess. Also, the FB, from the eye test, seems slower, but I haven't checked, to be fair, if that's true. I heard Carlos Pena prior to the season mention that he believed for Berrios to be elite, he'd need to change his game plan and toss 4SM FB up and in to LH and RH and reduce the reliance on the 2SM FB. The 2FB seems to run out over the plate to LH and get smoked, which isn't ideal. From what I've seen, I would agree. High 4FBs up and in, which CH darting down and away from LH/down and in to RH, as well as the CV down and away to RH/down and in to LH is the magic plan to work for him. Same thing we used to say about Stroman to be honest. He's very similar to him on the field. Though couldn't be any more different off of it.
  19. Yeah, Jansen can punch hit for Tapia or Chapman later in the game. We still have Capra and Zimmer on the bench.
  20. I'm less enthused by Robberse than others. I feel his stuff is kind of mediocre and so are the results.
  21. Oh yeah? How's his FB? I thought I read somewhere it was low 90s.
  22. I think so man! Hitting 100 with the FB and K'ing the world is sufficient for me to jump on the bandwagon.
  23. He was considered a gem draft pick in 2020. He's probably one of those guys with a big uptick in stuff and results after training at our performance centre.
