  1. This is the reality of any baseball game, the officiating can seemingly go against you at any given game and it's up to us to adjust accordingly and deal with it. Without a doubt it was inconsistent, but as Martin said, I doubt the guy went out there looking to make unfavourable calls. What concerns me the most is the level of frustrations our players feel about the issue and how those frustrations may be possibly affecting their patience/approach to the plate. We definitely let it get to our heads more than we should have from all those disgusted reactions the players showed after the at bats. I think part of that was the pressure of being the favourites/playing under huge expectations at home. With a day off I hope our players can cool their heads, forget about it, and come back in game 3 with the same good old approach they have been taking throughout the season that enabled them to become the best run-scoring team in the league.
  2. Thing is that his last two starts vs. the Rangers in Arlington has been wins. Had that win on his birthday this year (which was so-so but still had 8 strikeouts in 5 innings) and the one previous was that crucial play-in game win in 2013, which for some reason seems often forgotten about; that was basically a huge WC game-like situation. On paper that was a regular season game but in reality was a post season game IMO. I do like the suggested possibility of Price possibly coming off the pen after Dickey though, that could sort of offset the absence of Cecil in the pen.
  3. I do wonder if they'll go this route with the rotation, and even if they decide to stick with Dickey, if they'll utilize Price/Stro more flexibly over the possible final two games (one of them off the bullpen perhaps?).
  4. Lewis did get hit pretty hard in Arlington the last time we faced them IIRC, might have been a factor. And Holland actually has the best batting avg against vs. our hitters out of any of their pitchers.
  5. And if we win game 5, there will be game 1. Then we get to do this all over again. Let's make it happen.
  6. But he did end up stealing the base. Two bases actually. I'm guessing you mean him not stealing during the Martin at bat? It probably would have made more sense to attempt to steal during his at bat, yes, but it's hard to say from our point of view what really happened there; for all we know maybe Pompey wasn't comfortable in stealing at that particular point, he had just come on and had to read the pitcher's move/timing, and Tolleson did throw over to him a lot. The fact that he did steal two bases later suggests to me that he was indeed reading his move and timing during that Martin at bat. I know stealing can look pretty easy to some, but it's honestly not an easy art.
  7. I don't think anyone is arguing the fact that there is a time and place for manufacturing runs and utilizing your speed. I'm just saying it really didn't have too much of an effect on things in how the 92/93 teams generally won their games. And I don't think our team this year has been particularly all that bad at either, our steal rates are very decent and we lead the league in sacrifice flies IIRC. What would you have done differently with our situations today then, for example?
  8. Actually, in our 92/93 playoff runs, I can barely remember any moments where we actually manufactured runs with our speed. We just straight up outhit our opponents/got a key homer for most of the games we won, especially in 1993. I take that 0-6 stuff in the post season thing with a grain of salt as the his past playoffs records don't have much to do with this series in particular. Facing different squads and he was a different pitcher back then. Price had a bad start in game 1, yes, but that has little if anything to do with his past playoff experience, he just had a bad game (as he did vs. Tampa). If anything, if you want to talk his performance in pressure situations, I think a lot of people forget that play-in game he won in a complete game against the Rangers a few years ago because it technically wasn't a playoff game, but in reality that was no different in comparison to something like a wild card game.
  9. With us behind 0-2 in the series now, we're now the underdogs in likelihood of winning the series so hopefully that pressure our players may have felt from the first two home games as heavy favourites is now off. Pressure is now on Rangers now to finish it off at their home, and each game in where they fail to do so will build up to even more pressure on their end. A statement game from us offensively for game 3 will swing the momentum right back to our side IMO.
  10. I'm quite optimistic about our chances in Arlington; we have an 8-2 record there in the past 3 years. I think the bats will come alive again starting on Sunday night, we just gotta hope that Estrada can limit the long balls on their end (which is my main concern with Marco), I'm still more worried about our pitching than hitting to be honest.
  11. I think the most frustrating thing for me as a fan, and probably for the players as well, is how little they've been in control of the games both Game 1 and most of Game 2. We had been behind playing catch up/at even score for most of the innings in Game 1/2 combined after an early slip up by us in both, and it seemed like everytime we inched back into it, they went ahead to score an extra insurance run. We finally got over the hump and took the lead in today's game but to give that up in just a few innings (with your best reliever on at that) was just totally demoralizing. IMO this team needs one of those typical big innings they were used to getting in the regular season to get their confidence and groove back, to believe that they can overtake the control of any given game at any time again.
  12. Reading above it seemed like Cecil had good career numbers vs. Napoli also, in which case I suppose that was a fair go. Either way, I felt that it was the critical moment of the game... we had finally managed to take the lead after being down for all of game 1 and half of game 2, and to have our best reliever blow it (granted, it was an inherited run and not earned under Cecil), then to have him go off injured felt really demoralizing overall. Ironic thing is that the two relievers we were worried about the most in Osuna and Sanchez both had great scoreless outings afterwards.
  13. Reminded me of this (although this was a quad injury): http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view/119866/kevin-nash-quad-o.gif
  14. Yeah, seems inconclusive. Pretty sure the review would have gone in our favour if it was originally called an out for that very reason. Just one of those situations of inconclusive evidence/call on the field stands.
  15. Bringing in Mark B with his reverse splits to give him a role that he's not used to doesn't really make much sense, but it probably doesn't matter who we switch him out for anyhow. It'll prob be that righty that has the best lefty splits but that doesn't mean that he'll be used... so hopefully, Loup can step up his game as basically our only real lefty arm in the pen now.
  16. Yeah, this is the most reasonable performance that we can expect out of them at this point I think. It would be very hard to accept a sweep at the hands of the Rangers any way you look at it... if they end up losing the series we can't be really surprised at that at this point, but I do expect them to at least put up a good fight in Arlington for couple games to give us some hope. I'd also like to see one more (which I'm sure would be a very inspired) start from Price to give him a chance to redeem himself... no offense to Dickey but at this point I do think we have to play this card.
  17. Not saying that this was the critical mistake of the day, but I did find it interesting that Cecil was allowed to remain on to face Napoli (and not Lowe when he had already been warm in the pen) when Gibby had been pretty consistent going with the lefty/lefty, righty/righty matchups whenever possible late in games all year. Did Napoli have bad career numbers vs. Cecil, or was it just that Gibby possibly wanted to get more than one inning out of Cecil on the day and just have him close it(Cecil obviously had been our best reliever coming in)?
  18. If there is any hope to hang on to now I suppose it's that Jays this year in general has been steaky when it comes to wins, and that they've played very well in Arlington over the last 3 years. A huge task obviously, but I also don't see it as an impossible. We just need our guys to step up their game to their next level and just get on a roll again to beat the odds.
  19. Missing Beltre creates a big hole for them offensively, Alberto is obviously nowhere near the hitter and showed a few vulnerable moments in defence as well. If JD and Bats are indeed fine (I'd reckon not 100% but hopefully at least 90%) then advantage us in my view.
  20. To be honest I think Stroman himself would lobby for Price to pitch in that situation, haha. I know he looks up to Price a lot. It's amazing how Price can have the kind of the year that he's had with us, has one bad start in the playoffs and many people start to question whether he should even be out there pitching (not necessarily from anyone here on this board but from many bandwagon fans I've seen elsewhere)... his past playoff record IMO is just that, in the past, against different lineups than what it currently is, and I think his performance throughout THIS year should hold more weight. He's been very good for like 10 out of 12-13 starts he's been with us, many of them in very high pressure games... so I'll gladly take those odds to throw him out there again for game 5. He's our ace for a reason.
  21. Yeah, I have no idea why they get to decide that, I'd reckon it would be part of the "Home advantage". Not that I believe closing or opening the roof necessarily matters in impacting our gameplay in too meaningful of a way, maybe aside from the Dickey thing (who ironically enough won't be pitching at home this series)...
  22. Really uncertain of what to expect of Hamels tm (his record vs. Jays hitters isn't great, but it's a small sample size), but I have a feeling as long as Stroman can have a quality start vs Rangers tm our offence can do enough vs. Hamels to give us a good chance to win. As for the Donaldson thing I think Rangers have just as much, if not more to worry about with Beltre's injury. Tulo looks to me like he's fine, maybe minus some potential power.
  23. 1-4 if we include that play in game complete game win he had (I know the play in game is technically part of the regular season, but in reality is no different from something like a Wild Card game).
  24. He can have a bad start on any given day just like anyone else I guess, but Stroman has faced some of the toughest hitting teams in the AL over his stretch, the Yankees/Red Sox/Orioles... I haven't seen anything that suggest he'll suddently drop off vs. the Rangers form wise (although I'm sure someone will bring that 9 day rest issue up).
