  1. Well, it seems like light hitting Alberto in Beltre's place, good break for us.
  2. Who would play in place for Beltre if he goes out with his injury?
  3. We should stop with all these 2B pickoff plays... I mean, how often do they even work anyway? Not to mention the chance of the catcher throwing the ball away, IMO not worth it
  4. Very small sample (one or two starts if that) but career numbers indicate that Jays hitters in total hit over .300 vs him, so I wouldn't put it past them.
  5. Damn, I have to say that I did not expect Yanks to go out this meekly. That late season form really carried over big time it seems. Kudos to Astros for just pitching extremely well overall, I don't think a Yankees runner reached third tonight? Them and Royals should be a very interesting matchup.
  6. Yeah, once he gets rid of the typical "uh"s and "um"s that a lot of people new to broadcasting tends to do, he already seems like he can step right in. Very likeable, cool dude.
  7. He is an adopted Korean, like Hank Conger.
  8. To me the box calls too much attention to itself and takes away from taking in the whole pitcher/batter experience. Like sportsnet's solution better where it's in a separate box so I can see it after the pitch hits the glove if I'm curious about it (plus it tracks all the previous pitches).
  9. Ugh, that overlayed strike zone on espn broadcast is super annoying... I hope sportsnet never goes down that path and keep it as is.
  10. for sure we have the defensive advantage in most of the positions. Hamilton and Choo both have good arms that we may need to be careful with in taking extra base/tagging up on though.
  11. Revere and Tulo had been very successful vs. Gallardo during their national league tenures; Tulo in particular is hitting over .400 vs. Gallardo, 11 for 27 lifetime. And EE has hit over .300 vs. him with 3 HRs as well. He's had two good starts vs. us this year for sure but we've got some guys that have good history of success against him so I'm not that worried personally. BTW, while the samples are small Hamels' numbers vs. our hitters aren't that great either, FWIR.
  12. Funny enough I recall the last time we made the playoffs there was a federal election going on... much like this year, coincidently. Scary to think that is now 6 federal elections ago.
  13. The Yanks are probably the team that has stumbled the most coming into the playoffs, it should be very interesting to see how they respond to this single wildcard game. Last time Keuchel pitched in the Yankees Stadium, it was that 15-1 Houston rout, and I think he went 7 scoreless, so Houston also has that going for them. But of course you can never count the Yankees out at their own home.
  14. I think JB's going to be the difference maker this series as far as our offence goes. We have guys like Revere, JB, and EE seeing and hitting the ball real well right now while Texas also have guys like Choo/Beltre/Fielder that have been hot coming in. If JD can gain second wind here and play more to the standards of his pre-September form, then I think that would be something that takes us over the top. Tulo might be another X-factor if he can somehow suddenly play back up to his normal offensive standards, but I'll keep my expectations at a reasonable level with him only recently having come back from that shoulder injury (but hopefully those two doubles in his first two games back is a good sign).
  15. In checking vs. stats, it seems like Tulo, Edwin, Revere and JD (JD has a smaller sample size however) have the best individual numbers vs. Gallardo, while the rest are pretty much miserable. Edwin in particular is 5-for-16 with 3 HRs while Tulo kills him, being 11-for-27 lifetime. As long as Edwin keeps up his current form and Tulo comes through I think he should be able to deal some major damage to him if Revere and JD can get on ahead of those two.
  16. Well, that in the end just goes to support the fact that there's more to how they vote for the MVP than the sabremetric stats, which should work more in his favor this year. He finished 4th and 8th in voting in those years IIRC. I'm not discrediting JD here in saying that he was a nobody before this year (I admit I used the word "breakout" way too loosely there), he had obviously established himself, but he's definitely taken it to the next level this year where he's gotten himself in the mix as the CLEAR top two candidate to the eyes of pretty much anyone.
  17. I meant as a true top tier MVP caliber player, at least compared to Trout at least who had come in to the season as the reigning MVP (and coming up just short three times before that). Donaldson's last two seasons in Oakland were nice but not quite up to that level.
  18. As the stats differences are minor and since JD has provided what is a much better story (a breakout player who's lead his new team to the playoffs for the first time in 21 years, with many clutch moments), I'm still quite confident that JD will get most of the votes. If Angels came back to make it to the post season piggybacking on Trout's hot streak in the end here then it might have changed things a little, but since that's now fallen short I think it's JD all the way.
  19. It certainly looks like they have ZERO confidence in Loup right now, probably rightfully so. I'd say if we're even a bit hesitant in using Loup in a key LOOGY situation then just don't bother taking him at all.
  20. We may not necessarily go with the 3 man rotation but it might be something that has to be strongly considered as an alternative pending on how the series goes (e.g: if we go down 2-0 in the series).
  21. If he does he'd be pitching on 3 days rest, and since he's just pitched a 9 inning complete game today (albeit with modest amount of 108 pitches) I'm guessing probably not unless they want to really push him.
  22. So, who do you guys think we should go with for game 2? Stro or Dickey? Going with Dickey would allow us to have him pitch at home with the Dome likely closed (if this current cold weather spell keeps up) in which he's a noticeably better pitcher, but then the guy who goes game 2 is probably also the guy for game 5 if it comes down to that as well, for which I'm sure lot of people would prefer Stro over Dickey...
  23. Good news is that we haven't lost any reg. season series vs. the Rangers since 2012.
  24. Goldschmidt has restored the Dbacks lead.
  25. Probably, unless they put a lot of stock into how Gallardo did against us throughout the season and use him instead or they're brave enough to put Hamels back out on 3 days rest.
