    Yes suggesting that a player that hasn't provided hardly any value over the course of 150 games might not hurt us by being out of the lineup is equivalent to wishing suicide. Brilliant stuff there.

    Sure, that's the easy part, the discussion here is what do you do if they just don't buy in? There are those of us that say, at some point you have to have balls as an organization, and there's others that say no balls necessary.

    Agreed, wouldn't bother me at all if we played the rest of the season without him.

    Then it's on us to kick Tampa's ass. The fact of the matter is we have a lot of really tough pitching matchups coming up, we can't expect to trip and fall backwards into the playoffs, we have to beat good teams and we have to beat great pitchers or we don't deserve to get in. I'm not necessarily saying we're going to do it, but that's the task at hand.

    That s*** doesn't happen anymore. Guys are too soft and everyone's too sensitive. You're not allowed to have that kind of leadership anymore.

    Actually sending a message is very important, you have to establish what will and won't go in your organization, no one player is going to be bigger than the organization, ever. But the other point of it is you can't count on them long-term, you can't count on bodies like that and attitudes like that, it's going to f*** you in the end if you don't get rid of people who refuse to be professional. Sure it's possible that maybe you can remain an obese everyday player and not break down until you're in your mid-30s but the odds are against it.

    Those are the primary options and you establish that before the off-season in private to give them a fair chance to get in shape, offer them all the resources in the world, their own chef and trainer the whole nine yards. At that point, if you've told them what you expected of them, and it's a reasonable thing to expect, and you've given them the resources, and they flat out refuse then you can't go forward with players like this. You can't have core pieces who don't want to be professionals, and professionals have to take their bodies seriously. The alternative is to send a message to everyone in your organization that you're not going to take fitness and nutrition seriously, to run these guys out there and then what? Do you lock them up to long-term contracts with those bodies? Do you wait for them to break down and then try to trade them? You can't count on them long term so if you have to cut bait then cut bait.

    Well the Yankees suck, in theory Gausman should do well, but then again we suck against good pitching so King should do well. Bet the under. Game might be determined by one big swing from somebody.

    Agreed. 1,000%. They control playing time, they control options in the early part of their career. For anybody to suggest that these players, who are expensive assets being paid good sums of money, can do whatever the f*** they want and the organization can go f*** themselves, well if you let that happen that's on you as an organization. You have options. Use them.

    Bullpen was thin today unfortunately, cost them the game. That sucks.

    Houston plays KC but he first game is against Ragans and we have a tie break on Houston. That's a massive factor. Houston might also have one more loss than both Texas and Seattle by the end of today, another huge factor. Look at it this way, if today's results hold, and let's say we drop another six of our remaining games. That would mean we only need Houston to lose four of their remaining games, but we would need both Seattle and Texas to lose six of their remaining games. Which do you think is most likely?

    If they split their games 4-3, that's very bad for us. Texas only has the angels and they suck. Seattle has Houston but the pitching favors Seattle so I think they take two of three from Houston. I'm starting to think Houston might be the most catchable team.

    King is tough. Of our remaining games, we have two against King, two against Cole, and two against Glasnow. It's going to be rough. Ideally Houston and Seattle lose today although I don't have much faith in Oakland.

    Angels couldn't win an intersquad game at this point. Hopefully Texas crushes Seattle, or Houston continues to be weird and keep losing.

    The only games that the Rangers are going to lose from here on out are the ones they lose to Seattle. Angels are the only other series they have and they're completely rudderless at this point. That won't be enough to keep them at bay. They're going to be in. I just hope they dominate Seattle then.

    I still think we've been more lucky than unlucky so I don't buy the 95 win thing. We've been really really lucky with our starting rotation. We had zero depth most of the season until Ryu got healthy and even then our only depth was Manoah. We walked a super tight high wire act and it should have cost us the season but it didn't. I think the upside luck in the pitching more than makes up for any downside luck on the offense. At the very least it evens it out.

    Two out of three results tonight. I'll take it. I also want Baltimore to pull away from Tampa so that that final series is rendered meaningless to them.
