  1. Could be an interesting trade target. Completely crapped the bad after moving cross town but if he pitches like he did in the first half, would be a great add.
  2. Something like the same amount of money over 10 years rather than 12? 22-23mill AAV sounds fair
  3. Would love to get Castillo but I would assume Pearson along with Kirk and Groshans go the other way in that trade. Not saying that’s a deal breaker for me, I just don’t think you can count on Pearson as depth in this scenario.
  4. I’d take Matz, trade for a Marlins/A’s pitcher and bring back Semien. Once Moreno arrives for 3B, that is a terrifying lineup and rotation. Hopefully there’s enough in the budget to get a guy like McHugh for the pen, too.
  5. I do agree with you about avoiding committing that much money to older guys. I’ve told friends that Ray should be priority since the Jays don’t seem to have the same high end pitching prospects as they do infield prospects. I’d only go in on both guys if Rogers were willing to go up to and maybe even over the luxury tax for a couple of years to build a monster team. Never gonna happen though
  6. I’d love to have both Ray and Semien back if they take about 25 each. A little worried that it could handcuff the Jays a couple years from now when Vlad and Bo gotta get paid though. One thing I’ve wondered, could Semien come back and convert to 3rd? He likely says no, but if we give him the one big contract he’s looking for as a shortstop maybe he’s open to moving over. Then you can keep biggio at second where he is way more confident and can focus on his hitting, too.
  7. His last two years have been pretty average, but I would hope that brings his price down a bit. Also, isn’t Grichuk a capable centrefielder defensively? Would shifting him there and putting Ozuna in RF not improve our OF situation?
  8. If the Jays look to free agency for an outfielder, should Ozuna be the guy they look at? Or is he going to get a ridiculous contract along with the draft pick loss?
  9. Oh ok. I always thought all payrolls reflected the team’s AAVs of their contracts regardless of payroll size. I guess I’m just thinking it doesn’t matter if the Jays pumped their payroll to 110 mill next year and then higher year over year to extend their young guys. They’re not a franchise that needs to be creative with payroll like the Royals or Rays. If they’re succeeding with some big vets and young guys, the revenues should get better again, too.
  10. Oh yeah, I don’t doubt that. I just meant what would be the point of playing around with the actual payments for players when it’s averaged out anyways for the payroll. Front loading/back loading seems like something teams with financial issues would do, but I would assume the Jays can pay 25mill annually and just raise the payroll year over year as they become competitive again and revenue increases.
  11. I think I’m with most that this is the off-season to open the wallet, even if legit contention is still two more seasons away. I’d love to see the Jays target Cole and Rendon (move Vladdy to first) and use some trade chips for an outfielder. It’s wishful thinking, but hey, what else can we at this point? One thing I’ve noticed people mention here is front loading contracts. I can see it as a benefit for the player but what does it really do for a team like the Jays later on in terms of financial flexibility? Aren’t contracts weighted equally each year of a contract for the luxury tax?
  12. What would a solution look like this to problem? I agree top prospects should be promoted sooner, but it seems super subjective. With Vladdy, it’s been easy for management to say that the bat is ready, but we want him getting his reps in at 3rd before coming up. Maybe the next contract would shorten the control teams have over players in the minors? Something like 3 years and then they have to be rostered or exposed to the Rule V draft?
  13. Could this debate between whether or not to burn a year of control be settled by negotiating a long term contract with him upon bringing him up? Would either side be comfortable with a 10 year 150mill offer?
  14. Oh yea for sure. That’s why I phrased it the way I did. I just mean that they’re all pretty decent to solid prospects that aren’t too far away. It’d be good if even 2-3 of them are ready to take that next step next season and be solid contributors.
  15. I’m okay with Jansen staying down for the year. Come up next year and learn from Martin before his contract is up. A perfect world would have him, Guerrero, Bichette, Pearson and SRF making the team next year. One can dream...
  16. I recall hearing something about him trying more of a sidearm delivery.
  17. So they really love Jansen. All about dem glasses!
  18. What would you define as a trade in this scenario that would guy the system, though? Do you think they’d ask for both Guerrero and Bichette in a 2 for 1? Or something like Bichette, Alford plus a couple more of our top 10?
  19. I think a deal revolving around Alford and Warmoth could work, but I think the 3rd piece needs to move the needle more for the Marlins to say yes. I’d say it would likely cost Pearson. They get one major league ready outfielder and two guys who could fly through the system with good upside. We get one of the friendliest contracts in baseball which allows us to add a solid player and still pursue a decent FA. Now if we could do the deal with Greene or SRF instead, I would seriously believe we have the best FO in baseball.
  20. I don’t know that it’s too much, but I think it’s the wrong combination of players. I think you move Osuna for multiple top prospects, not in a package for one star player. I’d rather look at something that included Bichette and Pearson + for Yelich and then move Osuna for 2-3 top prospects.
  21. I’m hoping we get something like that, too. It would mean the older guys can rotate through DH once in a while, too, while Diaz and Solarte can get plenty of playing time. I’d like to add someone like Cain to the outfield though. We haven’t spent much this offseason, so it’s doable. Cain, Pillar, Alford/Hernandez would be a pretty solid OF.
  22. So you’re thinking JD and one of Gurriel/Jansen/Pearson for Gyorko, Grichuk and a top prospect? If that prospect is Reyes, I can maybe get on board with that, though I think I’d try to keep Pearson out of that mix. Probably try to hold onto Jansen, too, unless we expand that trade to get Carson Kelly.
  23. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/heymans-latest-blue-jays-d-backs-cobb-lagares-castro.html Heyman saying the Jays still lurking in the JDM sweepstakes along with Cain. Have also contacted the Padres about Hand. Don’t see any of this happening, but I guess it sounds like a clear message that they’re still leaning towards going for it in 2018.
  24. Yeah that’s a farm system that probably won’t be able to start any sort of recovery until the end of the decade at the earliest if those two just end up walking. Just to add on to your previous post though, with those guys off the market, isn’t this the best time for the Jays to capitalize by trading Donaldson and Osuna? Cards may start getting desperate for a bat and there would be tons of teams lining up for Osuna now that Britton is going nowhere.
  25. Ha yeah, that’s the other reason why I wouldn’t waste my time talking with him.
