  1. So I'm guessing that's a joke, lol. But that's a reason why the Jays should pursue him. The Yanks can't because they need to reset their luxury tax penalties before going wild next year. Even the Dodgers don't want to go further into the luxury tax. In short, trade for Stanton and Gordon, Donaldson for Reyes, sign Otani. WS Champs 2018. All of Canada gets wasted.
  2. It's not the greatest package, I agree, but I don't think it gets laughed off either. How many teams can realistically take on that much salary in one go and actually need to do so to be competitive right now? The Jays are one. Maybe the Phillies and Braves? There won't be that many suitors they have to beat out. I'd switch one or two guys around a bit, but I wouldn't give up more top prospects. Bottom line, I don't think the player cost is high enough that it should scare the Jays away.
  3. Stanton and flip Donaldson to the Cards for Reyes. I love Donaldson but I want to see this team get younger and would prefer to get max value in a trade for him now.
  4. Wouldn't that be an improvement over Morales? Didn't he have a wrc under 100?i would also hope to see a little more offense from Martin if the legs are fresher. I do agree that we need a better DH though. I guess I'm operating under the assumption that we're likely signing short term vets in the offseason and would rather rotate guys like Martin, Tulo and Donaldson through DH than commit to Morales
  5. My hope has been that McGuire might be our backup next year with Martin sitting a game and DH'ing a game a week. Now that's also based on the assumption we can dump Morales on someone.
  6. I'd love some Gordon and Stanton in this lineup. I had mentioned going after both around the trade deadline and would still love to see a ballsy move like that now. It sounds like they want some major leaguers in addition to prospects. What could a package look like from the Jays? I was thinking Pillar, Travis and Biagini from the ML team with a few meh prospects like Pannone and Noda and one quality guy like Pearson. Losing Pearson would be the only painful move in that deal for the Jays. There's risk in there for the Marlins, too, but there's a lot of quantity in that deal with some interesting names.
  7. I'd love to see something around 5/125 that kicks in for 2018. I'm sure he wants more and someone may be willing to do it, but I think it's a fair deal for both sides if he actually wants to stay.
  8. Fair. That K rate is pretty bad. Guess I'm just a sucker for the Canadian prospects. I wouldn't be against the Jays holding on to a pitcher in a trade with the Cards and using the extra pieces plus a couple of our own prospects in a trade for an established outfielder or starting pitcher though. Sign one top pitcher or outfielder to a big contract and use guys acquired in a Donaldson trade to get the other piece without decimating our farm system.
  9. Maybe we take Rosenthal's expiring contract to get a better prospect in the deal? Don't think he makes that much to call it salary relief for the Cards though. Does he?
  10. STL needs a closer, too. Maybe Donaldson and Osuna for their top 5 prospects? One can dream... I wouldn't mind trying to get Reyes and O'Neill from the Cards though.
  11. I don't know that I agree with that last part. Getting payroll off the books and not using it for next year would be indicative of a team going into a rebuild and getting ready to plug in prospects as positions open up. If this team is seriously taking one more shot next year, then they'll have to get at least a mid rotation starter and a decent LFer. If they do that, they may have a shot at a WC spot even with a shaky middle infield, but it means payroll likely needs to be bumped up a bit.
  12. Just heard Morosi on the radio say it's 1 year 13mill with no option. Pretty good deal!
  13. Is that the Yankees at this point? I feel like they traded for a lot of extra bonus pool. I wonder if it'll come down to some sort of handshake agreement over a contract extension that gets it done. Considering even the biggest bonus is nothing compared to what he'd get in an open market, it may not factor much into his decision.
  14. Maybe we can convince the Rox to take him back. Eat half the contract and they can move him over to first. One can dream...
  15. At this point, you gotta think him and Bichette are starting next year in AA, right? I know the org doesn't want to rush them along, but they need to be challenged, too.
  16. Wouldn't a top 10-12 payroll be a step back though? We were fifth this year. I'd sign Donaldson if ownership committed an extra 10-15mill in payroll. That would put the Jays around 175-180million dollar payroll next year. You could keep Donaldson and still have enough flexibility to get a starter and maybe a veteran outfielder with some pop (maybe even Martinez if we can dump most of Morales' contract on someone)
  17. You joke but look at how it turned Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughan's career around!
  18. I think the career line does show that there is potential there, but I also believe he has taken a step forward this year and that realistically, his potential is somewhere between this year and his career so far. It seems small but the fact that he got glasses this year and then got hot for pretty much the entire year can't be a complete coincidence. If his vision was just slightly worse than 20/20, then that might've been the difference between seeing the spin on pitches and not seeing them. I'm not trying to hype this guy up as a future HOF'er or anything, but I do think there's a realistic chance he becomes an everyday guy that can contribute on both sides of the ball.
  19. Thanks for the heads up! Went and checked out his chat. I was about to post that prospect note, too. He also linked to a Sportsnet article that was posted today: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-danny-jansen-keeps-hitting-every-stop-whirlwind-season/ Interesting read. I got glasses around the age of 13 and it was an unbelievable difference on the diamond. Hopefully that was all he needed. Side note: Which baseball guys do people on here follow? I keep tabs on prospects throughout the org but want to broaden my horizons to other teams, as well. Thanks!
  20. I'd be more than happy with that! If Bichette and Guerrero can become studs at the MLB level, hopefully guys like Alford, Jansen and Gurriel can just become good everyday players. Wish I could say the same for our pitching prospects!
  21. Oh yeah for sure. Lots of top prospects flame out completely. I'd be ecstatic if he became an average starting catcher for dirt cheap. I've just been wondering if he's done enough this year to get some notice from writers and scouts.
  22. Fair point, but you gotta think a catching prospect that rakes at three different levels over a year and is still only 22 will start turning some heads in the industry.
  23. Any particular reason? One year not a big enough body of work? I know he's not considered one of our top 10 prospects on most lists, but looking at the guys that are, I'd put him right up there with Hernandez, at least, after the season he has had. Granted, I have no idea what his D behind the plate looks like. Still, I've wondered if he can scrape his way onto a few lists or at least some honourable mentions.
  24. So at 22 and coming back from shortened seasons to advance all the way to AAA, is Danny Jansen a lock to crack top 100 lists next spring or is he still flying under the radar?
  25. Looked into this more. New age to become a true free agent is now 25. He'd have to wait two more years if he wanted to sign with the highest bidder. I also found an article from CBS sports back in early July that quoted a MLB source as saying that the league is going to be monitoring the signing team carefully after the first year to see if an extension is signed that doesn't fall in line with typical extensions for second year players. Can't see the league really doing that though. Teams already break rules agreeing to bonuses with guys before the signing period begins. Can't see how a handshake agreement after the player makes the jump to the majors is any worse.
