  1. Helsley has such great north-south command of the zone
  2. He's had his ups and downs but Clase isn't fazed at all against MLB competition
  3. Francis is here less out of loyalty and more out of desperation. The pickings to replace him are incredibly thin and not guaranteed to be any better.
  4. The pen isn't super fresh right now. They could really use 5 innings from Francis.
  5. Regarding the pitching situation, barring a trade or signing this one seems easy to me. Swanson is back, with Sandlin and Garcia likely returning soon also. Fisher leads the entire team in xFIP. Schultz and Lauer have performed. Meanwhile, our rotation currently has 3 MLB calibre starters. Turnbull is still throwing 88 mph slop to minor leaguers. Between Turnbull Manoah and Scherzer, old man Scherzer is by far the closest which tells you everything you need to know. If Sandlin and Yimi come back, start stretching out one or both of Lauer and Yariel for major innings. They're really the only guys with a starter's repertoire. If Scherzer's arm holds up we can decide what to do with the 5th slot afterwards
  6. Putting on my strategy hat, run out Fisher or Urena for the bottom of the order, then ride Lauer for a while. Who knows what Atkins told Schneider to do though
  7. Clase and Lukes absolutely deserve PAs over Roden. Calling up Schneider to ride the bench and face some lefties would've made more sense to me.
  8. Clase is very raw but he's been taking some great swings for a couple weeks now
  9. When Hoffman isn't getting destroyed he is downright diabolical.
  10. Bo almost corkscrewed into the ground turning on that pitch
  11. Don't love that sac bunt in that situation
  12. Batting order has a very small impact on runs scored. Having a roster that can't hit is what we should be concerned about.
  13. Vlad destroyed that but that's way too low to be pimping out of the box
  14. Grumpy Buck is peak entertainment
  15. Scherzer is one of the most competitive psychopaths in baseball
  16. Scherzer is injured, old, and has exclusively been a starter for the better part of 2 decades. There is basically zero chance they ask him to transform his routine in the middle of a season like that. This is even without considering him pulling the veteran respect card.
  17. Your assessment of Vlad Jr. is accurate, but he is not comparable to Manny. While it appeared at times that Manny didn't even fully grasp the rules of baseball, at the plate he was one of the most cerebral and detail oriented hitters of all time. He had one of the most technically consistent right handed swings of all time. He may have been autistic. Vlad has altered his swing more in the past 5 years than Manny did in his entire career. The two are not comparable, for better or for worse. There's a lot of content on Manny out there, he's a fascinating figure.
  18. Looking at that list it's probably better that he doesn't sign more extensions.
