  1. As an art dealer, Paris might not be a bad place to live.
  2. I love the idea of the Expos coming into Toronto for three series (9 or 10 games) each season, and the Jays going to Montreal for three series (9 or 10 games.). Maybe every Canada Day too! (as the new Pearson Cup haha.) As a STH, at least one-third of my tickets would be against the Red Sox, Yankees & 'Spos. With the unbalanced schedule, Montreal's own attendance certainly should benefit from this.
  3. Two things on my baseball wish list for Toronto: Yes, a grass baseball-only authentic ballpark ... but i'm very patient about it being built eventually. And ... something that hopefully happens a lot earlier ... a MLB team put back in Montreal and placed in the A.L. East.
  4. I doubt that the Shapiro regime will last only the length of his initial contract with the Jays ... especially if it's true that his rapport with Edward Rogers is very good (unlike his predecessor's.)
  5. As one who attends the majority of games at Rogers Centre year in and year out, my view of Shapiro's ultimate Blue Jays legacy goes beyond the number of flags that go up during his presidency, but also certainly will be shaped by how he turns this multi-purpose (almost 30 years old) stadium into a better ballpark for baseball fans. And, I'm optimistic given his experience with renovations at Progressive Field.
  6. yeah, the way the awkward Atkins press conference played out, it sounds like Edward Rogers forced Shatkins' hand in bringing Bautista back...probably with the assurance that more funds (than initially budgeted) would be made available to the FO during the season.
  7. Shatkins needed clear instructions not to extend Smoak.
  8. if Carrera & Smoak get plenty of ABs, it'll be because Pearce isn't healthy and Shatkins gave Gibbons s***** choices.
  9. maybe they're bringing back Fergie Olver?
  10. Which of these two scenarios, do you think Shatkins would prefer for 2017: 1. The Jays are never really in contention for the AL East title, but they linger the whole season (say) 3 games back of the 2nd WC (and 5 games back of the 1st WC) going into the final 2 weeks. 2. The season goes south and the Jays are realistically out of the playoff mix come the trade deadline.
  11. that Thurs April 20 (12:37pm) Red Sox game is billed as "School Day" and so I imagine the joint will be jammed with kiddies.
  12. so what will be the lowest attended game of the season? contenders: Tues May 16 (4:07) vs Atlanta Mon May 29 vs Cinci Wed April 12 vs Milwaukee (or Thurs April 13 vs Baltimore) ... IF the Maple Leafs have a playoff game that night
  13. so is the system designed to sell the least desirable rows first, and you don't have a choice to select the actual best available tickets in the section you're seeking?
  14. Blown games and tough losses to start the season give them a reason to fire Gibbons early haha.
  15. ... that are on sale today? If so, which one? Wonder which of the 5 set options will be most popular?
  16. I'm sure $ is a big factor. But it's certainly odd to cancel it just 2 weeks out from when it was held last year. And (as you said) it was promoted in the STH renewal package ... plus my account rep told me a couple of weeks ago that a date for it would be announced soon ... and, with the overwhelming turnout for last year's event (the biggest one ever) ... with all that free food & drinks consumed .. how could they just suddenly realize that it's too expensive to hold again? haha
  17. And this. Almost half of the time is usually spent on general "STH experience" issues.
  18. This. I've attended them all since the annual event started during the Gord Ash era. ... I think the first one was held at AGO (edit: now that I dig deeper in my memory, I believe that it was at Roy Thompson Hall) but I remember Ash trying to sell STHs on his blockbuster Roger Clemens for David Wells-Graeme Lloyd-Homer Bush deal haha.
  19. This started when he quoted my post ("It'll be interesting to see what kind of reception Shapiro gets at the State of The Franchise in 6 short weeks") by replying "You really give a f*** about what a bunch of dumb bandwagon fans think about Shapiro."
  20. There's nothing for me to accept because I don't refute any of that. It's just nonsensical to call most season ticket holders "bandwagon" fans. And those are the folks who will be at the State of the Franchise (now called The Leadoff) in early Feb.
  21. season ticket holders are "bandwagon" fans? ... many of whom lay their money down year-after-year-after year regardless of whether the Jays are a hot ticket in town?
  22. it'll be interesting to see what kind of reception Shapiro gets at the State of the Franchise event (or whatever they call it now) in 6 short weeks time.
  23. why? as far as Edwin's concerned, there's a logjam at 1b/dh/slow-footed-benchwarmer when you include the man the front office felt the urgency to lock up for over $8 m.
