This sounds weird - but he's one of my all time favourite blue jay pitchers. I've always been a sucker for potential...and he was always oozing with it.

Brunt is heads and tails the best reporter/media personnel in Toronto. Jeff Blair must feel like I would if I walked into the hitting cage with Bautista.

Yeah. Morrow had more K's and less GB% - but I see it. Loved Morrow.

Cashner's been a 2.3-2.7 WAR player for 3 years now. He's solid, but he can't seem to shake the injuries and he's always a guy who leaves you wanting more...

The fan enjoyment - knowing Thole isn't on the team would far outweigh the actual WAR improvement. Enough of this talk about keeping Dickey/Thole on.

I think it very well could be as simple as they have lots of days off early on and won't actually use the 4th OFer much. Ceciliani plays fulltime in AAA until they start actually using the 4th OF more (or injuries). Tapera is bizarre, but again with all the days off early on, the bullpen won't be overused and he won't pitch much. That said (and maybe for that reason) - a second LOOGY makes a lot of sense. Even Randy Choate to face 1 batter until Loup returns provides more value than Tapera does.

And for comparison, the Cubs are going to have Solar and Baez (when healthy) on their bench.

I think he might have been suggesting Hutch in the rotation, Sanchez in the pen - Tepera in outer space.

Gibby can't use Loup properly as a LOOGY - there was no way he'd use Venditte only as a LOOGY.

That said - it must be devastating to work your ass off all offseason and all spring, only to watch a steaming pile of s*** get the job over you. I hope Ceciliani is head strong. I hope the FO had a very good conversation with him....explain that he's significantly better than Carrera and this is a just an "options" thing to help maintain organizational depth.

On average, the 4th OFer plays the equivalent of 162 full games a year - luckily we still have Ceciliani and Pompey if one of our OFers needs something more than a day off for rest. Carrera is s***, end of rant.

I agree with the risk. However, re: 2nd TJ surgeries....it didn't work out so well for Kyle Drabek, who's Sanchez has some similarities to. Beachy's had it twice - he's done, Jarrod Parker likely is too. Luebke is working his way back after his 2nd TJ - he might be effective as a reliever (although Pitt is releasing him I heard). I don't think you want to have it twice...Hudson took a long time to return FWIW.

I hear you - I just find the topic interesting. I wonder if the Jays acknowledge his timing sucks and whether they are trying to make improvements - or if they just say screw it, if he breaks down he breaks down...and is this approach different from team to team. Do some teams target pitchers with certain mechanics (which they believe are superior). I mean we're analysing the crap out of spin rates and such now and teams are doing a lot of research on what's causing arm injuries that I'm sure this is happening to some extent. Pitching is the most valuable position in baseball and the injuries are the most fascinating in all of sports, so you know there's people out there looking to break the code as there's extreme value and money to be had. Maybe it's all a little premature right now - which is why we don't hear much about it. Or maybe it's because in most comment sections, people are claiming Hutch should be on this team because he was 11-2 at home last year and thus is an asset to the Jays (and thus most coverage on this topic would fall on deaf ears).

I was on the "keep the blue seats" team until you showed that comparison...good ideas overall man.

Why doesn't anyone else talk about this? I understand the inverted W isn't a guarantee injury, but as you've pointed out, when you couple it with arm action and bad timing - it's a recipe for disaster. Does nobody talk about this because: 1. It's such an inexact science that most have concluded it's too difficult to predict - some pitchers simply only have so many bullets 2. I don't understand this, so let's ignore it.
