  1. I remember people saying the Yanks were going to get at much out of Headley for as the Red Sox get out of Pablo - at half the cost. They were right - they both suck nutz.
  2. Incorrect. Bourn was coming off a 6.2 WAR season when he signed with the Indians. That's better than Tulo's ever put up. Swisher average 3.9 WAR/year in the 3 years prior to signing with the Indians. Martin averaged 3.7 WAR prior to signing with the Jays. I love math.
  3. I have to admit I often feel this way. My only saving grace is my 5 year old son loves to watch it, so it's no longer killing time - it's bonding Thank god for Jays in 30 too.
  4. Skatkins is very familiar with 2 - Bourn & Swisher. Speaking of which, Bourn and Swisher would be two candidates for players who were on PEDs - landed the big contract and then stopped taking them (risk was no longer worth the reward).
  5. I was going to ask this guy if he could suggest which world renowned hitting guru - who's unemployed - that he thought we should replace Jacoby with. Then I answered my own question. Bobby Tewksbary! Leg kicks for everyone!
  6. It didn't seem to make sense last week - and the "old school" maroons were spouting off about how Goins is the everyday guy and you have to ride your everyday players. Hopefully Gibby has given into the reality that these 2 should be in a strict platoon.
  7. Cool. I'm not sure I buy he makes a tangible difference; however, our base running has been bad this year....fire [insert name of our first base coach]!
  8. Interesting enough - something tells me Dave Stewart would fail as a first base coach.
  9. What constitutes good first base coach skills? Is there some metric that tell us how quick each one yells "back"? The frequency they influence the umpires calls by motioning the runner was safe? First base coach has to be one of the best jobs in the world.
  10. He has a career wRC+ of 61. The boost he'd provide offensively if he was hitting at his career level is negligible. We're missing Travis and the backup infielder getting exposed as a ML regular is not the source of our issues.
  11. I don't understand some of you guys. IMO, we have 3 categories - guys hitting where they should, guys hitting better than they should and guys hitting worse then they should. Guys hitting where they should: Donaldson (slightly higher if anything) Bautista Smoak (although it's been an usual start) Pillar Goins (because we all knew he couldn't hit) Guys hitting better than expected: Saunders Zeke Barney Guys hitting worse than they should: Tulo Martin (who's playing hurt) Edwin We have 3 proven, veteran hitters who aren't hitting right now and this is Jacoby's fault? This is a whole new level of stupidity.
  12. How in the F do you think anyone can evaluate this? Can you even name another hitting coach in baseball (not named Bonds) without looking it up? Who is the Ray Searage of hitting coaches in MLB right now? This thread is stupid.
  13. So fire the useless twit.
  14. Because I think it can and should be better and I don't accept complacency. There's also a level of "fun" in quoting stupid things they say and then laughing at how stupid they are. That's true - but it's sad. I love listening to people debate and talk about baseball (hence why I'm here). It's discouraging that there's few, if any relevant conversations about baseball had on the air/TV.
  15. Blair and Barker are paid to host a show about baseball - and ONLY baseball. Last September they did a segment on Sanchez and the pitches he throws and how they rank each pitch. Barker said: 1. Fastball 2. Cutter 3. Curveball 4. Slider Blair said: 1. Fastball 2. Sinker 3. Slider 4. Breaking Ball Neither guys correctly named the 4 pitches that Sanchez throws, nor did the 2 twits even name the same 4 pitches when ranking them. I don't get how you don't get how pathetic that is. I expect competency, but perhaps my expectations are too high. I don't think it would kill them to study the sport, know their s*** and use facts every once in awhile when talking about baseball. I don't know why that's too much to ask. Like seriously, in the example above, it would take 30 seconds to pull up Sanchez's fangraph page, acknowledge the 4 pitches he actually throws, see which are most effective and then throw in their 2 cents based on their visual observations.
  16. I love how they ALWAYS point out when someone crosses up the shift. It's straight to the "see - that's why I HATE the shift" - you see right there, that 1 time out of 20 when the shift messed things up. Old school baseball is da best, need harder take out slides, must break legs, must pitch to contact, throw at ribs if you show emotion, there's no crying in baseball, analytics are ruining baseball, starters should go 9 every game and start 60 games a year, back in the day relievers threw 3 innings at a time and I hate change because I'm old. Sorry - I got a little off topic there, but I swear I hear this BS once during every broadcast. In fact, it's all I "hear" from these guys - it's like they sit there salivating at the opportunity to promote "old school" baseball. I've had to explain to my 5 year old son that Buck, Tabby and Zaun are idiots and to simply ignore them.
  17. Because people are the worst. It's incredibly annoying when these types of topics come up in a social circle of friends and people side on the "old school" mentality - but are then unable to support their opinions outside of the general "that's the way the game is played" nonsense. I'm introverted and generally don't like talking to people much...this is why.
  18. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/how-players-can-test-positive-for-peds-after-having-sex-204803160.html This is somewhat interesting. It's too bad Colabello didn't get caught with clostebol in his system. It would have generated so many Hazel Mae / Jackie Redmond jokes...
  19. I'm going to stick up for BB. He just say Edwin has been worse at the plate this year and provide nothing defensively. He's right. Everyone is all over Tulo offensively when Edwin has been just as bad. Both have excellent track records and I think both will turn it around - although both have shown signs of decline over the past couple of years. Edwin's contact rates are on a steady decline (contact % down, O-contact % down, SwStr% up).
  20. Yeah I'm the same - like once a season. I was listening to one of the late night shows last night and they took calls on the Jays and they basically did exactly what Wilner did - they hammered this moronic caller. It's like you have to be mentally handicapped to get on the show or something. It's shocking how stupid most fans are. I'm an avid fan and I haven't once in my life considered calling into a radio show. I don't understand why these fans who obviously don't follow baseball that much get the desire to call in.
  21. See I don't blame Wilner. The concept of a call in show is not the issue - it's not F'ing stupid the general public is.
  22. That's what we're "told"...someone call Jesse Ventura! I guess there's nothing to suggest it - and someone probably would have leaked it by now, but I can't help be curious if the organizations are "in" on some of this...
  23. It's so bad man - I still play hardball on a men's team, so the Jays is a regular conversation. I just tune it all out to avoid losing my mind. I also made the mistake of listening to Wilner and the post game show the other day. I know everyone hates Wilner, but I would quit my job if I had to take calls from the general public.
  24. Yeah no s***. It must be very challenging from an emotional aspect to know you dooped someone out of $50M and are receiving awards when you know your a dirty lying cheat. It must have been incredibly challenging to accept that award from Loria and look him in the eye - knowing the gig was up and he'd been caught. I'd cry too.
