  1. He has a career wRC+ of 61. The boost he'd provide offensively if he was hitting at his career level is negligible. We're missing Travis and the backup infielder getting exposed as a ML regular is not the source of our issues.
  2. I don't understand some of you guys. IMO, we have 3 categories - guys hitting where they should, guys hitting better than they should and guys hitting worse then they should. Guys hitting where they should: Donaldson (slightly higher if anything) Bautista Smoak (although it's been an usual start) Pillar Goins (because we all knew he couldn't hit) Guys hitting better than expected: Saunders Zeke Barney Guys hitting worse than they should: Tulo Martin (who's playing hurt) Edwin We have 3 proven, veteran hitters who aren't hitting right now and this is Jacoby's fault? This is a whole new level of stupidity.
  3. How in the F do you think anyone can evaluate this? Can you even name another hitting coach in baseball (not named Bonds) without looking it up? Who is the Ray Searage of hitting coaches in MLB right now? This thread is stupid.
  4. So fire the useless twit.
  5. Because I think it can and should be better and I don't accept complacency. There's also a level of "fun" in quoting stupid things they say and then laughing at how stupid they are. That's true - but it's sad. I love listening to people debate and talk about baseball (hence why I'm here). It's discouraging that there's few, if any relevant conversations about baseball had on the air/TV.
  6. Blair and Barker are paid to host a show about baseball - and ONLY baseball. Last September they did a segment on Sanchez and the pitches he throws and how they rank each pitch. Barker said: 1. Fastball 2. Cutter 3. Curveball 4. Slider Blair said: 1. Fastball 2. Sinker 3. Slider 4. Breaking Ball Neither guys correctly named the 4 pitches that Sanchez throws, nor did the 2 twits even name the same 4 pitches when ranking them. I don't get how you don't get how pathetic that is. I expect competency, but perhaps my expectations are too high. I don't think it would kill them to study the sport, know their s*** and use facts every once in awhile when talking about baseball. I don't know why that's too much to ask. Like seriously, in the example above, it would take 30 seconds to pull up Sanchez's fangraph page, acknowledge the 4 pitches he actually throws, see which are most effective and then throw in their 2 cents based on their visual observations.
  7. I love how they ALWAYS point out when someone crosses up the shift. It's straight to the "see - that's why I HATE the shift" - you see right there, that 1 time out of 20 when the shift messed things up. Old school baseball is da best, need harder take out slides, must break legs, must pitch to contact, throw at ribs if you show emotion, there's no crying in baseball, analytics are ruining baseball, starters should go 9 every game and start 60 games a year, back in the day relievers threw 3 innings at a time and I hate change because I'm old. Sorry - I got a little off topic there, but I swear I hear this BS once during every broadcast. In fact, it's all I "hear" from these guys - it's like they sit there salivating at the opportunity to promote "old school" baseball. I've had to explain to my 5 year old son that Buck, Tabby and Zaun are idiots and to simply ignore them.
  8. Because people are the worst. It's incredibly annoying when these types of topics come up in a social circle of friends and people side on the "old school" mentality - but are then unable to support their opinions outside of the general "that's the way the game is played" nonsense. I'm introverted and generally don't like talking to people much...this is why.
  9. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/how-players-can-test-positive-for-peds-after-having-sex-204803160.html This is somewhat interesting. It's too bad Colabello didn't get caught with clostebol in his system. It would have generated so many Hazel Mae / Jackie Redmond jokes...
  10. I'm going to stick up for BB. He just say Edwin has been worse at the plate this year and provide nothing defensively. He's right. Everyone is all over Tulo offensively when Edwin has been just as bad. Both have excellent track records and I think both will turn it around - although both have shown signs of decline over the past couple of years. Edwin's contact rates are on a steady decline (contact % down, O-contact % down, SwStr% up).
  11. Yeah I'm the same - like once a season. I was listening to one of the late night shows last night and they took calls on the Jays and they basically did exactly what Wilner did - they hammered this moronic caller. It's like you have to be mentally handicapped to get on the show or something. It's shocking how stupid most fans are. I'm an avid fan and I haven't once in my life considered calling into a radio show. I don't understand why these fans who obviously don't follow baseball that much get the desire to call in.
  12. See I don't blame Wilner. The concept of a call in show is not the issue - it's not F'ing stupid the general public is.
  13. That's what we're "told"...someone call Jesse Ventura! I guess there's nothing to suggest it - and someone probably would have leaked it by now, but I can't help be curious if the organizations are "in" on some of this...
  14. It's so bad man - I still play hardball on a men's team, so the Jays is a regular conversation. I just tune it all out to avoid losing my mind. I also made the mistake of listening to Wilner and the post game show the other day. I know everyone hates Wilner, but I would quit my job if I had to take calls from the general public.
  15. Yeah no s***. It must be very challenging from an emotional aspect to know you dooped someone out of $50M and are receiving awards when you know your a dirty lying cheat. It must have been incredibly challenging to accept that award from Loria and look him in the eye - knowing the gig was up and he'd been caught. I'd cry too.
  16. I F'ing hate Unions.
  17. Beat me to it as I decided to go off on another tangent. The question may be - do the clubs know which of their players are on PEDs already? Do they factor that risk in when they offer the contracts? I was telling someone the other day how the teams always seem to come out of this without any negative press. Nobody is questioning whether the Jays knew Colabello was on PEDs - even when there's a possibility they knew (and chose to do nothing) - or even that they were INVOLVED in it. Nobody talks about that side of it - but that would certainly cloud the possibility of giving the team an "opt out" clause.
  18. Could we see a day where there's a clause in contracts that gives the team the opportunity to terminate the contract if the player fails a drug test? Wouldn't that solve the problem? I'm fascinated by this type of thing. How much effort do teams put into knowing whether their players are clean or not? That answer would obviously be very different when you look at Colabello (why would the Jays care? He gives them 1 great year when nothing was ever expected and now he's done) vs. the Marlins who just committed $50 to Dee Gordon. How many players take PEDs until they land that big contract that sets them for life - and then go off them (knowing the risk is no longer worth the reward), how many stay on them because they are greedy and want to be the "best"? It's a shame we'll probably never know much of the details.
  19. WTF? Did Shatkins say they only think Edwin will get 2 years on the open market? I never heard that. Regardless, the answer would be - Adrian Beltre just signed for 2 years $36M and he's way better than EE. Papi only signs 1 year deals and he's as good as EE.
  20. Um - that wasn't a routine grounder. It was old man Rollins deep in the hole with a jump throw. Good point - he should probably never try again because he might get hurt.
  21. You suggested it's all Atkin's fault, without acknowledging or knowing how much pull or weight Gibby's opinion has. You have no insight on the situation or the relationship. It's all an assumption. For all we know, Gibby walked into Atkin's office and said "I'm not bringing that ambidextrous piece of s*** into another game. He'll rot in the bullpen, or you can bring me up the next marginal talent in line and we'll hope he sticks". Pitchers don't throw pitches called from the catcher unless they believe in them and managers won't use players on the roster if they don't believe in them - it's human nature. Gibby and Atkins should be having discussions in this regard regularly. It's a little different when you're managing top prospects, Super 2 status and options (where the manager's opinion will be bias) - but that isn't the case here as we're talking s*** in, s*** out. You can argue it's Atkin's job to make Gibby realise that Venditte is slightly better than Tepera and to stick with him....but you have to pick your battles when managing people. The reality is - they both suck. Move on. Nobody is to blame because the last guy in our bullpen sucks b/c that's true for almost every single team in baseball. Overall - I'm tired of seeing people blame individual players or the FO. There are infinite variables in play that we have no f***ing clue about and as Spanky pointed out - this is baseball, it's a roller coaster ride of peaks and valleys over a very long season. It's like some of you love being in rocking chairs - complain, complain, complain even when you know it won't get you anywhere.
  22. You literally have no f***ing idea how this process works. Zero, nada. Stop cluttering the board with your assumptions.
  23. Candidate for worst post of the year...
