  1. You mean because the kids are completely white? haha. Definitely looks like Carew got the insta-family (and good for him, the wife is pretty hot).
  2. I think SD is THE best city is America (errr it was voted that or something). I definitely want to go to California for a trip to see SF and SD (not really interested in LA)
  3. Pretty embarrassing that he was to come out and throw out a pitch, but the umps call the coaches out to exchange game cards and he's left standing on the mound - only to simply leave the ball on the mound and walk off....
  4. Do you hate the game itself? or just the break associated with it? I still love the all-star game. With the advancements in TV, we obviously are much more exposed to all the great players - but there's something mythical about the all-star game and the history surrounding it that makes me feel like a kid again.
  5. That happens naturally with the "keeping up with the Jones' effect". However, the stupid ones who fall into this trap usually go broke pretty quick...
  6. Baseball teams should run their businesses like farmers do. You don't get too high (or spend like a drunken sailor) during the good times and you don't get too low during the bad times. Even keel.
  7. Grilli was also working his way back from injury. Joba just sucks.
  8. Read the rest of the posts to get the context man. The guys suggests Sanchez is going to the pen - then tells us they need to address the big hole in the bullpen. I'm not advocating Sanchez to the pen. His flat arm mechanics mean there's a high chance his arm blows out at some point. I'm not convinced restricting innings is going to change that. This is a good for broke year - so go for it.
  9. Last time I looked - Jason Grilli wasn't on the team last year.
  10. Daaaa - wouldn't Sanchez in the pen fill that hole?
  11. If pitchers are unavailable to pitch, do they get replaced...or do they just not use them??
  12. I'm in your camp on this one - all the way down to how it's a pain to have to walk to the other side of the dome to enter...haha
  13. ^this. There's really no other debate unless he's willing to sign a 2 year deal at a massive discount - or wants 1 year guaranteed with club options or something.
  14. Chipper and Beltre will help balance it out a bit soon. Longoria eventually.
  15. Miggy falls into the Frank Thomas / Manny category....some of the best hitters of all time (not best players of all time). Pujols could play great defense and run the bases back in his prime. Speaking of which - is Manny a HOFer? or does he fall into the suspected roid user - blackballed category?
  16. Debatable how old Pujols really is. Based on current results - he looks like he's going on 45.
  17. You're correct it's happened before; however, citing Andruw Jones as your example is awful sir. He hit .300 once in his career as a 23 year old.
  18. It's ridiculous that Corey Seager isn't starting the All-star game. Also - remember when Puig could hit? What happened? injuries? [Mod note: The first few posts were curated from a couple loose threads and Around Baseball] All-Star Game rosters: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2016/roster/ 2015 thread: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/5041-ASG-Thread Uniforms preview: http://news.sportslogos.net/2016/04/13/mlb-unveils-300-new-looks-as-2016-specialty-uniforms-released/
  19. I absolutely love watching Tulo mash. With EE and Bats gone at the end of the year - we're going to need him to be the 130+ wRC+ hitter in the middle of this order. I acknowledge the risk of $90M in a 32 year old player - but I'm not sure we're going to have the luxury of trading his bat out of the lineup (assuming it's primarily a salary dump). No idea what's going to happen - but in the meantime, I'm going to simply sit back and enjoy this beautiful baseball player.
  20. I absolutely love Jason Grilli. He's a beauty. A free beauty!
  21. Correct - my bad. There's probably some truth to what you're saying. So many variables. I've given up trying to compare - I simply love baseball BECAUSE of it's history and all the quirks in it. Ruth and Gerhig - and the folklore surrounding them is simply amazing and I see no need to try and compare them to Mike Trout.
  22. POTY Candidate? TOTY Candidate?
  23. I just threw up in my mouth a little.
  24. Incredibly difficult subject to discuss - yet such an amazing debate. One factor I don't see mentioned yet is there were only 8 teams. Yes there was a smaller talent pool (no black player or players from other countries) - but there were significantly fewer player and thus only the best played. Think about how much better teams would be today if there were only 20-25 teams. Ruth his more HR's in a season than any other TEAM did - twice. Back in the day Wrigley Field didn't even have a fence to hit HR's over. Fans were holding a rope, which they would move in when the Cubs were up and move back when the visiting team came to the plate. CF in a lot of parks was 450+ feet. The history of baseball is a beautiful thing.
