  1. It's all about cost. If you can get Gordon for nothing and have KC eat some of the remaining money - then I'd look at that over what it would cost to acquire McCutchen. Would your rather have Gordon for 3 years $45M or a platoon bat like Reddick at 4 years $52M?. I'm just tossing around ideas. Gordon's a lefty who doesn't need a platoon partner, high BB% who could hit at the top of the lineup (if he rebounds). BTW - Puig is a very unique option. I'd certainly take a hard look at him to see what he would cost.
  2. If Fowler costs 5/120, I think I'd prefer Cespedes (who I expect to get 5/125). I think Fowler ends up closer to 4/90 - in which case I prefer him to EE quite a bit... To be honest - I kind of hate all the FA's. There's such a high probability that these contracts suck and the players immediately start declining. We already have the burden of Martin and Tulo. I'm not sure this is the time to pile on!
  3. I wonder what Alex Gordon would cost. He's coming off a horrible year and would be due $60M over 3 years (for is age 33, 34 + 35 seasons). With both his defense and base running in decline, we've likely seen the end of his 4-6 WAR seasons, but he still could bounce back and be a very solid player. I wonder if KC views him as a negative asset at this point. Could you get them to eat say $15M and give up next to nothing for him? To be honest - looking at Gordon's decline might be a cautionary tail against signing Dexter Fowler...
  4. I tend to agree. You give up a draft pick for Fowler, but you'd get one back from letting EE go. He's a top of the order switch hitter with some pop, good base runner, good approach at the plate. He won't repeat the BsR value he posted last year - and it will drop over the next 4/5 years, but he's been a 120 wRC+ hitter for awhile now and his versatile game means his floor should be pretty high. There's a chance that if you put Fowler in RF, his defensive value spikes like it did went the White Sox put Eaton in RF. Fowler + Pillar + LF is going to be a really good defensive outfield. He's basically exactly the type of player the FO said they wanted to add when this offseason started. I call comes down to price. I'm don't love giving Fowler a 5th year or more than $20M AAV.
  5. Oh f*** I just threw up
  6. Doesn't pass the eye test for me. This does however. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lOUeUMPaI4
  7. Apparently my sarcasm meter only activates at the fourth layer. Glad we've got that calibrated.
  8. Pagan holds his own vs. LHP too...he doesn't need a platoon partner, although at his age, it might not be a bad idea. We need 2 OFers....so curious to see what Shatkin's does.
  9. Man this kinda s*** is obnoxious
  10. Appears he is horrid defensively
  11. Good call. He'll be missed. Unlike few in the game...the hitters knew what Cecil was throwing and they still couldn't hit it. Filthy curve.
  12. Then who plays CF? Cutch can't anymore
  13. Get Ruby and Corbin. Pen would be awesome
  14. What would Dozier cost? Owed only $15M over the next 2 years. Shift Travis to LF
  15. Didn't his previous WAR value come primarily from solid defense at 3rd? He's now just a league average bat without strong platoon splits who we'd stick at 1st base. He'd probably be better than Smoak, but not a great target, especially if he'd cost $8M.
  16. Morales can play 1st guys...Maybe not for 162 games, but enough to give JD and Tulo a break now and then and during interleague play
  17. Well thank god - I was thinking to myself....why? don't we have better ways to measure this now with Statcast....
  18. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=dh&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2016&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=17,d 5th in wRC+ over the past 2 years - tied with Carlos Santana and 2 points from Carlos Beltran for 4th. Ortiz is gone now, so you could say he's currently the 3rd or 4th best hitting DH in baseball.
  19. I guess I'm just looking at the guys they signed as FA's. Fielder, Upton, Zimmerman, Nathan and V-Mart are all terrible and I suspect they'll soon regret that Miggy deal. You say Sanchez worked out fine...he gave them one GREAT year, one very good year and now he looks like he's done. 3 of the 5 years will be lost in that deal + he has a $5M buyout on his option year. I don't think their spending has been the reason they won 4 straight division titles (you could argue that signing/keeping their good young players was a key factor, as was stumbling upon JD Martinez, somehow getting Kinsler for Fielder, etc.). It certainly appears their heavy spending may be the reason they struggle to win for the next decade.
  20. Directly from the depths of his ass.
  21. Because spending like drunken sailor isn't' a recipe for success. We don't want to become the Tigers and Angels.
  22. Nick Markakis? Wtf is wrong with you people? We'd be better off handing the job to Pompey
  23. I'm fairly sure he doesn't.
