  1. Pujols was done being an elite bat like 3 years ago.
  2. fify - it's easier on your health if you look at it this way.
  3. I was going to post something along these lines. If you thought the way we were built would create a sustainable winner - you need to remove the rose coloured glasses. We're like Detroit right now. We might be able to patch it up and hang on for another year, maybe not. But long term, we're screwed unless we start to make some changes.
  4. Look bud - it's widely accepted that the vast majority of fans (STH, die hards or bangwagon fans) have absolutely NO f***ING IDEA how to construct a winning baseball team. Making decisions based on what will please the fans is the first step to failure. David Price is a great example. Many "fans" were pissed right off that the Jays didn't even offer Price a contract and complained when he signed with the Red Sox. Then they watched him start off slow and stopped complaining. The pendulum has swung so far that I've heard multiple people quote his high ERA and suggest the Jays dodged a bullet with that contract - suggesting he's already declining. They have no idea he was just a little unlucky last year and was still the stud he's always been. Bottom line - fans are typically stupid. Accept it.
  5. BAM - spot on. Are Angel fans packing the stadium because they signed Pujols and Josh Hamilton long term?
  6. AA also took Deck McGuire over Sanchez/Syndergaard in that draft (and instead of Chris Sale and Christian Yelich). That said - AA did a great job of rebuilding the farm system (and taking advantage of loop holes in the CBA). A few of the guys doing all the dirty work for AA are still with the team (Tinnish included), so it will be fun to see what Shatkins can do over the next few years.
  7. You really give a f*** about what a bunch of dumb bandwagon fans think about Shapiro?
  8. This looks like a thread on reddit. So much f***ing stupid.
  9. So you can't fault Edwin and his agent for mis-reading the market - but you will criticize the Jays FO?
  10. Is it fair to criticize this? How often would you expect a GM/FO to correctly gauge the market? This might be as much as the FO establishing a reputation of not playing games, sticking to their guns and making decisive moves based on their internal evaluations. They offered EE a very good contract and gave him an ultimatum. He decided to play games and lost. If they stick to their guns then the next guy might think twice about calling their bluff.
  11. Are you picking on my English?
  12. Well that went way over your head...
  13. 25 lbs of muscle baby. Hopefully Greene adds 30 lbs of muscle and rockets up the prospect list!
  14. Spending extra money on overpriced seed, which may or may not product higher yield (as factors such as weather significantly affect yield more than the seed) may hurt you in the long run. Also - buying the fancy combine (which will take you 4-5 years to pay off) may also backfire if you're seeder breaks down. I think it all depends what you spend it on (doesn't it always?). I'm all for the Jays spending more - as long as they are smart with it. Don't just spend to say you spent.
  15. BBBB is still banned yet they let you out of your pen? BBBB drives me nuts, but wtf?
  16. IMO that would be like a farmer going out and buying a bunch of brand new equipment after a record year. It's a pretty short-sighted business approach. I expect a mild increase in payroll, but I don't think you drive an extra $60M into the team simply because you were success in 2 of the past 20 years.
  17. If only it was 2007 (when the world was much less politically correct) - I could fify. These days - I'll just keep my yap shut.
  18. It's his new gig.
  19. He's happy because he doesn't want EE at 4 years $80M. I thought that was pretty obvious. It appears nobody else in baseball does either, so it's not an uncommon opinion. High AAV + long duration for an aging player is risky business. Most are much more comfortable with Jose on a 1 year deal (some with a 2 year deal).
  20. I meant women (and politicians) like to play stupid psychological games...
  21. I'm all over it. Grilli gets extra points from me for his impeccable dad bod. http://i.imgur.com/XG5VKFU.gif
  22. Note to Edwin's agent. Don't play f***ing games. We aren't women or politicians, we're a major league baseball team and we have no time for your nonsense.
  23. There's a story on the Score app "6 bold trades we want to see this offseason" It suggests McCutchen to Toronto - noting they may have to give up major-league, long-term controllable pieces like Dalton Pompey and Joe Biagini. Where the F do we sign up for that? It also suggests Profar for Puig....which actually makes a lot of sense. Odd article.
  24. Interesting - although I suspect Pittsburgh could create a package based around Glasnow and a couple lesser prospects to land Quintana, while dealing McCutchen separately for a better haul.
