  1. A lot more players would accumulate SB numbers if their managers allowed them to run freely while being caught 33% of the time. Vlady stole 181 and was caught 94 time. He was a terrible base runner and it would be very short sighted to factor in the number of SB's he had without acknowledging he probably shouldn't have been attempting most of them.
  2. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=14697&position=P Did his fastball velocity really jump from 89.2 to 93.5 last year? wow. Holy extreme flyball pitcher too!
  3. CJ Cron suxxxxxxxx. Valbeuna's going to play 1st most of the time.
  4. NNNOOOOOOOOO. ffs.
  5. Deeper than our bullpen depth?
  6. I hate the look of the blue undershirts with the red jersey. Hopefully they at least get red undershirts
  7. Whoever it is that lives beside Heyman should go over and punch him in the face.
  8. What's with this new trend? It's bizarre. Next he'll get $150K in bonuses if the Jays sell 4M hot dogs in a season.
  9. That's Phillip Humber. I can see why they wouldn't want to list his name.
  10. Yeah - we complained a few days ago that it's a f***ing joke that Vlady is going to get in on the first ballot while Walker and Edgar won't (let alone Clemens, Bonds, etc.).
  11. Guys like AJ Pollack, Carlos Gomez and Lorenzo Cain have already had peaks higher than David Ortiz. The only thing I can say about Ortiz is he's had a pretty big impact on the game (couple of WS with the Red Sox after 100 year drought, DR influence....f***, I don't know).
  12. Except Vlady probably should have DH'd for most of his career because he was f***ing horrific in the field. Edger > Vlady all day long bud. Get your weird eye checked.
  13. um...I think you nailed it. They appear to be plugging holes with short term deals until some of the prospects are ready to contribute. If they are able to sign Valbeuna or Moss and maybe a bullpen arm or two, then with the advancement of Stro, Sanchez, Travis, etc. and a full season of Liriano, there's a chance this team is better than last years.....all while stockpiling prospects and without handcuffing the budget long term.
  14. Edgar Martinez starts his career late, has a season cut short by the strike, finishes with 10+ more WAR over his career, while being a significantly better hitter (and even a better base runner) and doesn't get in over Vlady? Utter. f***ing. stupidity.
  15. Stupid question - Are you allowed to bring bottled of water in? I thought there was concern you'd chuck it on the field or something (not that you couldn't do that with the can of beer or whatever you buy once you're in there. Maybe I'm mixing this up with the airport, where they assume you're bottle of water is going to explode.
  16. My point was we could have signed a better backup catcher years ago and let him catch Dickey...someone capable of starting more games to keep Russell fresh and as insurance in case of injury (in response to the "finally - we don't need to carry Thole anymore and can finally sign a solid backup catcher" movement).
  17. I'm curious to see how things work out in Atlanta with whoever catches Dickey. It's either going to work out and I'll be pissed that we carried Thole all these years for no reason - or it's going to be a failure and AA/Shatkins is going to look smart. I'm shocked Atlanta hasn't signed Thole to a minor league deal yet.
  18. So you want more Smoak do ya???
  19. For f*** sakes we're about a year away from having self driving cars....Surely to god there's way to actually measure bat speed, length of swing and time (or distance) in the "hitting zone" so we don't have to rely on 60 year old people and their eyes?
  20. Moss ticks a lot of boxes for us....but I find it hard to get on-board with another player with a K% in the upper twenties. Maybe contact is a new fad or something, but I'd rather see us mix in another hitter who doesn't strikeout so much...
  21. The good news is Shapiro suggested he'll be looking for the best value ($$/WAR) on the market, regardless of position. That screams Valbeuna/Moss to me over a backup catcher or almost any reliever.
  22. JaysFan4Ever - you need to break up that text. It's daunting to read man.
  23. It appears we can't attract any of the solid backups because nobody wants to sit behind Russell (when there are other opportunities to play more throughout the league). The remaining backup catchers are f***ing hot garbage and likely don't offer much more upside than Jimenez (besides they have more experience). IMO, if we're going to "upgrade" our backup catcher, we're best to do that via trade. Christ maybe we can pull a miracle and trade Smoak for some 3rd catcher with a hint of upside. Valbeuna + a reliever + Bud Norris on a minor league deal and it will be one hell of an offseason IMO.
