  1. Shortening your swing can reduce exit velocity and thus power... Anyone know what Smoak's exit velocity was last year?
  2. I'm on board with Hernandez at the right price. He bounced back in a big way last year. He threw a slider (errr maybe a cutter) last year almost 25% of the time after almost exclusively throwing fastball/curveball only for the past 6 years. It certainly gives hope that his strong performance last year is sustainable. Either way, he's someone I've always liked.
  3. Veteran part-time players are going cheap y'all!
  4. Siegrist is a FB pitcher too... But all those mentioned are great options to bring in. Krol + Siegrist on minor league deals (ideally) with Oh and Uehara on 1 year, low cost major league deals.
  5. Why the f*** would you hope that? God damn sadist
  6. + Correa, Bregman, Marte + Paulino are all under 24 (with McCullers just missing that group by 3 months).
  7. Yep. They also moved Eloy for Quintana (which is the pitching equivalent to trading Bo++ for Yelich)
  8. Alford's probably at 103.
  9. They do. Atkins already said in an interview that their analytics department values him higher than others in the industry (I'm massively paraphrasing). He has massive power and a good swing plane. He's got the talent - we'll see if he can tap into it here in TO.
  10. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/scouting-the-talented-frustrating-conner-greene/
  11. Me and the fam got to sign the wall today. It was very well done. Re: drugs - what I read said the drugs and amounts found in his body were consistent with sleeping pills for insomnia. I don't know Jack about flying but it seems reasonable to take sleeping pills to sleep and then go about your life the next day. Did others read otherwise re: amounts? Edit - you know what. I don't care. I'm going to choose to remember the good. Doc is a f***ing legend. Don't let some partial information skew that guys. RIP Doc. We love ya
  12. WTF? I need drugs to read your posts
  13. Hazel and Barker were there too. My kids played with theirs in the ball out. I think i lost brain cells standing beside Barker for 5 minutes.
  14. Huh? how much do we think Garcia's going to get?
  15. We've talked about Grichuk before - but didn't he have a lingering thumb injury or something last year that hampered his offense? As he proved in 2016, he only needs to post a wRC+ of 100-110 to be a valuable starting OFer. At age 26, we can certainly hope the best is yet to come.
  16. I doubt even Leone's mom believes he'll repeat the success he had last year...
  17. That's my take too. Carrera sticks as the LH OF option. Teoscar starts in AAA. Take the remaining money and sign Lynn + a bullpen flyer.
  18. Reports now say that Boston offer to JD Martinez is 5 years $125M
  19. Someone like Adam Lind is an ideal fit for DH IMO. He's a platoon bat who's thrives vs. RHP. That gives you flexibility platoon him and rotate your top regular players through the DH vs. LHP. He's also serviceable enough to play 1st to give your starter a day off and can come off the bench and provide some power late in games (on days he doesn't start). I'm not a huge fan of the full time DH.
  20. Again, Benoit, Grilli and Storen had multiple and recent 1+ WAR seasons when they came to the Jays (Liriano had multiple, recent 3+ WAR seasons). Alburquerque's only ever had 1 and it was way back in 2011. Even while throwing hard and striking guys out, he was a 0.1 - 0.3 WAR pitcher between 2013 and 2015. He falls into the Leone, Gavin Floyd, Franklin Morales category, with a massive probability of being released in Spring Training. He's an arm and sometimes you find lightning in a bottle (ala Leone).
  21. Why can't he do both? Implement changes to improve the pace of the game and reduce the total game time, while also finding ways to market the stars better. There isn't an "easy" button he can just push to fix everything. It's going to be a cumulative effect. I also wonder if the understanding of concussions is going to help push more and more kids towards baseball (and probably basketball) vs. football.
  22. Benoit was 1 year removed from back to back 1.3 + 1.4 WAR seasons. Alburquerque hasn't really been good since his rookie year in 2011 guys. He ate some innings between 2013 and 2015. But he throws hard and misses bats. There's a very outside chance he's this year's Dom Leone.
  23. I thought there were studies suggesting fewer injuries the faster pitchers worked (although typing that - it sounds really arbitrary).
  24. I don't buy that. I LOVE baseball. I'm old and still play competitive hardball 2-3 times a week, I coach 2 of my son's teams and volunteer on the executive of minor baseball. I would love to see improvements to the pace of play. There's enough strategy and drama in a 2 1/2 - 3 hour game. There's very little added to the experience when you drag it out to 4 hours in the playoffs. As for Manfred - I really like the new takeout slide rules.
