    He was worth 1.4 WAR in 2016 despite a good wRC+ of 122. 2 years later, as a DH, his upside might be 1 WAR. We already have a log jam and there's probably a better chance that Pearce bounces back than there is that Jose does. Flexibility at DH for Pearce, Grandy + a rotation of our regulars would be amazing. There's no way we'd block that to "see" if Jose could give use 1 WAR.

    How will this effect WAR/$ projections? I suspect teams have curves they use to evaluate player value. I wonder if any predicted this apparent downturn in FA value.

    Athletics acquired LHP Ryan Buchter, 1B/OF Brandon Moss and cash from the Royals for RHPs Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer. Why would the A's give up Hahn for that s***? He was worth 1.3 WAR in 69 innings last year.

    I don't really disagree. Alonso is best utilized in a platoon. You could use him and Santana at 1st, with Santana also playing some OF. Santana would also provide some insurance encase the league adjusts to the "new" Alonso. Phillips would also be a fit. OT - what's with the huge K% from Brewers outfielders/prospects? Santana, Broxton, Phillips, Harrison, Diaz...even Brinson. They all strike out a ton!
