  1. Guys - Grant is right. Give up.
  2. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-managers-perspective-john-gibbons-on-his-long-crazy-career/ Interesting read. This is my favourite quote: “There are players who come along that you know could manage someday. Mark DeRosa could manage in the big leagues. J.P. Arencibia. Scotty Rolen. That wasn’t his desire, but I always thought he could do it. David Eckstein. There are a few guys. Here in this room… Russell Martin. If Russell ever had that desire, he’d be a helluva big-league manager."
  3. Nick Markakis is 769 hits away from 3,000. If he averages 154 hits over the next 5 years (and plays until he's 40), he'll officially be the worst hitter ever to collect 3,000 hits (although Ichiro's career wRC+ is below Nick's).
  4. f*** off Grant. ****.
  5. and by this you mean 1 start...his first one vs. Tampa. Holy f***. I'm out. Can't do this. No idea why I even tried.
  6. Don't be such an *******. I'll fix his statement hopefully we can get the point through your thick skull. "Sanchez wasn't very good in 2015, his first extended time pitching in the majors - especially in the 11 starts he made where he posted a 5.21 FIP (4.64 xFIP), along with a 5.73 K% / 5.05 BB% ratio. When you couple that with the poor results of the 27 starts he's made in 2017 and 2018 (which includes a BB% of almost 5) - its looking more and more like 2016 was an outlier year for him"
  7. Geez, I wonder if he means his first full season in the majors where he was given the opportunity to start 11 games and was s***.
  8. Holy f***. You literally bring this up every time his name is mentioned.
  9. Wasn't this in response to a big bat flip by the opponent earlier in the series (or in that game?). Someone showed me it, but I can't find the video online now. One of the Baycats players follows the guy the whole way home from 3rd base chirping the piss out of him.
  10. I absolutely hate how 16 teams make the NBA and NHL playoffs. The regular season means next to nothing. Only the truly horrid teams miss the playoffs.
  11. David Wright (shoulder) will be activated on September 25 for the Mets' final homestand of the year. Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon made that announcement at a press conference Thursday afternoon at Citi Field. Wright will be available off the bench for a three-game set against the Braves and is slated for a start at third base on September 29 against the Marlins, the second-to-last day of the regular season. Wright hasn't played in a major league game since May 27, 2016 due to serious neck, shoulder, and back injuries. He is expected to retire this winter. For a stretch there - David Wright was my favourite player. It has been difficult to watch his HOF career be derailed by a chronic and debilitating back injury. I hope to catch some of his final games, while donning my knockoff Mets pinstripe Wright jersey. It will forever hang in my closet (probably never to be worn again) next to my prized Doc Halladay and s***** Lawrie jerseys.
  12. Ouch.
  13. I blame Doc. All our young pitchers grew up watching the master and think they can replicate his success with the sinker. They can't (and it's a different era) - throw the 4 seamer while hitters are still trying to lift the baseball.
  14. deGrom is not winning the NL MVP, but you're right - it's going to be a tight race with lots of players getting votes. Javy Baez is going to get some votes. Goldy might if they sneak into the playoffs. Arenado and Story will get votes. Carpenter will get votes. I'm not sure Yelich and Cain will - even though they currently have the highest WAR in the NL (for position players). It must be nice for their GM to look at that WAR leader board an see those 2 at #8 and #9 in the majors though. You also know JD Martinez is going to get more votes than Trout. He probably wins AL MVP...
  15. I would be pissed if the Jays were in Tampa's position right now. 14 games over .500, projected to win 89 games.....and 8.5 games out of a wild card spot. That's brutal. Good on TB for having a great season. Just the wrong year to have such a good one.
  16. That is kind of irrelevant...
  17. Guys - don't feed the troll please.
  18. Nice little write up on Tellez here. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-swiftly-mounting-legend-of-rowdy-tellez/
  19. This is a great question. I think there's a very strong chance that 2016 was an outliner and he'll never come close to replicating that type of success ever again (which is what his minor league #'s + his 2015, 2017 and 2018 results suggest). That said, I like that he's developed the change up. If he could ever make the necessary adjustments to improve his control/command, I think he could be a very successful starter with his current repertoire (provided he is able to throw the curve as much as he wants to). If you were strongly convinced that he'd be a shutdown reliever - then I'd probably elect to go that route, but I personally am not convinced he would be. Unfortunately - I think there's a strong possibility that Sanchez will fail in whatever role he's put in next year and Shatkins will take a lot of unnecessary heat next year because of it. This reminds me all too much of Biagini - and like Biagini, all of this is built on what was probably a fluky outliner 2016 season.
  20. What a stupid thing to say.
  21. He was AA's favourite prospect in 2011.
  22. This. The days of s***** hitters like Ben Revere hitting lead off are gone (thankfully)
  23. Austin Meadows is up to a 223 wRC+ in 106 PA's in Tampa's AAA team. It's not BABIP inflated and his ISO is .427 with a 12.3% K rate
  24. From 1914-1919, Babe Ruth faced 4,749 batters and allowed nine home runs. He came to the plate 1,332 times and hit 49 home runs.
  25. Terrance Gore got his first ML hit...in his 53rd MLB game. He's now 1-13 with 15 runs scored and 23 SBs.
