  1. The Athletic's Bob McGinn believes Packers coach Matt LaFleur has "simply had enough of (Aaron) Rodgers’ act and wanted to change the narrative" with the team's selection of Utah State QB Jordan Love. McGinn, of course, is Mr. Packers, having covered the team for decades. It is important to emphasize this is merely his opinion, but it is notable nonetheless. In his own words, McGinn now believes the Packers have "leverage with their imperial quarterback and his passive-aggressive style." The Packers are not only thinking toward the future, but a more run-heavy one. This could get publicly ugly and bitter in a hurry, though there is still every reason to believe Rodgers will remain in Titletown for 2020.
  2. The Packers draft was so bizarre. If they think Love is special, then I'm fine with that pick, but Dillon in the 2nd seemed unnecessary and they draft an undersized TE who may be an H-back or fullback in the NFL in the 3rd? They really needed another WR. Probably someone with speed to take the top off. I was just reading that the Bengels expect Tee Higgins to start and with A.J. Green and T.Boyd already there that John Ross is being shopped via trade. He's been hurt a lot, but was on pace for a 1,000 yard season last year (when he played). He still has those 4.22 wheels and think he'd be a great target for the Packers to add. Adams, Ross, Funchess, MVS, Lazzard would be solid enough to work with.
  3. Gonzales had been playing SS this year, but it does sound like it's a given he's a 2nd baseman. If that's the case, than much like Tork, you better LOVE the bat as there's no fall back value defensively. Like Glory said, if he's a SS, who they think will have to move to 2nd, 3rd (or even CF) then those options are a lot more enticing. There just isn't a lot of track record of 1st or 2nd basemen going top 5 in the draft. It makes me pause. Maybe you could argue Gonzalez is like Anthony Rendon? Spank - I'm with you. I want Veen, although there's obviously also risk with high school kids too. I was just curious what people thought about the risks of certain types of players.
  4. How much weight do you guys put in the risk of drafting a pitcher - or even a second baseman at the 5th spot? I mean this a draft pick we cannot afford to f*** up. The track record of 2nd baseman selected in the top 10 isn't good and pitchers obviously come with more risk than positional players.
  5. yeah I love following the prospects as much as I do the major league team.
  6. I'm with you. I prefer Veen to Gonzales. There's not a good track record of 2nd basemen that high in the draft.
  7. Yeah I watched Major League the other night with my kids and it seems all my memories are of Major League II. The kids liked it, but I think I need to watch the squeal with them to really drive home how classic the series is.
  8. 22 innings Grant....but I'm sure the 5.16 FIP in 78 innings in AAA was the anomaly.
  9. Unless they thought his 92 MPH sinker would translate into 96+ MPH out of the pen (ala Aaron Sanchez), then I have no idea why anyone would suggest the development of his secondary pitches would determine if he's a starter or a reliever. Relievers with sinkers in the 92-94 MPH range and nothing else are generally useless in all roles. If I'm the Jays - I'm asking Zeuch to take the "Doc route". Send him back to A ball and ask him to change his repertoire and possibly his arm angle to re-invent himself. He'd be at Driveline or whatever advanced setup you need to try something different. The current version of Zeuch is essentially useless unless he magically has pinpoint control or a new wipe out slider/changeup. He has little to no value as a reliever and can be easily replaced with the next DFA flyer we want to have a look at. There's too much potential in his frame/arm to just let him keep doing what he's doing.
  10. Why? I honestly don't know anyone who really likes Zeuch at this point. I mean he's big and has decent talent in his arm; however, unless he reinvents himself with a new arm angle or approach, it's highly unlikely he even becomes a useful ML piece at this point.
  11. I can't believe it was 5 years ago this year. Time flies.
  12. holy f*** - that fell apart quickly.
  13. Now this is an interesting debate. Based on Brandy's comments, it does sounds like Roy had a problem. That initially made me sad because I thought so highly of him. But after letting it sink in a bit, I'm no longer sad. A lot of people (both good and bad people) struggle with issues and develop bad habits. I have no idea what was going on in his life and I'm not about to start judging him over it. I'm going to choose to remember him for the class act he was on the field. A true competitor and one of the very best players to ever dawn the Blue Jays uniform.
  14. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/wild-world-series-tactics-1990-1993/ little breakdown of coaching in the early '90's
  15. There's more to it than just who's the guy you want. If I can get Veen underslot and leverage that to get a top 30 talent with our 42nd pick - than I think that's a sexy option and is something this FO has done before.
  16. Stroman has challenged Kyle Larson to a UFC fight once Stroman's career is over because Larson dropped an N-bomb during the iRacing thing. He also wants him suspended from Nascar for life and notes it's an embarrassment to Jackie Robinson that Kyle Larson drives #42. Seems like a reaction from someone who wants attention and/or has anger issues.
  17. BlueRocky - FFS, the Zac Veen videos... I think I like him over both the pitchers.
  18. The Franco/Lindor comp looks applicable, as does the Vlady/Manny comp. The question is - who would you rather have? Manny? Lindor? Tatis? Acuna?
  19. Wouldn't the hotel staff have to live at the hotel? Can't have them potentially bringing it into the hotels.
  20. Would you carry like a 40 man roster in Arizona with 14 not on the active roster but training and remaining in game shape who would replace people on the active roster when there are injuries?
  21. Man this s*** is funny to look back on. Why are Derek Bell and Ed Sprague even on the '92 playoff roster? I mean thank god they were for Game 2, but neither of them could hit in '92. Why is Ron Gant coming off the bench? Lonnie Smith gets hit in the 9th inning to put the tieing run on first and Cox brings Gant in to run (then doesn't try to steal even though Borders couldn't throw out Kendrys Morales trying to steal) so he can let Otis Nixon hit.
  22. '92 World Series - Game 2 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the 8th and Cox leaves Smoltz in after he's thrown 119 pitches. Baseball was so different...
  23. Christ we're banning camp fires in half of Ontario just to reduce the stress on the emergency system. I can't imagine this will ever happen - but holy f*** would I welcome back baseball in any form.
