  1. One could argue that if there is no actual penalty to the defender (in this case the 1st baseman) than you're encouraging him to bend the rules as far as he can, hoping to get a judgment call to go his way because there are no consequences for attempting it. If the runner was awarded a base (regardless of whether they were trying to advance on the play) than the defender would really think twice about breaking that rule. If there was no penalty for balking and the ump just called time and said you can't do that - then pick off moves would always be right on the verge of balking...because, why not? (and maybe you could say for lefties that they already are on the verge of it)
  2. This. This is correct Boxy. I think there was someone ahead of Adams in the tunnel already too. Adams ought to have stopped and helped the f***ing guy up and he's a dick for not doing that. But the camera man ran the red light - so no, I don't think he should be able to sue Adams and receive some large cheque simply because he's rich. If this collision happened between 2 people random cameramen, that guy wouldn't be suing anyone. You know some scumbag ambulance chasing lawyer was in this guys ear like 10 minutes after the incident telling him what to do and say so they both could cash in on the event that this f***ing camera caused himself. It's BS.
  3. I think in this case, the argument is the runner wasn't trying to advance to 2nd base and thus shouldn't be awarded it on an obstruction call. That's my guess.
  4. If memory serves correct, I believe Rizzo moved his leg to block it before he had the ball, which would support the idea that you can't block it (or start the motion to block it?) until you have the ball? I wasn't aware that was a rule at any base/plate. I don't understand why they allow you to block any base/plate at any time. It was weird because the ump seemingly just called a dead ball when this happened as Gimenez got up to dust himself off while Rizzo still had the ball. The broadcasters didn't seem to know what was happening or why. Their only stupid comment was that if players want to block it like that - next time you come in spikes first (which is essentially impossible on a pickoff attempt at 1st base).
  5. I'm re-posting this here as I know some avoid the GDT's like the plague. Did you guys see the Gimenez pickoff call at 1st base? Umpire ruled him safe because Rizzo put his whole leg down in front of the bag. I'm very curious about this as you see 3rd basemen do this on steal attempts and throws from the OF from time to time and I've never see an umpire rule the player safe because he was blocking 3rd. Is there actual a rule that prevents a fielder from blocking the base? If so - I think that's great and that's how it should be. Is it for all bases? Anyone know?

  7. Most Thursday night game blow - but this one is particularly horrible. Matchup of 2 of the shittiest QB's in football.
  8. I like it. Maybe bump back the dugout areas a bit like they are now, but otherwise - move the fans closer!

Eddie was pretty dominant in 2002-2004 - even at age 37/38.
  10. What I see in this video is Adams walking off the field with his head slightly down and this f***ing camera man walks right in front of him. Adams didn't need to shove the guy (nor should he have), but this guy also needs to understand the players are walking off the field after a bad loss and if he's going to cut in front of the path of the players entering the tunnel, he needs to stop and make sure the coast is clear - which he didn't. Perhaps easy for me to say as I'm not in that position, but I'd have hard time morally issuing a lawsuit against Adams because he pushed me after my own stupidity, simply because he's rich and the opportunity is there. If this happened between the cameraman and one of the Teams water boys - would he sue him for $150K in damages? Doubtful.
  11. I guess. I'm just saying I like the idea of Carlson for the right price. Young, switch hitting CFer with a great pedigree and 4 years of control? Sign me up. I have to think Kirk has more value than Carlson at this point. If you could sweeten the pot and use Jansen as the prime asset in the deal, that would be really solid.
  12. You wouldn't move 2 years of Jansen for 4 years of Carlson who's entering his age 24 season?
  13. Carlson would be a good target. I like that.
  14. I mean - I love that idea if you're able to land a legit starting CF, another SPer and another lockdown bullpen arm some other way. I'm just not sure we have the assets to pull that off without moving a catcher.
  15. I can't imagine Romano would have been sharp after throwing 2 innings on Saturday. We'd have been praying to the gods that Berrios was on and took us to the finish line. Then again, Seattle would have been short handed too I think.
  16. I mean - he only started 7 games in corner OF positions for the Jays....
  17. Cimber is also a reverse split guy. Gets lefties out better than he does righties. That's actually ideal. Keep Santana on his shittier side and bring in a pitcher who gets lefties out well. That would have neutralized them bringing in Moore for Kelenic also. Whooooops.
  18. Braves for me. Just love that team and B2B winners would be cool for a franchise I followed a lot as a kid that just couldn't put it together in the playoffs year after year. Astros to shut up the whiners. I'd love to say Seattle because they've never won, but I don't think that's going to happen. And f*** the Padres.
  19. Yeah - what Adams did was totally wrong and he should have acknowledged that an apologized immediately. What I don't like is people who immediately think lawsuit and want to cash in simply because he's a rich athlete. And not that it matters, but why did that guy run right in front of him in the first place?
  20. What's with this f***ing bird on the field? What a game!
  21. That's fair - I'm just curious. I'd agree with you.
  22. That's fair - I was thinking average in my head when I wrote 75%, but yes, it's probably only 60% of the time when you consider OBP.
  23. That's fair - however, I suspect that wouldn't be the universal reaction and people would be nick picking it right now. That's what fans do.
  24. Ruiz was 100 wRC+ in AA as a 19 year old (not 20) in 415 PA's (and then yes he was just 88 wRC+ in AA as a 20 year old - which is odd). Moreno was a 192 wRC+ as a 21 year old in AA in just 145 PA's. Ruiz was also a 145 wRC+ as a 22 year old in AAA with big time power. Moreno was 120 wRC+ in AAA as a 22 year old without a lot of power. I do agree that you might get 'true' value for Kirk right now. Not everyone would give you 'true' value for Moreno given his injuries and lack of power this year.
  25. I'm curious. If he left Gausman in - and Gausman gave up a grand slam to Santana, would most on this board support JS and simply suggest that it was Gausman who didn't execute? or would we rip him for not bringing in Garcia or Bass or another RHP in that situation?
