  1. I think he's just reacting to a very underwhelming highlight real from someone that most of us (including me) have never heard of before. I'm not sure I've ever heard of someone referred to as "ultra-stiff" in a scouting report. That's bizarre.
  2. This 100%. The team that signs him will have to guarantee him a full time role, probably in CF - no matter how awful he is at the plate. I could see him signing in Texas.
  3. That's what I was thinking. That has to be the most disappointing highlight real from a 3 hit night I've ever seen.
  4. Would anyone object to adding Belly for 1 year $10M and Conforto 1 year $15M? Belly is primary CF, but Springer plays some games in CF as the "backup" when Belly rests?
  5. Man - Billy will go down as a legend IMO. He helped change how we look at the game. I really wish he was able to get his championship with little to no payroll.
  6. I can firmly say that all 4 uniforms are pure trash. I can't imagine paying someone to come up with those.
  7. He's a career 134 wRC+ hitter coming off a 5.4 WAR season?
  8. Morosi says it's better than 50/50 chance Bellinger is traded or released today.
  9. Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets are acquiring right-handers Elieser Hernández and Jeff Brigham from the Marlins.
  10. Thanks. It's not going so well for him. Hitting is hard. I find it a bit odd that it's the fibula causing issues.
  11. I guess - but in some cases, the team would like to keep him at their true value. I admit this doesn't happen very often, so it's not a big deal.
  12. Holy f*** - I'd pass if the cost for Bellinger is $12M guaranteed. Does he suck now because he f***ed up his shoulder? Is that what they think is holding him back at the plate?
  13. If you suck and your arb 1 salary is $2M, but then you get better, they adjust your pay. But if you start out great, and then suck, they don't adjust it down. That is f***ing stupid. This is union non-sense IMO. It's not like FA's have to be paid more than they were under their previous contract - they get paid what their worth based on previous and projected performance.
  14. Moreno was the #1 prospect in baseball for a brief period and then hit .319 in his first cup of coffee in the majors. Thomas maxed out as a top 15-20 prospect and then struggled mightily as a rookie last year. We'd certainly get Thomas for Moreno. Would we get a TOP pitching prospect + Thomas for Moreno? Seems unlikely - but that will depend the current evaluation of his talent. Given his 71 wRC+ in 411 PA's this past year, it's not unrealistic to think his value has decreased. The more I look at all of this, the more I like the idea of Jansen (+ if necessary) for Nootbar. Gabby and Kirk give us a fantastic tandem for the next 5-6 seasons. It's like Whitt and Borders all over again - except our catchers are both all stars.
  15. Jansen for Thomas would be f***ing ideal, but the Diamondbacks aren't quite ready to contend, so I suspect they want someone with more control (unless they think they can sign him long term). Thomas as a considerably higher ceiling than Pillar. Pillar's ISO numbers never started with a 2 when he was in the minors and Thomas' BB% have double digits. Can't see that happening unless we're adding another quality player to the deal.

I love seeing that - so much talent.
  17. Let's hope Contreras signs with someone besides these 2 teams
  18. Is Lewis cooked? Hummell's put up big time minor league #'s but he's entering his age 28 season with no success at the majors
  19. Bills: "Real football isn't played in a dome" Also the Bills: "It's snowing too much, move our home game to Detroit"
  20. Did SD try this with Christian Bethancourt back in 2016? He was going to be a relief pitcher, backup catcher and backup OFer? Didn't work unfortunately.
  21. It's Jansen + for Alek Thomas I suspect.
  22. Holy f*** balls - Endy Rodriguez just tore a strip off the minors this past year....and apparently he's better known for his defense. From Fangraphs: Rodriguez’s defensive chops headline his profile, as he’s universally praised for his work behind the plate. He’s very athletic, and blocks and throws well, but it’s his intangibles — instincts, work with the pitching staff, game calling — that draw particularly rave reviews. As an example, one evaluator recalled a time when Rodriguez gunned a guy out at second, but skipped his throw in a way that looked intentional. When asked about it, he confirmed that he meant to bounce the throw “because he saw the shortstop get a late break” and wanted to give him an extra beat to reach the bag — you can’t teach that sort of thing. You can teach framing, however, which is good because it’s the element in Rodriguez’s game that needs the most refinement. He’s not a butcher back there, but his hands are noisy and have room for growth. Pittsburgh is not trading for one of our catchers. It's too bad T.Swaggs is busting for Pittsburgh or they could have a solid core coming up with Hayes, Reynolds, O'Neill, Rodriguez, Davis, Nick Gonzalez, R. Contreras, Peguero, etc.
  23. Now there's a concept we should explore. With nobody on base - make your catcher a fielder. He can still call pitches with his transponder. It's where the ball crosses the plate - not where the ball is caught (or not caught) anyway! Is there actually a rule saying you must have a catcher behind the plate catching pitches? This might be more feasible when they got to the roboumps too - Angel Hernandez doesn't need to stand behind the plate anymore. He can just sit in a chair next to home plate and call balls and strikes with his cow prodding zapper from there! 3rd strikes and ball 4's poise some issues, but I'm sure we can figure that out.
  24. Thanks man - what website do you get this info from?
  25. I tend to agree with this. I'm only considering O'Neill if we've exhausted SEVERAL other options.
