Dude - it's just a conversation. I'm not guns blazing at all. It was a little joke to counter all the claims that this FO doesn't know how to fill out a roster and ensure we have enough depth. Having guys in AAA who are ready to contribute at the ML level is exactly what depth looks like. You can't just dismiss their contributions. Espinal has earned some leash man - he's coming off two 2 WAR seasons and has been playing great as of late - and Biggio has a 111 wRC+ since May 1st. He's been a very solid, versatile bench contributor this year. This is one of the deepest Blue Jays teams in the past 25 years - which has allowed us to crawl back into a playoff position while Bo, Chapman and Jansen are injured. I'm sorry you still can't seem to grasp that a move like bringing in Zimmer was a solid move by the FO - albeit one that simply did not work out (every move has a probability of failure). You can't just focus on the results as that is often out of their control. If the FO just focused on results and cut everyone who was bad in half a season (like Espi this year), then we would haven't Richards, Kikucci, Belt, etc. Tapia? Yeah - that one sucked really bad. No FO is perfect though. Look around at other teams a bit more and you'll see it.

Zimmer got 101 PAs last year after coming off a 91 wRC+, 1.6 WAR season. Obviously it didn't work out great for the Jays, but it's easy to see why the Jays brought him in. I think most underestimate how difficult it is to be the 5th OFer on a team and get an at bat or 2 once every 8 games. Tapia definitely got too many PA's as our 4th OFer last year. Both issues got addressed late last season. I don't think anyone expected Espinal to be this bad this year. He's given us like the 10% percentile result unfortunately. He was a league average or above hitter the past 2 years and about a 2 WAR player. The FO isn't to blame for penciling Espinal in as a utility guy this year - in fact they deserve credit for pushing him from a starter into a backup role man. I think you overestimate the production teams should expect from their bench players. The Dodgers have David Peralta, Vargas and Rojas all over 300 PA's this year and they all have wRC+'s below 90 and have provided a combined 0.2 WAR. Dodgers are super lucky that Jason Heyward has come back from the dead. Take a look at most of the top teams (except the Braves - those guys are insane) and you'll see lots of guys like Biggio getting even more playing time. The O's have Adam Frazier essentially starting for them (400+ PA's) and he's essentially Biggio...

I know Seattle is now firmly back in the race and such and thus it probably was never going to happen, but man - if we could have gotten Teo at the deadline like most of us were suggesting, we'd be laughing right now. 189 wRC+ in August 182 wRC+ in September (so far) He's up to a 113 wRC+ for the season and almost 2 WAR. He would have been an absolute perfect fit for this team down the stretch. I'm really happy for the guy. Love Teo. He's probably in line for a solid payday now - maybe a 3 year deal in the $45-$60M range?

Ok it's story time. I have a friend who seems to have a ton of connections to the Jays and he tells me: 1. Gausman microdoses shrooms before every start (which increases focus). I'm curious if this is a thing with other players. 2. Kikuchi eats honey every 2nd inning, which he apparently uses to get a better grip on the ball - but has gone unnoticed by MLB all year (this one seems fishy). 3. Clement is a booze hound. One of the only single guys on the team and loves to party and wheel the ladies. Not a coke guy though - although it sounds like others are (which isn't surprising). I expect most will be skeptical, but I thought it was interesting and thought I'd share.

I'm sorry, but if you understood baseball and statistics, you wouldn't be criticizing the FO for using Garcia in high leverage situations. You simply made some comments about Garcia and I presented some facts that suggest otherwise. If you're rational in discussing baseball, that shouldn't throw you into defense mode, it should initiate more discussion. You could perhaps point out something I'm overlooking. The best argument was likely that Berrios should have continues - not that using Garcia was a bad call (if you're going to use the bullpen in that situation). You could have showed some statistics supporting that position (if they exist). Me countering one of your posts isn't me and the brigade coming after you. It's to create discussion. If we all agreed with everything others said, there'd be no discussion.

I agree with that - except the sample size has to be really small to get 'bad recent results' from Yimi. From August 1st (his last 12 innings), his xFIP is still 4th amongst our RPers, FIP is 3rd, K% is 1st, BB% is 5th - even his ERA is at 3.00. Even if you most if to August 15th, the numbers don't really drop much. It's literally been his last 2 outings. I'm not going to blame Schneider for using him in high leverage yesterday simply because he didn't pitch well when he last pitched on Saturday. He'd come off 9 straight appearances without giving up an ER and had only given up 1 in his last 12 appearances. This isn't Chatwood. Now he has given up ERs in his last 2 appearances. I highly doubt it's a smart idea to pull him from high leverage situations moving forward based on those last 2 outings, but yes, if the situation presents itself, it would be nice to get him a clean inning in a low leverage situation over the next few games. I'm not even sure who you guys want to use instead. Looks like we're playing with fire with Genesis, Mayza's recent results aren't great (K's way down, BB way up) - so not sure who's taking Garcia's role unless you're ready to put Chad Green into it. Richards has been touched up more than Garcia lately, so I assume by the same rational, he's not an option.

Everything suggests Yimi is one of the best relivers on the team - except his ERA and we know you struggle to understand the element of luck that's involved in the game of baseball. Taking Garcia (or any pitcher) out of certain situations based on recency bias is pretty stupid. When you play roulette and it's come up 'black' 3 times in a row, do you bet colours thinking you have the edge over the house? Are you taking Richards out of high leverage too? His ERA is 6.75 since August 1st (even though he has the 2nd best xFIP). Are you letting Genesis close out games? He has the lowest ERA in our pen since August 1st (dispite having one of the highest xFIP's). I'm curious how you'd run this bullpen. You can say "you took the bait", but I'm just responding to fact less opinions - with you know, facts.

Out of all our RP's this year, Yimi is: 2nd in xFIP 5th in FIP (including Genesis) 3rd in K/9 3rd in BB/9 (including Genesis and Bowden) 2nd in IP 2nd in SIERA 2nd in avg EV (behind Jay Jackson) 2nd in HardHit% 3rd in Stuff+ 5th in Pitching+ 3rd in holds Can't seem to find the inherited runners stranded stat, but we know he has a ton of those too (and a high % of stranding them). I understand some recent frustration, but are people ripping Yimi based off his ERA? What year is it? Prepare to see Yimi in a lot more games this year, including the playoffs if we make it.

I'm sure Guillermo is simply coaching better these days and has told hitters to try and get hits when runners are in scoring position.

Crazy to see Sheff have a 172 wRC+ season at age 23 with a 7.8 BB%, 6.5 K% rates - and then at age 27, he had a 185 wRC+ season with 21 BB% and a 9.7 K%

There have been a few posters who suggested it may get to that point. Paying $20M for a 0.5 WAR player isn't a great idea.

Seems doubtful to me. Lots of the teams claiming ahead of us are in the thick of the playoff race too and I'm sure they'll have a little money and some s***** guy on their 40 they can drop to add 1 or 2 guys who could help.
