  1. Doesn't he basically suggest we shouldn't use analytics? I'm not sure how any logical fan would believe that's a good idea. Maybe ask the Colorado Rockies how that's working out for them.
  2. Fans really struggle with the reality that even moves that are logical and sound fail some percentage of the time.
  3. Oh there's a good one. Funny how quickly fans forget this type of stuff.
  4. I think there's a very good chance Berrios knew the strategy going into the game.
  5. I'm just saying I understand the strategy to pull your starter a bit too soon, rather than too late in a playoff game - especially an elimination game. I don't love that baseball has turned to this - I grew up watching starters go deep into the playoffs and it's more enjoyable to watch, but I understand why baseball has changed (the bullpen arms are just so good now). Personally, in your odd theoretical scenario, I'd be more upset if the FO didn't have the balls implement the same plan with Scherzer that they did with Berrios - especially when Scherzer is a declining 38 year old pitcher who just got lit up in the playoffs last year when the team tried to 'ride him' a bit too long.
  6. Whoops - apparently the box scores were listed newest to oldest. My mistake. But I think the point still stands - there is very recent history of a Manager sticking with Scherzer too long in a playoff spot and it costing them the game.
  7. I still struggle to imagine that a team would try to implement a "team hitting philosophy". Hitting is so individual. What works for Bo won't work for Chapman. You can't go into the season and say "this year boys, we're going to spray that f***ing ball all over the place". That said, Moneyball suggested the FO staff were sitting down with players regularly, trying to show them evidence that if they adjusted their approach, they would be better. Was that just for show? or is that how it works? I mean I expect/hope they do sit down with each player and talk about things they can do to improve and show them numbers to support it - I'm just not convinced that every player gets the same message.
  8. It's like you forget that last year the Mets rode Scherzer into the 5th inning v. the Padres in Game 3 of the wild card series and he got lit the f*** up, surrendering 4 runs in the 5th and 7 runs overall - ending the Mets season.
  9. Oh thanks - I didn't notice that. All I'm doing is countering people who say "use your eyes, he was lights out, that's the best he's ever thrown, electric". Perhaps there was a reason for the uptick in velocity and we don't know how long that would have lasted. Could it have lasted 60 pitches? Maybe, 80 pitches? Maybe. We don't know. The coaching staff wasn't going to let him pitch long enough to find out when the 'stuff' dropped off. I can understand that logic. We scored 1 run in 2 games. The offensive players lost us the series. They weren't good enough and hadn't been good enough all year. End of story.
  10. Absolutely. I never said it wasn't. Both options are plausible - I just didn't see anyone suggesting there's a probability that Berrios was told to empty the tank and we don't know how much longer he was going to be able to go with that level of effectiveness. Even if it was adrenaline, that typically wears off at some point. Of course nobody wants to consider that right now.
  11. Yeah that all seems pretty obvious to me. We score 1 run in 2 games and there are 36 articles and thousands of fans losing their minds over a pitching change in the 4th inning. I get people are upset, but it's like they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn right now.
  12. Maybe, but not every pitcher throws better when the adrenaline is flowing. In fact, several struggle with it. I just think it's logical to think that Berrios showed an uptick in velocity because he was told he was on a short leash and shouldn't hold anything back. In fact - I think that's exactly the message he should have received before the game. There's no way you want Berrios holding back in the early innings because he's trying to pace himself and give you 7 innings. He was lights out, but if he was emptying the tanks, who knows how long he could have gone before the results declined. Of course we'll never know. Can't win if you don't score.
  13. Schneider was 2 for his last 39. It was probably as easy as that unless you felt that meant "he was due".
  14. I'm sure giving up 2 runs in the 4th inning felt more like like surrendering 10 runs. That's how f***ing terrible the offense is. It's pretty pathetic when allowing ANY runs throws your offense into panic mode. Going into the series, I'm sure if you told everyone we were going to give up 5 runs in 2 games, we'd have all felt pretty good about that. The offense didn't produce - it didn't produce all year. So many underachievers. Blame the FO, blame the nerds, blame the coaches all you want. At the end of the day, the blame is on the players, specifically this offense. They didn't get the job done. That said - baseball is often a game of inches. Chapman's flyball to deep right center flies another 2 feet and is off the wall, or his rip down the line yesterday falls fair and it's a different narrative. If the hits off Kikucci are hit a foot closer to Biggio and Bo - then nobody scores. Sometimes baseball doesn't seem fair as it can come down to some random outcomes.
  15. The 100 million dollar starter is needed to get you into the playoffs. Once you're in, it's all a crapshoot anyway.
  16. Has anyone stopped to think that they told Berrios the plan and told him to empty the tank early on as he wasn't going 7+ innings? Which created an uptick in velocity and stuff?
  17. And that's what is wrong with the world. It's not news at all anymore. No accountability, no recourse. They just print ******** after ******** to suit their narrative.
  18. Until October! It all starts now. Vlad is getting hot.
  19. That isn't surprising to me. There's almost no such thing as "news" anymore. It's all just content for entertainment purposes and to serve a narrative (which is often political). White guys are prime clickbait material these days and people love to make things up and stretch the truth. It's a goldmine for them. They don't care what the consequences are as long as they make money (which ironically was seemingly the approach white guys took to gain their privilege).
  20. You could say it's gross...
  21. But it's you making up some BS narrative in this case. Why? It's stupid. Don't be stupid.
  22. I'm confused. If he has a bad game, you're going to claim he must have cared more about hanging out with old teammates and that's the reason he pitched poorly? Or after he pitches a bad game, you think he's going to be more excited than anything to hangout with his teammates?
  23. If Bassitt sucks v. lefties and the Twins are full of them - why isn't Kikucci starting?
  24. Did teams "prepare" pitchers to throw on 3 days rest 10 years ago? I don't recall that at all.
  25. Correa, Lewis and Polanco in, Buxton out
