  1. No no...fans only complain if you pull them early.
  2. Throughout a long season, the "best team in baseball" can change at several different points. Are we trying to find the best team in baseball by the end of the season? or the team that was the best when you average it out over the 6 month period.
  3. what is wrong with you?
  4. I heard tickets in Arizona for the game today were going for like $15. Fans already jumping off the bandwagon? I do hope Arizona can get back into the series, simply because that makes for better baseball. A couple of 7 game series, followed by a Texas/Philly WS would be amazing. I can see Texas/Houston going 7, but unfortunately, Philly looks unstoppable now and I'm not expecting anything more than a 5 game series.
  5. The following people are nominated for the HOF through the committee HOF vote: Cito Gaston Davey Johnson Jim Leyland Ed Montague Hank Peters Lou Piniella Cowboy Joe West Bill White Without looking (I don't even know who a few of these guys are), I'd suggest Piniella and Leyland deserve some consideration. If Cowboy Joe West gets in, does that pave the way for Angel to get in?
  6. I suspect the players would be the ones against it. Fewer games means lower salaries. Would fewer games give you a small bump in the average attendance for Owners? I think 154 would be great - go back to the old days.
  7. Do you think he gets into the HOF? The 10 GG's probably help a lot. Looks like Longoria will fall short. I was always such a huge fan of Longoria and David Wright back in the day. Arenado just needs to start drinking whatever Adrian Beltre did in his early 30's.
  8. I'm curious what the board thinks about Arenado. Are we firmly in a decline now? I was prepared to give him a pass in the COVID 2020 season, but he hasn't been great with the bat in 2 of the past 3 season - albeit the sandwich season in between was his very best! Is he going to rebound and cruise into the HOF? or is he going to end up like Longoria and limp to the finish line, falling just short of a HOF career?
  9. Gold Glove nominees are out. 5 Blue Jays (Berrios, Chapman, Varsho, KK and Kirk). Biggest shock is Arenado wasn't nominated this year, after winning it for 10 straight years. Riley nominated over Arenado is a joke, although Ke-Bryan Hayes should win the award anyway (and he may for the foreseeable future). and yes, Moreno was also nominated in the NL.
  10. I'm just going to bump this if that's OK.
  11. Tyreek Hill will be in the running if he somehow maintains his current pace. 120 rec, 2,300 yrds, 17 tds First ever WR to win MVP? Maybe.
  12. #1 - I'm pretty sure I drove the narrative that Vlad doesn't listen. All good there - I believe it's true. #2 - I could buy that, but then again, that would mean they wouldn't necessarily be buying into this narrative that the Jays implemented a new hitting philosophy for all players.
  13. yep - great call. Left Kelly in and now the game is over.
  14. curious what you're basing this on...
  15. Who are you talking about? I honestly have no idea. I think most on here give AA tons of credit, while also acknowledging that he was learning on the job and made some mistakes along the way. I know I certainly was, and still am a huge AA fan.
  16. You're giving angry Blue Jay fans too much credit.
  17. Right - because that strategy is working for Philly, it will work for everyone. Brilliant. Why didn't it work for the Jays in 2022? edit - Nevermind. Don't answer that. I don't care.
  18. Casty has given them 0.2 WAR combined over the first 2 years of that deal. He was horrendous for them in the playoffs last year also. That deal has been an abomination for the Phillies. Luckily, he's been hot for a few weeks when it matters most.
  19. 100% Spank. This is what I want to see.
  20. I'd agree. Then again, Moreno might hit like Kirk did this year and then the trade won't look as awful again. We literally just watched our catcher go from a 129 wRC+, 3.9 WAR monster to a 96 wRC+, 1.6 WAR mess, yet some are SOLD that Moreno is going to be a superstar after he finally starting hitting well over his past 175 PA's...catchers fail all the time. Shapiro's suggesting that you can't judge this trade right now is spot on.
  21. man - you're such a piece of s***.
  22. https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker?pos=cf&season=2021 https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker?pos=cf&season=2022 https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker?season=2023&pos=cf Oh - my bad, there are always several quality CFers available in free agency year after year. How could I be so stupid? I also recall the Yanks got Harrison Bader and SD got Trent Grisham for nothing. We should have just done that.
  23. C'mon man - if Varsho is a consistent 5 WAR player, this trade would be a massive win for the Jays. The sophomore slump reference was for Moreno. He's been good for 1/2 a season in the majors (2nd half 2023). Will the league adjust to him? Will he adjust back? Nobody really knows. Obviously he's had a lot of success in the minors, but it's not a given he takes off and becomes a star player. Look at what happened with Kirk this year (while remembering he also had great minor league success). If there are any MLB fans that should be cautious with giving a catcher who hit great for 1/2 a season too much praise - it's Jays fans. My point was - it's idiotic to get all worked up because Shatkins suggested that fans need to give this trade a few years before evaluating it - claiming they have no accountability. It's just stupid. And FWIW, I do thinks there's a very good chance that Moreno does become a star, while Varsho becomes a solid, defensive CFer. I do think we'll look back on this trade in 3-4 years and claim it was a mistake. It's just too early to conclude that.
  24. You don't see ANY reason at all to give this trade more time before evaluating it? Even if you don't - is it too difficult to understand that some people see value in waiting a bit longer before they form a judgement? You've never seen a baseball player improve after a difficult year on a new team? You've never seen a player experience a sophomore slump, or an extended slump after some early success? Based on this logic, do you think Davis Schneider is destine for the HOF?
  25. Because it generates clicks man. That's now news/media works - never expect anything different. Lots will be enraged that a woman got an interview and they will click on that story and get angry about it (see above for examples). There are also lots of people who will think it's great and click on the article to find out more about it.
