  1. Curious. 20 years from now, will we consider Wemby to be a better player than Tim Duncan? What about David Robinson?
  2. Perhaps Candelario was the equivalent to Morales this offseason?
  3. I think OKC might be the best team to watch right now in the NBA.

He was a late 2nd round pick. I think most of them fail to have long, productive NHL careers.
  5. He could be referring to the Front Office - still pissed that they sent him down to the minors twice last year (for being useless).

Yes - they are professionals, but none of them are stars. Carter Hart is a career 2.94 GGA, 0.906 SV% goalie. That isn't a 'stud'. Cale Maker and Jordan Kyrou are star players from that roster. The accused are just role players IMO.
  7. I mean - Belly just got $17M last year, coming off a horrendous 83 wRC+ season. Even if he does settle for some 1 year deal, it's almost assured it will be for more than $20M. Almost every team in baseball would want Belly for 1 year $20M this year. Even if he has to settle for a shorter team "prove it" deal, it's most likely to be a multi year deal with opt-outs. I could see something like a 4 year $80M deal with the first year being worth $30M - and there being opt-outs for Belly after year 1. If Belly repeats the 5 WAR season, he takes his $30M and opts out - signing a big deal next winter. If he returns to a 2 WAR player (or flops) then the team is paying him $16.7M annually over the next 3 years - and there is some upside that he'll rebound and provide excess value for those remaining 3 years.
  8. Unforutnately his Dad was an abusive alcoholic who's now in jail - so unfortunately, he could be battling those demons himself. Hopefully he gets the support and help he needs to unlock his full potential.
  9. It's ironic that his brother owns/operates a gym/fitness training place - while his brother is known for being an overweight POS who's career is now in jeopardy.

What's wild about this? We've known this was coming for a long time haven't we? Most of these players suck. It looks like the legit stars from that team are all clean.
  11. https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2828858/the-hall-of-fame-remains-too-exclusive-but-that-might-be-changing Interesting article - that suggests MORE modern day players should be getting into the hall. I have to think those numbers rise up if they let the PED users in.
  12. I love Cooperstown and the Baseball HOF. I agree there have been some questionable voting and additions to the hall, but as a baseball fan - I want to support the HOF and maintain it's image as a mythical place - home to the greats of the game. A tribute to baseball. IMO, baseball does it 1000x better than any other sport. The Doubleday field and the surrounding diamonds, with all the baseball tournaments they hold annually. IMO, it's a beautiful tribute to this amazing game. Looks past some of the scars it has and enjoy it.
  13. Thanks Jim - but can we move this to the prospects thread?
  14. Yeah - I'm curious now too. I mean, don't teams typically have most of their 40 man rosters full? Constantly grabbing players and then dropping them again when better players become available? I'll assume this situation is somewhat unusual? Is it one of the reasons why the FA season has been so slow this year?
  15. Interesting Hurl. Great insight that I'm sure most didn't know and hadn't considered. It's information and views like this that remind me just how good this board is.
  16. Is there even evidence that Manoah started games with "good stuff" and the stuff declined as the game wore on (presumably because he was out of shape and unable to perform due to the pitch clock)? I'm not sure there is. Dude was s*** from his 1st pitch to his last in most games last year. You're certainly not the only one to keep pushing this narrative, but I'm not sure there's a lot of evidence to support it, but maybe I'm wrong.
  17. This a must watch. Narrated by long time teammate, Justin Morneau. How can you not be romantic about baseball. You can show all the WAR stats you want, but there's little doubt in my mind that Mauer had a HOF career. His longevity was cut short due to the concussions unfortunately, but it's hard to argue against the greatness of this player during his peak.
  18. Man - I'm filled with some emotions as I read the list of players. I watched every single on of these players grind it out and battle during their careers. Most brought such great joy and entertainment to my life. Congrats to Beltre, Mauer and Helton. My boy, Billy Wagner is next and I hope to see Andruw Jones and Beltran follow him. I'm surprised Utley was only at 28.8% and I do hope one day we recognize the PED users and put them in where they belong.
  19. all good brother. I'm not here for the thunder.
  20. Beltre, Mauer and Helton are going to Cooperstown. https://www.mlb.com/news/2024-baseball-hall-of-fame-election-results Wagner falls just short at 73.8% and Sheff falls short in his 10th year at 63.9%. Based on these results, you could see Carlos Beltran get in soon, as he's at 57.1% in his 2nd year of eligibility. Andruw Jones is at 61.6% in year 7. Utley only got 28.8% in his first year. David Wright stays on the ballot, getting 6.2% of the vote, while our own Jose Bautista will fall off the ballot, after receiving just 1.6% of the vote. Others who fall off include V-Mart, Colon, Matt Holliday, Adrian Gonzalez, Brandon Phillips, Jose Reyes and James Shields. I feel really f***ing old just typing those names. Where has the time gone...
  21. Are the Dodgers going to bring Kershaw back? Is the Paxton signing a sign that they aren't - and he'll end up in Texas?
  22. FFS - Varsho's career ISO is .188, which would have ranked him 58th in baseball last year (from qualified batters). Even in a "down" year, his ISO was still 80th in baseball - tied with Correa, Yelich and William Contreras - ahead of Bo, Sal Perez and Suarez. Varsho has good power. Please stop with the nonsense.
  23. We have other options on the team who can give Vlad a break at 1st base. Biggio being the obvious one.
