  1. It was an honest question. I've always just thought I'd rather take the best hitter - regardless of which side of the plate they bat from. I mean if you have 2 equal players and one is LH and one is RH - then sure, give me the LH bat to create more balance, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way, or pay more, just to get balance. Perhaps I'm understating the importance. That said, it seems A LOT more LH batters are complete s*** v. LHP and have to be platooned and/or can be neutralized late in games by bringing in a LHP (like Joc would have been). RH batters don't seem to have the same issues. No need to be dick man.
  2. Last year we were 8th in MLB v. RHP and 9th in MLB v. LHP (based on wRC+). Can someone explain why adding a 'strong LH bat' is so important to this team?
  3. JD might be a spring training invite at this point. Tim Anderson could be too.
  4. Vlad, Springer, Kirk and Varsho all project to be significantly better offensively than they were last year. I don't think it's a stretch or an insult for the FO to expect at least 3, if not all 4 of them to be better offensively this year. Don't let recency bias take over man......
  5. As currently constructed, it would appear Horwitz has a firm role on this team heading into spring training. Backup 1st base and DH option v. RHP who could easily see 300+ PA's and has the opportunity to run with it if he get's hot.
  6. To be fair - the 2023 outcome doesn't matter either.
  7. And they were super unlucky with their bats. What's your point?
  8. At this time last year, on paper, we were one of the favorites to win the World Series.
  9. This team certainly needs more gingers in the clubhouse. They bring the fire and have no souls.
  10. 2023 bases empty - .232 RISP - .338 Our RISP issues are fixed guys. We signed a clutch hitter. Sarcasm aside, he's been a much more productive hitter with RISP throughout his career too - one of the few players who consistently performs better with RISP.
  11. Joc wanted to play on the west coast. The Jays probably would have had to offer him $20M to come here.
  12. Justin Turner is getting a one-year, $13 million deal from the Blue Jays that includes an extra $1.5 million in bonuses. That’s a pretty good deal for Turner, particularly since the supply seems to exceed the demand for DH-type hitters right now. Of course, it helps Turner’s case that he’s pretty good at first and still playable at third. Sounds like there will be no Jorge Soler. Jays had to flex to get their guy I guess.
  13. Interesting. Very curious if they think he can handle 60-80 games at 3rd or not. The guy is a professional hitter. This is like getting a right handed Michael Brantley (whom most have wanted for years). But he's old as dirt and could fall off the cliff at any moment. Will be interesting to see what he cost us. This is a pretty boring move.
  14. vomit.
  15. Well neither of us know what the offer was - so why speculate about "went hard" means - and then assume it means the Jays offered the same as other teams?
  16. No need to overpay for a 2 WAR DH man. That would be stupid/poor planning.
  17. My apologies. 2 for his last 4590.
  18. I think his 0 for 4586 stretch to end the season may have had an impact on his playing time.
  19. I'm seeing this narrative a lot. What's the concern with this guy? Shape on his fastball?
  20. This is somewhat equivalent to playoff baseball with teams that pull starters early and lean on their bullpen and another example of judging results instead of the process. So easy to blame then when it fails, but they played that aggressive style all season long and it's what helped get them there. It was part of their mindset. If they succeed (which they did a lot this year), they'd have won. You also have to factor in the possibility their kicker misses. Here's an article suggesting he didn't do anything wrong, with numbers to support it - https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/football/news/dan-campbell-did-nothing-wrong It would have been really nice to see Detroit make the Super Bowl. Love seeing new teams get a chance to win it all.
  21. Varsho/KK/Belly in the OF with Springer at DH would be sublime to watch defensively.
  22. That's fair. It's just a fun thing to consider and discuss. Pretty crazy the Spurs already have had 2 of the best big men of all-time and may have a 3rd generational player on their hands.
