  1. What? He's good offensively. He's having a decent spring, and he's injury free. If he's free you don't want that for a DH? Okay.
  2. I want the Jays to win this year, too. I get the service time debate, but this is a pretty solid team. I'd rather those young kids come in and blow people away than keep Drabek simply because he is out of options. But, having said that, I'd *almost* prefer to promote Delabar and trade for Papelbon (with 80% of his salary paid by the Phillies) to keep Osuna and Castro in the minors for a while. Being a GM is a tough job.
  3. Okay, what if the Jays take both Papelbon and Howard of the Phillies hands for a fraction of those salaries. Do they help us? Who's better at 1B defensively, Howard or EE. I think EE. Then we don't have to wait for Smoak to pan out or not. Howard would certainly, as DH, smack 25 dingers and bat .240. That'd be a lineup. Plus, grabbing Papelbon would keep one of the young bucks in the minors to delay service time. Win win.
  4. You have to battle test these kids at some point. Pompey showed he could belong as early at this season with his stint. If that didn't happen, Rasmus or Gose, or both, might still be Jays. Probably Gose. Then we don't have a young kid ready to assume 2B. It's not always black and white, that's for sure.
  5. I saw that and thought the exact same thing. I think he bounces back and at that price what the hell.
  6. I feed my kids bananas in the morning. Now I feel badly about myself.
  7. He seems like a stand up guy, and he was certainly a solid catcher for quite a while. I love the fact that he talked to Reyes and MB about TO when the big trade was announced, and really became a cheerleader for TO. Then he was traded before ever playing a game for the Jays that season.
  8. I think mostly service time. We don't want any super twos. I would rather keep, say, a Delabar and a scrub like Drabek up for a couple weeks then demote/promote accordingly. Delabar can be sent down, then a Drabek might clear waivers and make it down.
  9. Is he still topping out at 89 mph? If so, he may clear. If he's throwing 94, who knows.
  10. Me too. Sarcasm is my middle name. Howarth can suck my dick.
  11. Did you really laugh out loud? Might I suggest you watch more funny TV shows or movies?
  12. Woo hoo! We're all in baby!
  13. Hah - maybe. How's his rehab going?
  14. I don't see your reasoning. Anyway, Cecil is hurt. And shoulder issues aren't always minor. In fact, quite the opposite. But apart from the injury, I'd rather build a stud like Castro to be our closer for the next 4+ years instead of relying on a guy who's hurt and may leave after this year. Also, we're not going anywhere this year, playoff-wise, so that's another reason, for me, to build for the future and entrusting the closer duties to a guy that figures in the plans long term. If you think Cecil is not hurt AND we have a shot at playoffs AND Cecil is a better pitcher than Castro, then I guess I get your stance. But man, we lost 2-3 WAR with Stro's injuries. We were fringe before that.
  15. Cecil is hurt. You can't count on him right now. Plus, isn't he a FA after this year? Why set someone up as the team closer when we'll more than likely lose him after this season. CJ part 2.
  16. Who's better defensively, Barton or Smoak?
  17. Why do you laugh out loud thinking of a guy that can throw a lively 100 mph fastball, has a great changeup with fantastic location and doesn't seem to get rattled on the hump?
  18. Okay, back to the original thread topic... I say f*** it, go youth. What do we have to lose? We're a fringe contender at best. let's have fun watching the young bucks. SP --- The old men Hutchinson Sanchez Norris Bullpen -------- Delabar Redmond Estrada Jenkins (set up man 1) Loup (Set up man 2) Cecil (Closer) Castro Of, if you have the lead and a whack of righties, maybe Delabar is your 8th inning guy...but only if he looks solid this spring.
  19. Jeffress wasn't here that long ago. He touched 98-99 many times.
  20. I am 99% sure now Castro makes the 'pen. In light of the Stroman injury. I would rather Sanchez start, and then Castro could take his spot in the 'pen. Not to close, although control and heat are his fortes. But maybe I mean, really, we're not even fringe contenders after Stro's injury. Let's have some fun with the young guys.
  21. Yes! I'd love have Jimanez as the backup. Decent defense and arm, young guy who may mature into a decent bat. That would be perfect.
  22. How long do we have to have Strasburg before we can make a QO at the end of the year? By the first day of the regular season?
  23. Can you imagine our infield with Lawrie at 2B for this season? We probably would have had to send a blue chip prospect or two instead, and that's crazy, but it's nice to imagine that infield. We would almost have no position holes, short of depending on Lawrie's health, and Pompey being a rookie.
