  1. If Smoak, say, gets ~ 500 AB's and Dirks gets, say, 200 AB's, what would a realtistic optimistic predict their WAR values to be for 2015? I'm saying 1.7 and .8 respectively.
  2. OMG, I just looked at his defensive details. He sux! I thought he was ok on that side.
  3. Yeah? Are you sure? His fall ball numbers weren't impressive. And even if he, say, was like 0.6 WAR in CF, other teams that are in contention are producing far more than that at that position.
  4. First, if we signed Weeks, he'd be the 2B this year, not DH. Secondly, Navarro wants out, so it's more likely than not that he's gone come opening day. Third, Smoak could suck ass. And then he's gone. We are not Detroit, we don't have a ton of professional hitters to work the DH spot. He is saying if we sign Weeks for 3 years, or something, we could possibly DH him in 2016 or 17, assuming Travis by then is ready to assume 2B over Weeks.
  5. Certainly no worse than Navarro as DH. More speed anyway.
  6. Johnson is no better than Izturus. Weeks is intriguing for sure. How much would he command? It might take a multi-year deal to entice him, blocking Travis, but since Travis is far from a blue chip prospect that wouldn't bother me. I predict Weeks would be good for 1-2 WAR with the Jays. But maybe, just maybe, he'd take a 1-year deal to hope for a rebound year and rebuild value. I dunno. I don't think the article is saying spend, spend, spend. Well, maybe it is, but it's not saying spend like a drunken sailor. I think it's saying what a lot of us think. We're soooooo close to having a really solid team. $20M more would get us a decent closer or two, and maybe a decent 2B. $30M gets us a good closer, a good starter, etc. $20-40M more would produce, what 5-7 more wins? That's a playoff spot. And a playoff spot would be a bonanza, money-wise, for Rogers. Certainly they would make that $20-40M back with ticket sales, merchandise, TV revenue. Another spin-off, increased season ticket sales for 2016. And spending that moolah, instead of trades, would mean we keep a lot of our prospects for the future. To me it's just common sense.
  7. Reyes is leading off. You're joking around, right?
  8. What you said. He'd be excellent to have off the bench.
  9. Friendly bet. JB misses > 20 games because of injuries.
  10. Izturis, short of that disaster that was 2013, is a plus defender according to fangraphs. Typically, he has posted a plus WAR value. I take him over Goins. Sure Izturis is older and coming back from a serious injury, but I think since it's his contract year, and I'm assuming he's fully healed, he'll be okay holding the fort for Travis. Although going with Goins wouldn't make me vomit. He's way better defensively. I say, if Izturis shows good stuff in March, he's the man. For now.
  11. I would be okay with Ichiro, too. You know JB will get hurt at some point, or Pompey might fizzle. He didn't have good winter ball numbers.
  12. Rich beyond belief, single and playing an awesome game I love for millions. I can't think of a better life.
  13. Yep. Or more. He'll be an all star in three years. #outonlimb
  14. Definitely I make that deal. I think Howard as the full time DH (well, maybe ~450 AB's) might really do something. I wouldn't want him touching 1B. At the very least, he'd be a powerful presence as a PH off the bench with men on. Utley would be awesome, of course, but IIRC he has a full no-trade clause and has no intention of ever leaving Philadelphia.
  15. It still burns me a bit that the Jays didn't make a trade for Prado happen. He'd be SO nice at 2B, and last I saw Steamer gave him a 2.3 WAR prediction for 2015. f***. But I totally agree with what you say. Shields would be nice, but I think he's not as good as many others think he is. I think a couple of our young arms *may* come close to his production, for sure by 2016.
  16. I think he'd be okay on a 3-year. Scutaro-like after this year, super-sub. He plays 3B and SS pretty well actually. Count me if for Jed Lowrie.
  17. I am onboard with signing Rasmus to play LF for 1-year. I am sure his agent would recommend he only sign a 1-year deal to rebuild his value. Does anyone think we could sign Nelson Cruz to a 3-year deal, throw him in LF and part time DH? Would a 3-year, $38M deal get him? Cheaper than Melky, slightly better in LF, older so maybe cheaper? Just wondering what you all think of that...
  18. Sign Jed Lowrie, Melky and Liriano.
  19. Question, what would it cost to sign Jed Lowrie for 2-years? What would it cost to sign Melky for 4-years? What would it cost to sign Liriano for 3+ years? if we backloaded their contracts, ala Martin (althought not as extreme) could we do it? Another question, if we signed those guys, do we have a chance at at the playoffs?
  20. Norris plus two prospects. I love both Sanchez and Stroman. I don't want them to go for almost anything. I think Bruce would kick ass in LF. Or RF after 2015.
  21. In light of the Martin signing, doing something like this would be fantastic. A 3-year commitment is VERY reasonable. Maybe a club option for a 4th. Then we're pretty much tweaking before the season. Maybe adding someone in middle relief, and someone like Headley for the INF. But with Martin and Melky, AA can be forgiven if he goes with Izturis or Travis/Pompey as starters I think.
  22. Sure, but that perception could equal no trade clauses to the Jays. Plus, the reality is we have a higher tax rate than probably every US State.
  23. Nope, we don't have plenty of income tax in Canada? You should take a course, or look at your T4 or something.
  24. I'm guessing taxes are an issue. I'm guessing most players do not add ball teams that are located in States that have no income tax. What would a player lose in Toronto, 35%?
