  1. Well, two things. If his mentorship is that valuable, bring him back as a coach when he retires. Second, if he's on the team for 2019, he will take away playing time from our prospect/young infielders in his current "super sub" role. Guys that should be getting some MLB reps.
  2. We accomplish many things by *trading* Martin. I have literally posted lists.
  3. I am not sure that wold rank even top 10 bad PR moves that have been made over the Shapiro regime. Especially if it is done in the offseason, they honour Martin at some point, and he goes to a contender. It's not like there are 5,000 fans who would stop coming to Rogers Centre if Martin is moved.
  4. Rogers will be paying $20M for Martin, a declining vet, in a rebuilding year when there are others who can and really should replace. $20M is sunk cost. If they trade him and eat $16M, they come out of 2019 $4M ahead of the game, and (presumably) Martin gets to play for a contender, and maybe even be the everyday catcher. The Jays get 1-2 prospects (the more the FO eats of that contract, the more and higher quality prospects we get) and an extra young player gets to stay up in the MLB and get some experience. The Jays will not be an absolute tire fire unless Sanchez and Stroman suck again. Nothing Martin can do about those two sucking, other than framing, etc., and by many measurable many of the Jays in the system offer decent defense. So that gap won't be that significant. Play the kids, see what we have, and if one or more fizzle, address subsequently by trade or FA signing. $4M better off with prospects? Oh yeah, the FO will be taking a look at that scenario.
  5. Man, not bad for not signing EE to a $100M deal. Okay, Pearson is good a baseball. He's 22, has two plus pitches, working on a 3rd, etc. Should he be considered for a starting role in 2019, say after May 1st (service time consideration), or should he stick in the minors another year and a few weeks?
  6. I get it. You would rather hold on to a expensive veteran on the decline in what is definitely a rebuilding year instead of trading him for prospects, saving him the embarrassment of part time play, allowing the kids to play and letting him go to a contender. This isn't a shocker, coming from the guy who's willing to trade Biggio for nothing. Maybe you should follow another team or sport.
  7. Looks at AAA and AA depth charts and take your pick #sockpuppets
  8. In my opinion, if you offer $16M you will get one or two decent prospects. That would be the third point in offering money to offload . I am not sure how your JD point fits in. But I think you're saying hope and pray that Martin climbs up past the Mendoza line and then we hope we can find a trade partner? I don't think this FO wants to pin trade value on hopes and prayers. Trump and the GOP do not lead the Jays FO.
  9. I think Todd has a point. If Alford shits the bed in 2019 I don't think he fits into the Jays plans. Too many other outfielders that have a bit of promise. For me, personally, I would much rather trade Pillar and throw Alford in there for the entire season. Take a chance. See what happens.
  10. I wonder if he did. Interesting question.
  11. I think keeping him on a bad team, blocking younger players, and not examining the trade for prospects avenue is shortsighted and the move a bad GM would make.
  12. You're a sensitive little guy aren't you? #momsbasement
  13. You know, it's interesting I was in NYC a few weeks ago when the Jays were in town. My wife left for some shopping, so there I was alone with my Jays gear on. And of course the Jays smash the s*** out of the Yankees. So on the subway home, a group of drunken fans notice my jersey and start talking to me. Anyway, I ended up having a pretty fun, interesting and civil group of Yankee fans for 20 minutes. And no one razzed me for wearing my Donaldson jersey, either. It was pretty neat. I thought they'd be all rude and obnoxious, having hated them as a collective for so long. The main topic, Happ of course.
  14. I agree. I even see a spot on the 2019 roster for him. But I would be more inclined to try and find a home for him with a contender, throw in a lot of cash, and try for a couple decent prospects.
  15. Maybe $180M. $30M for the bat flip.
  16. Oh, man. So, will the Yanks sign Machado now? 80% chance.
  17. No I don't think he's dead weight. No one knows what we'd get back, because we're not wizards, but if you ate a lot of contract you would enhance the chances considerably. It's spent money regardless. I rather spend only a portion of that money and get something in return. But you're a guy who likes the idea of trading Biggio for nothing, so you may not see the sense in bringing back prospects.
  18. I don't think trading Biggio for nothing is a good idea. Maybe in your world.
  19. that seems like an extraordinarily poor use of love.
  20. It seems like a perfect use of funds. Get rid of dead weight, and haul in 1-2 prospects.
  21. Man, I hope so. I would eat $16M and only want 1-2 low level prospects honestly. It'd be good for Martin, too.
  22. I would love to have a $150M Jose Bautista deal at the moment. I think we all do.
  23. I would like the Jays to trade, DFA, demote, whatever the following players: Smoak, Solarte, Pillar, Morales, Barnes, and Martin. I don't care how they do it, although I'd like to get an okay return on Smoak and Pillar. That would free up a f*** ton of roster room. I think if we ate $16M of Martin's salary it's doable. Guys like Pompey can at least maybe get some playing time to see if they rise to the occasion or are a bust. Pillar will only get worse and cost > $6M, and he's redundant at this point. Tulo I expect will start the season on the 60-day. Then, I don't know, DFA too I guess.
  24. Catchers generally make the best managers, don't they. Man, it's clear you need to be a smart guy to be a great catcher. Preparation, matchups, etc. It's like playing chess. I never really regarded Martin as a potential manager, but really, he checks a lot of boxes just given the fact that he has been a really good catcher for so long. And yes, I understand the Martin managing Sunday thing doesn't necessarily mean he is being considered. But I find it really interesting.
  25. I was poking fun at myself mostly. I agree. He has been unreal after a historically bad April. We really stole him in that trade. I hope he has a better start next year. He may be like EE, and be a consistent slow starter.
