The Toronto Blue Jays will send red-hot starter Marco Estrada to the hill on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox.
Estrada (5-3, 3.45 ERA) has taken a no-hitter into the eighth inning during back-to-back starts. On Wednesday against the Rays, Estrada was perfect through seven frames until he allowed an infield single with one out in the eighth. The right-hander is the first Blue Jays pitcher to carry a no-hitter in consecutive starts since Dave Stieb did it in 1988.
The Red Sox will counter with Eduardo Rodriguez. The left-hander will look to bounce back from his start vs. the Orioles on Thursday, when he allowed six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Rodriguez (3-2, 4.33 ERA) is 2-0 with a 0.45 ERA in three road starts.
Three things to know about this game
• On June 14 vs. Toronto at Fenway Park, Rodriguez allowed nine earned runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings in the Blue Jays' 13-5 win.
• Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts extended his hitting streak to six games on Monday. Since May 31, he is batting .339 in the past 28 games.
• Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson continues to swing a hot bat. The 29-year-old leads the American League in extra-base hits at home with 27. Donaldson added to his lead with a double in the sixth inning on Monday night.
